The race card in boxing today

Post by psychod1986 »

Every time a different type of races talk about boxing, they like to play the race card.Where theres a black man versus a white man or a black man versus another race, the black guy is considered the villian & the white guy is the hero.Boxing shouldn't be based on what race you are, but your ability & skills.

Who the villain is depends upon the character of the boxer.

If a boxer is a woman-beater or a ex-convict braggart, he'll be a villain. If a boxer is a good sportsman and a nice guy who is humble and respectful toward others, most people will like him.

Most people liked Floyd Patterson and were rooting for him against Sonny Liston. It had nothing to do with race.

nonsense, name me 1 time, where the black guy was the villain and the white guy was the good guy?

oscar vs mayweather doesnt count, oscar is hispanic

nevertheless, aside from eastern european boxers, there arent many white boxers. boxing is dominated by black, mexican, latin and asian men. so i dont know where your oppnion comes from, i never heard the good white boxer against the dangerous bad black boxer, never heard that.

I'm an immigrant to America. I grew up in a multi cultural city. I'm in a mixed race relationship & my girlfriends parents are also immigrants to this great country. My friends come from all walks of life.

America has a huge race problem. This is not the fault of ANY American alive today, just the result of 400 years of bad things happening. And it's not just about colour. People call others prejudiced for no reason. It's just how it is. You just have to ignore it & just keep being nice to as many people as you can.

Don't get it twisted I am not a racist, but there is a little racism in the sport of boxing, especially with that guy Jim Lampley he hates Floyd Mayweather gusts and the way HBO treated Guillermo Rigondeaux. Now i agree sometimes the character of boxer counts, and what type of person they are as well.

Max Kellerman and Teddy Atlas have always hated Wladimir Klitschko and other good white boxers. Is that racism?

I agree Guillermo Rigondeaux has been treated unfairly, mainly by Bob Arum. But it had nothing to do with race, it's just that Arum is no longer a capable promoter. Top Rank also ruined the careers of Mikey Garcia, Korobov, Mekhontsev and many other talented boxers, and is in the process of ruining the pro careers of Lomachenko and Gvozdyk.

Yeah right!! When Ali stood against Liston the vast majority of white people hated him because they said "he had a big mouth and they called him the Louisville Lip".

Many racist thinks when a black man has confidence and speak with it that he's arrogant and needs to be humbled because they don't view us as human but when a person who is white does it then he is given a pass as confident (just look at McGregor and Chael Sonnen).

McGregor and Sonnen talked far more trash then Mayweather but they are given a huge pass, not one person hates them the way y'all still speak of Mayweather, case in point here, just read what you wrote above.

Another thing, the white man tends to hold a lifetime grudge and never forgiving black people who have committed crimes even if they don't commit anymore crimes as though they are still a criminal, again, just read what you wrote. Look how they speak of Hopkins, anytime his name is brought up and they are speaking of him the first thing that is brought up is his criminal past, he is a great role model for young people black or white and one who has turned his life around but yet in the eyes of the bigot he is just a criminal.

People who have gone to jail and did their time have paid their debt to society already but bigots and racists never let them live it down.

Racism still exist in boxing because it exist in people in society because they have been taught that way from infancy.

I agree with mr undeafted, every time a black man is on top are is champ and he speaks his mind & how he feels on things, the white media accuse them of being cocky & arrogant, like they can't share there own opinion.Like it's wrong for any black fighter to a have confidence are having pride.

I never said whites are above all races. I just am saying the truth... that whites are the dominant race in boxing and sport in general at the moment. To say the truth isn't racist.
Really, do you care to prove that racial statement??

yup, especially postol being ranked twice at 140 and callum smith twice at 168.

i generally avoid these types of threads. for those who don't know, the purpose of these threads
is to weaponize race, start a rock fight based on race, sling the accusation of racism around
as much as possible so as to gain a political upperhand, and basically treat groups of people
like they are chess pieces on a board to gain some weird racial agitating self empowerment.

Funny how you opted for a top 15 instead of a top 10 or a champions list... and managed to sneak in black fghters such as

Renan St Juste ranked 84th on Boxrec
Marcus Olivera ranked 79th on Boxrec yet you have him 12th
Charles Martin - ranked 42nd on Boxrec
Paulus Moses - ranked 34th on Boxrec
etc
yet somehow managed to miss out

Chagaev (WBA)
Breidis
Gassiev
Oosthuizen
Shabranskky
Steiglitz
Korobov
Heiland
Liam Smith ( WBO)
Mikhaylenko
Algieri
Troyanovsky (IBF)
Zlaticanin
Warrington
etc

Even going off your biased, purposely revised list.... from the ones I know I counted 86 white boxers and 56 Black Boxers

Looks like you just embarassed yourself.

Most people liked Floyd Patterson and were rooting for him against Sonny Liston. It had nothing to do with race.

No race issue in boxing, its one of the few colourblind sports out there.

Black fighters shoudn't be judge on by there troubles out side ring and what they done in the past even with troubles in the past, some of them still show great sportsmanship and are respectful to others.Like Floyd Mayweather after ever fight he fought,he would go to his opponents corner & shake there hand and say great things about them and how much of a great fighter they where and he would compliment them as well. But that don't stop the media, from saying bad things about him.

I don't see Race being much of an Issue in Boxing. This thread and recent comments from one Floyd Mayweather (which I would assume inspired this thread) are more racially motivated than any actions in the Sport itself have been in quite a long while.
