It's fairly typical of how these things are handled. Hardly ideal. It is was it is.sucracristo wrote:again, these reports without the facts piss me off.Redback Rasta wrote: Bayerischer Rundfunk also claim that 33-year-old Teper is under investigation on suspicion of unlawful possession of doping substances such as clenbuterol, testosterone, growth hormone and methandrostenolone
German authorities have yet to officially comment on the revelations.
if you announce the guy is dirty, say the specific thing he took, not a laundry list
of completely different cliche things he could theoretically be guilty of. that makes
the story sound like they have no clue what he tested for, and more often than
not it is some over the counter crap or mj, which nobody really cares about.
why won't the german authorities comment about it if they are already leaking
info to the press, or does this publication have an unethical source at the lab?

The question is do we legalise PEDS? Well that wouldn't work. For obvious reasons. . do we put in place a lengthy or lifetime ban for the cheaters? Possible but with so much money riding on these events anyone 'caught' would more than likely get 'protected'. So what is the answer? A federal injunction in our beautiful sport?
This situation saddens me. I know that drugs doesn't necessarily mean you will become a better fighter but it does give an unfair advantage in training and recovery etc. So it is wholly unfair.
What percentage of fighters are using PED's right now? Anyone hazard a guess?
It's not just athletes and cyclists these days sadly. Look at the shape of your average footballer compared to 20 years ago. Tennis players too - it doesn't take a genius to work out which incredibly high profile ones are using.
The spit and sawdust approach is more prevalent in boxing than in other better financed sports which has probably held back the onset of doping but we'd be naive to think that the honour and decency inherent to boxing aren't cast aside more and more these days to gain an edge that can lead to big bucks.

Let's hope that this doesn't give Price fresh optimism for the future. There's nowhere left for him to go.

Making PED's legal probably isn't best idea but making changes to what is on the banned lists and tolerances needs to happen.
First............. what is or is not banned needs to be universal, it is ridiculous that some substances are fine under one jurisdiction but will get a boxer suspended in the next jurisdiction. That's not an excuse for a failed drug test but the possibility shouldn't exist to begin with.
Second..............supposedly some of the products on these banned lists are there because Big Pharmacy was trying to eliminate some competition, IF this happens to be true then anything that was placed on a banned list that way needs to be removed.
Third...............Therapeutic Use Exemption, get rid of them. All TUE does is enable commissions to play favorites. No commission in the world should have the authority to dismiss a legal prescription. If said commission thinks the doctor and boxer are up to something shady PROVE IT otherwise accept the prescription period.
Fourth.............. a lot of products with banned substances in them can be bought over the counter and as a result of that have tolerances. If you are using said substance for its intended purpose there is just no way the tolerance will be exceeded. Unfortunately not all of the banned products that can purchased legally have tolerances attached to them, if a given substance is on the banned list and can be purchased anywhere in the world legally it should have a tolerance associated with it.
Last but not least.................NO commission in the world should be recognizing these side deal drug tests that are happening. The athletes themselves should be the LAST people choosing drug testing protocols. Boxing is the only sport that actually lets the potential drug cheats choose the drug testing protocols
Close these loopholes so boxing catches people who are ACTUALLY cheating not boxers who thought X product was ok because it is fine in their home jurisdiction, boxers on high blood pressure medication or boxers who happened to select a store bought product that has zero tolerance vs one that has a specified tolerance.
Any talk of a lifetime ban on first offense is just stupid.
There are actually people who make mistakes, get busted then never do it again for fear of getting caught again.
A lifetime ban for using a substance that is legal in some jurisdictions but gets you suspended in others makes no sense either.
Multiple offenses for using a banned substance that has no grey area?
Clearly caught using PED's to cheat multiple times?
Yeah, boxing has no use for this guy.
Hall of Fame ban for one failed drug test also stupid.
99% of fighters have no reasonable chance at HOF induction anyway. HOF ban is an empty threat to them.
If they somehow get a lifetime ban for ANY reason then obviously they should be barred from the HOF.

Re: Erkan Teper Reportedly Fails Drug Test After Price KO
Thanks for your detailed response. Yes it is a government issue, similar to the Muhammad Ali act that was 'enforced' in the late 90's. I agree with your four points - this will help with the clarity of the situation but will it cut down the cheaters or deter them??Perseus wrote:That's more of a government issue than a boxing issue isn't it?evrenb wrote:The use of PED's is becoming more common. Re: Erkan Teper Reportedly Fails Drug Test After Price KO
There are fighters out there knowingly and deliberately trying to cheat using PEDS - Mike Tyson and Tommy Morrison were quite candid in talking about it.
Re: Erkan Teper Reportedly Fails Drug Test After Price KO
I doubt it will deter the cheaters but I think it is important to make certain they are catching the actual cheaters vs boxers falling into these ridiculous loopholes.evrenb wrote:Thanks for your detailed response.
