Golovkin fight set for April 23 at Madison Square Garden, says K2 Promotions

Post by Redback Rasta »

K2 Promotions MD Tom Loeffler has reserved Madison Square Garden for April 23 for Gennady Golovkin’s possible next bout.

Golovkin has yet to confirm his opponent for his voluntary title defence before heading to the megafight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September.

Wow. That is more than 6-month break. He didn't even rest that long when his father died.

Golovkin should be fighting more often. Fighters often decline due to inactivity, especially in their mid-30s.

Any boxer who has a contract with HBO ends up fighting no more than twice a year.

Kovalev fought four times in 2013, but just three times in 2014 and just twice in 2015.

Just think they are really struggling to find credible opponents for GGG.
Looking like its going to be Tureano Johnson to get rid of the mandatory. Another short nights work for GGG. Hopefully Gonzalez is on the undercard again against a live opponent.

could be trying to set up another ppv there like they did with lemieux to lure in saunders.
if they did this a month earlier in march they could maybe do a saunders fight and then
in june the johnson fiasco and then have plenty of time to get ready for canelo in sept

Yep. I suspect they can't get an appropriate venue in March.
