I think Keith has been on the painkillers again if he expects us to believe he's travelling from Darlington for this.

He's obviously been networking a lot in Dubai. Agree I can definitely see him fighting there, he loves a pound note does our David. He's probably sold them on the idea that this is just a bulding fight for future massive heavyweight showdowns, which is great if he actually a) turns up, b) is still any good and c) doesn't get injured again. 3 fairly big ifs.keithmoonhangover wrote:I can't remember their names, but they were the two brothers at the press conference. Haye told them how much he needed for him, the opponent and the undercard and they said yes.reggaereggae wrote:Who are his backers mate?
Either way it sounds like he's taking no risk
I have a feeling Haye will fight in Dubai at some point.

I wish I had a pound note for every time a boxer with a half decent profile was said to be "in talks" to fight in Dubai. I'd have at least 23 quid by now...
This is a weird set-up, as others have said.
I wish Haye had gone to Frank or Eddie.

Dibs pulled out of the undercard. No tv or equivalent announced yet. Can't imagine tickets have sold out. So where exactly is the money going to coming from? The salter bros from what I can see have basically got a few relatively famous people to tweet a picture of themselves with a card saying X days till #hayeday. We are not talking major celebrities though.
I'm sceptical anyone really knows what they are doing here. Such a strange event, timing wise and also the card as a whole. It pains me to say it but he should have slotted himself onto a matchroom card to get back into things and stir up the interest. This path just looks bizarre.

Haye-De Mori: Chief Support Off After Injury To Dib
The preparations for the comeback of former two-weight world champion David Haye are running far from smoothly –– and that has been further proved by the latest setback suffered to the ‘Haye Day’ promotion.
Haye (26-2, 24 KOs), 35, is set to return to the ring after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus in two weeks’ time, on January 16, at London’s O2 Arena against Australia’s Mark De Mori (30-1-2, 26 KOs) over 12 rounds in a non-title showdown. And while the issue isn’t with the main event, the promotion as a whole is on the back foot before it has even started with a lack of broadcaster and now no chief-supporting contest.
Former IBF world featherweight champion Billy Dib (39-4, 23 KOs) had been appointed as second in command to the Haye-De Mori clash and he was scheduled for a non-title 10-round tussle with former English featherweight title challenger Jamie Speight (13-8, 1 KO). But that has now been scratched after Dib, who announced his withdrawal via social media, pulled out, citing injury. “It is with great regret that I announce I’ve been ruled out of my Jan 16th fight due to an injury I suffered during training camp,” the Australian, 30, wrote on his official Twitter account. “[A] big thanks to all the amazing boxing fans in the UK. God willing I’ll be back soon.” And despite the bad news, opponent Jamie Speight put a positive spin on things, also taking to Twitter to say: “I’m sure me and Billy [sic] can get it on again. [David Haye] can make it happen."
The latest complication with the return of ‘Hayemaker’ leaves the card bare and with a lack of any real quality, boasting an undercard featuring ex-British super middleweight ruler Tony Dodson (31-8-1, 15 KOs), as well as Wadi Camacho, Kay Prospere, Jose Lopes and Josh Kennedy.

Disagree personally, i think the card has massively improved in the past 24 hours. While you may be missing a bit more of a 'name', you are essentially swapping a horrible mismatch where the opponent had lost 6 of his last 8 fights, failed at English level last time out and even lost every round to Robbie Turley for a competitive and meaningful bout, one that is really hard to call. I'm sure Singleton-O'Donnell will be considered a much better fight than Dib-Speight to most people who post on here.Redback Rasta wrote:If you are buying anything you are looking for value for money. I agree but Haye seems more into it than most. I would suggest that a man with a lesser ego might have done a bit more of a smaller show for his return, perhaps main undercard fight or main fight in a smaller venue. Take less £££ but shake some rust and build the hype for a future big show. This need for hype and calling it 'Haye Day' and having to make it some sort of world event each time he fights anybody just grates a bit with me - I used to love Haye in his prime but I can't take the man seriously at the moment, he's turned into a caricature of himself.keithmoonhangover wrote:All pro boxers should love money. David Haye: I Want To Make a Statement, Show I'm Back
"A lot of things went into the decision (of the choice of my opponent). He looks impressive athletically, he has a good ranking, a high knockout rate, can dish out it verbally very well, and he is unbeaten in 11 years. That was very important to me. I wanted to fight someone who under no circumstances was already knocked out Wilder or Wladimir Klitschko. I want to deliver a statement and show that I'm back. And I think to start with someone in the top ten of the WBA is not so bad," Haye said.
Not everyone is impressed with Haye's selection. Tyson Fury's uncle and trainer, Peter Fury, thinks very little of De Mori.
Haye says he made his comeback steps based on the outcome of several other failed returns of the past, where fighters came back feeling rusty against an opponent who was too tough to deal with.

To be shown live on "Dave"
Many people are scoffing but that channel gets good viewing figures - Haye's a big name he's known outside of boxing circles - you're x factor saturday night takeaway audience are more likely to tune in to watch him on Dave than sky sports/allegedly.
I actually think this could be a very shrewd move

David Haye has a soft opponent he’s facing in Mark De Mori on January 16th, and he’s now bragging about how he’s going to KO the guy.
I’ve seen some of De Mori’s fights, and he pretty much doesn’t impress me at all. He looks like a part time bodybuilder more so than a fighter, and he’s not exactly the fastest guy in the ring.
De Mori has been fighting 2nd tier fighters for years, and it seems like a failure to launch with the way that he’s babied his career.
De Mori has been fighting for 12 years, and he should have already stepped up by now, don’t you think? If it were me, I would have gotten it over with by now to see if I was any good.
I’d take on a top talent to see where I stood as a fighter rather than fighting guys like Macel Zeller, Radenko Kovav, Zelko Bojic and Marino Goles. Sadly, those are De Mori’s last four opponents.
“I’m excited too and I’m sure everyone at the O2 arena are going to be thrilled by us really going at it,” Haye said. “I know you’re the Dominator and you really want to dominate me but unfortunately, I’m going to rip out the Haymaker and get you down for the count.”
Oh brother, Haye is really making a big production about De Mori’s padded record. Come on, man. The only reason De Mori has a mess of KO wins on his resume is because he’s been fighting fodder opponents. That’s the way I see it.

De Mori seems to me to be what American's would class as a 'club fighter'. At least it's on Dave and it's free, it would have been bad to expect people to pay extra for this crap card, even if it was £2.50 on Youtube or whatever. Free, mostly crap boxing, is better than £2.50 streamed, mostly crap boxing.
