Classic fights I've watched recently

Just watched Duran vs Buchanan again. Was a fantastic bout but...
From a Scotsmans point of view, what a terribly disappointing ending.

Buchanan was well beat but it's controversial none the less.
The first time I watched it was on youtube and it cut out after the decision was announced but I rewatched it on dvd yesterday and heard the commentator interview the referee on the ring apron after the fight and he said it was a punch to the abdomen.

Now firstly it seemed to come after the bell, which makes it an illegal blow, it is thrown as the referee is pulling Duran away to end the round, so he surely should have known to stop punching and, it's obviously very difficult to see where the punch landed from the camera angle, but as he wheels away you see the leg of Kens shorts raised, which indicates he was punched well below the belt.
the referee was over Durans shoulder and must have seen this. Very disappointing

Great fight. The panther-like physicality and ferocity of Duran, and somehow with amazing endurance and massive balls Buchanan keeps trying with his boxing and actually takes a few.of the later rounds, massive display of grace under (extreme) pressure from Buchanan.

It was a controversial ending. I agree with you. But, maybe the fight would've have been forgotten now days if the fight never ended like that. I agree that it was a low blow.

Nonsense. That fight would be remembered however the last few minutes played out.

Arnold Taylor vs Romeo Anaya 1

Was only able to find highlights of this on youtube which was probably the worst quality ive ever seen,even worse than Fitzsimmons/Corbett,plus the commentary kept switching from English to Spanish constantly

Shame coz it looked like a belting fight with plenty KD's,some 1 punch KO from Taylor to turn it round in the 14th after being down several times himself

Couldnt find the rematch

Good lord,i feel like i need a lie down after witnessing this fight,fought a furious pace from the off,both guys came flying out the traps and the tempo never relented,absolute barnstormer of a fight all the way through from start to finish but a special mention to the last 2 rounds which need to be seen to be believed

Good lord,i feel like i need a lie down after witnessing this fight,fought a furious pace from the off,both guys came flying out the traps and the tempo never relented,absolute barnstormer of a fight all the way through from start to finish but a special mention to the last 2 rounds which need to be seen to be believed

I remember this from the time. Those guys must have had sore heads for a month.

Bobby Chacon vs Cornelius Boza-Edwards 1+2

Both epic fights closely contested all the way through with the action to-in and frow-in

1st fight was great,Boza-Edwards was giving Chacon a beating in that 13th round still i was surprised when Bobby never came out for the 14th

2nd fight was even better,4 KD's all in although the 1st one in the opening round that Chacon scored looked a slip from Boza-Edwards,great great fight,i never scored it but i was surprised it was a clean sweep for Chacon,the 117-111 card from Moretti looked particularly wide

The best fights that I have ever seen in my lifetime were Leonard vs Hearns I, and Chacon vs Bazooka Limon IV. Great fights that the 80s brought us.

Leonard vs Hearns 1 is class,i havent seen any of the Chacon/Limon fights,im gonna watch them soon

Chartchai Chionoi vs Efren Torres 1+2(couldnt find the rubber match)

Decent scraps,1st one especially,shame that cuts stopped both fights,Chionoi was dissapointing in the rematch,Torres always looked like getting revenge

Good to hear elmersalsa,im glad you enjoyed it,that was my 1st time seeing it last week,it truly was a wicked fight,i noticed big Enzo Maccarinelli tweeted yesterday he just watched it too

Its a shame the UK/US dont show any of the smaller guys fights,they throw up some superb battles,the UK always show guff cards from Germany when id much rather prefer the little 'uns

I think it looks terrible too. Although I know that's not the way it looked like at the time, a lot of the jerkiness is due to the filming. I think by the 4th bout these guys knew each other inside out and it translated to a dirty, ruff house fight. I like the Langford highlights that are out there, you can see his skill in blocking and slipping punches and coming back with good counters. Film quality is bad but you still get an idea of what the guy could do.

Great story and inspired performance from Braddock,he thouroughly deserved it,Baer was awful,too much fun living since becoming champ by the looks of it

It might be a classic but it wasnt a great spectacle TBH

Yeah, would be on any list of in-fight comebacks, not just from knockdowns but a quite dominant outclassing for the most part IIRC

Just watched this. Fantastic. Has to be one of the best comebacks ever. The Thai down in the 5th and 6th with one eye shut and I swear, if there was 5 more seconds in the 6th round that Lou Fillipo would have stopped that fight. Amazing.

I read before watching this that the rematch was the better fight but i much preferred their 1st encounter,there was a lot more action, the rematch was still competitive but there was more action post fight than during

Mate I feel bad not having recommended them to you before, especially the first its a personal favourite. I love Ayalas work on the inside so.much in that fight, the uppercuts to the body and right hooks and left uppecuts upstairs and the good guard he shows and how tight and tucked up he is, and all those right hooks mmm. I don't know if you're aware right hooking southpaws give me a weird semi? Ha.
