Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz

Post by Aaronide_ger »

What do you think of this matchup? Ortiz is the superior boxer and is bigger than Wilder, we just saw what he can do against athletic guys like Jennings, I have Ortiz by KO shattering that glass jaw.

Ortiz looks better all round to me. If it happens in the next 18 months, I'd pick Ortiz over the cruder (by comparison to Ortiz) Wilder.

Though at 36, Ortiz time is not his friend. If it's left too long, then I could well change my mind.

tough tough one, very close, but could go either way. technicly ortiz outboxes wilder, power wise, close to equal. wilder at the end has his 1+2 and his height.

if i had to take one, than ortiz. if wilder goes in war modus, he will have somebody as strong and as hard of a puncher as him and could run into an nightmare. or the technicle sound ortiz outboxes him, but everything can end at any time with one bang.

Wolder by KO

Post by bigman1968 »

Ortis looked good again small guy, which came into his left by himself.

Against taller Wilder, with much better punch...old and fat Ortiz has no chance.

This would be the bigger matchup and would take longer than Pacquiao vs Mayweather negotiations.

I fancy Wilder to win this by KO.

His opposition hasn't been the best I've been impressed.
It would be a great shootout though whilst it lasts.
Both great boxers aswell if it's kept at range but I could see it turning to a war early.

Don't see the fight happening though due to the rival promotional ties.

Ortiz has so much more polish than Wilder; he'd find the opening before the 5th round and Wilder would be layed out.

I think Ortiz would win, I even think Jennings would win against Wilder.

Ortiz is bigger in mass, but not in height. And this is where I see Wilder having success. Wilder's jab is massively underrated. It's the best jab in the division. I can see him keeping Ortiz at bay with his jab and landing with enough power to keep Ortiz honest. I'm taking Wilder by UD.

Against cab drivers its good, Wilder will never outbox Ortiz, NO WAY he outlands him on the outside, taller or not.

Ortiz has a longer reach than Wilder. Atleast according to boxrec. Ortiz's reach is 84" ... Wilder's 83".

Height and reach play a factor in a longer jab. I'd be surprised if Ortiz can get his jab landing before Wilder.

True. Saying that though, it's harder to get a good jab going against a southpaw.

If it was happening within 6 months I would take Ortiz. After that I withhold judgement based on each boxer's evolution.

It will not be happening within six months, IMO.

Wilder is improving. If he continues to win v contender level competition he may well be too much for Ortiz a year or more from now.

Nobody does, name me three good boxers Stiverne has ever won against in his entire pro carreer? Stiverne is a joke mate.

Could easily be incorrect. Reach is usually the hardest boxing stat to obtain.

IMO Wilder fights a very cautious fight and moves a lot to win a decision, though not as lopsided as his win over Stiverne.

IMO Ortiz is overrated. Jennings is really the only quality win on Ortiz's otherwise lackluster resume'.
I think Ortiz knocks Wilder out brutally if it ever happened.
