Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
Mark De Mori has arrived a full 2 weeks before the fight and will base himself in London in the lead-up. Haye welcomed him on Twitter.

The looks on their faces suggest they are going to a funeral.

This is "David vs Goliath" here. De Mori must have some masterful management to have done as well as he has with rankings. Respect to the man anyway for having a crack. Depending what shape Haye is in... I don't expect it to go past 4 rounds.

Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
Someone suggested elsewhere that DeMori reached his goal by simply fighting low level journeyman until his big pay day arrived, and I think that just about sums it up.Lairdy wrote:This is "David vs Goliath" here. But de Mori could hardly be worse prepared having never graduated the level of his opponents and not tested himself along the way.
It's a formula that usually ends in disaster.

Haye has been 3 years out I sniff an upset. DeMori KO 3.

You did predict that the fight would be made before anyone on here, de Mori by KO would pay some decent cash.DA GOOSE wrote:Haye has been 3 years out I sniff an upset. DeMori KO 3.

Three and a half years is along time out of it. But unless Haye has seized with ring-rust he will taunt de Mori for a few rounds, before horizontalizing him.
Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
What I'm getting at, is how De Mori can spend his career fighting guys with an average aggregate of 13 wins, 8 losses... Yet, somehow be rated #10 by the WBA... Thus being an obvious choice for Haye if he wants to win in a comeback fight against a "ranked" opponent.Redback Rasta wrote:Someone suggested elsewhere that DeMori reached his goal by simply fighting low level journeyman until his big pay day arrived, and I think that just about sums it up.Lairdy wrote:This is "David vs Goliath" here. Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
Ordinary card just got even more ordinary with the withdrawal of Dib >>>
Haye-De Mori: Chief Support Off After Injury To Dib
The preparations for the comeback of former two-weight world champion David Haye are running far from smoothly –– and that has been further proved by the latest setback suffered to the ‘Haye Day’ promotion.
Haye (26-2, 24 KOs), 35, is set to return to the ring after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus in two weeks’ time, on January 16, at London’s O2 Arena against Australia’s Mark De Mori (30-1-2, 26 KOs) over 12 rounds in a non-title showdown. And while the issue isn’t with the main event, the promotion as a whole is on the back foot before it has even started with a lack of broadcaster and now no chief-supporting contest.
Former IBF world featherweight champion Billy Dib (39-4, 23 KOs) had been appointed as second in command to the Haye-De Mori clash and he was scheduled for a non-title 10-round tussle with former English featherweight title challenger Jamie Speight (13-8, 1 KO). But that has now been scratched after Dib, who announced his withdrawal via social media, pulled out, citing injury. “It is with great regret that I announce I’ve been ruled out of my Jan 16th fight due to an injury I suffered during training camp,” the Australian, 30, wrote on his official Twitter account. “[A] big thanks to all the amazing boxing fans in the UK. God willing I’ll be back soon.” And despite the bad news, opponent Jamie Speight put a positive spin on things, also taking to Twitter to say: “I’m sure me and Billy [sic] can get it on again. [David Haye] can make it happen."
The latest complication with the return of ‘Hayemaker’ leaves the card bare and with a lack of any real quality, boasting an undercard featuring ex-British super middleweight ruler Tony Dodson (31-8-1, 15 KOs), as well as Wadi Camacho, Kay Prospere, Jose Lopes and Josh Kennedy.

Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
With those 11 fights, our man de Mori has been inside the ring for only 43 rounds out of a scheduled 102 rounds, against some quite dubious opposition and in some non-descipt venues.
More of a case of de Mori hiding his light under a bushel. But now against Haye and against type, he is entering into the light!

Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
de Mori and his handful of deluded fans will at last find out how far he is off the pace amongst any of the world's
better Heavies.
Haye won't set the world on fire this time around but he will end de Mori's little charade of trying
to mix it with the big boys.
Haye will jab de Mori's head off and end it inside 3 rounds.

David Haye: I Want To Make a Statement, Show I'm Back
"A lot of things went into the decision (of the choice of my opponent). He looks impressive athletically, he has a good ranking, a high knockout rate, can dish out it verbally very well, and he is unbeaten in 11 years. That was very important to me. I wanted to fight someone who under no circumstances was already knocked out Wilder or Wladimir Klitschko. I want to deliver a statement and show that I'm back. And I think to start with someone in the top ten of the WBA is not so bad," Haye said.
Not everyone is impressed with Haye's selection. Tyson Fury's uncle and trainer, Peter Fury, thinks very little of De Mori.
Haye says he made his comeback steps based on the outcome of several other failed returns of the past, where fighters came back feeling rusty against an opponent who was too tough to deal with.

Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
T minus 10 days.
Haye is going to wish he'd picked someone I little more ready to 'go away' I think.
And as far as those Gypsies having an opinion on Mark. Seriously? Pretty sure I met them in Paris before they boxed, pretending they found a gold ring on the ground and trying to sell it to me for 10 Euro.

Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
de Mori has gone from telling Haye he was "much hungrier" and how he was prepared to "die in the ring", to statements like "maybe I will retire after the fight, goal achieved and money in the bank," and "I don't really enjoy boxing any more. There are days now when I arrive and stare at the punching bag with disgust. But I have to finish what I started."
Sound very much the thoughts of someone about to cash out of the sport. Motivation already significantly diminished.

Those statements don't contradict each other.

Re: David Haye vs Mark de Mori - January 16th
Knowing it might be your last hand in poker. You going to go all in or ride the fence?
I'm well aware Haye is possibly the worst matchup for Mark of probably anyone in the HW division.
But there also aren't many bigger names in boxing worldwide and getting him off a 3.5 year lay off is things dreams are made of.
No better time for Mark to cement himself in Aussie boxing history.
Mid rounds stoppage for Mark.

David Haye has a soft opponent he’s facing in Mark De Mori on January 16th, and he’s now bragging about how he’s going to KO the guy.
I’ve seen some of De Mori’s fights, and he pretty much doesn’t impress me at all. He looks like a part time bodybuilder more so than a fighter, and he’s not exactly the fastest guy in the ring.
De Mori has been fighting 2nd tier fighters for years, and it seems like a failure to launch with the way that he’s babied his career.
De Mori has been fighting for 12 years, and he should have already stepped up by now, don’t you think? If it were me, I would have gotten it over with by now to see if I was any good.
I’d take on a top talent to see where I stood as a fighter rather than fighting guys like Macel Zeller, Radenko Kovav, Zelko Bojic and Marino Goles. Sadly, those are De Mori’s last four opponents.
“I’m excited too and I’m sure everyone at the O2 arena are going to be thrilled by us really going at it,” Haye said. “I know you’re the Dominator and you really want to dominate me but unfortunately, I’m going to rip out the Haymaker and get you down for the count.”
Oh brother, Haye is really making a big production about De Mori’s padded record. Come on, man. The only reason De Mori has a mess of KO wins on his resume is because he’s been fighting fodder opponents. That’s the way I see it.

It saddens me to see fighters pad their records with poor level opposition in the hope they will somehow, someday land a big fight.
