What happens if Wilder fights Fury and manages to blast him out? I tell you want happens, we will see threads like 'Wilder v Tyson/Ali/Louis/Holmes' with the odd poster convinced Wilder would have been 'too quick' for Ali....

Fury is a top lad but some pople live for the hyperbole. Let's revisit this in 6/7 years if Fury is still champ and has cleared everyone out. Then perhaps we can have a proper discussion about it

What next? Henry Wharton v Roy Jones Jnr....prime for prime, who wins? ;-)
I sh!t you not, there's a thread on CS where some posters have stated Fury would beat Ali. The world has gone mad.
I think Lily's 'some people live for the hyperbole' sums it up perfectly.

Gary Mason was so intelligent and eloquent. Such a shame he wasn't brought back as a pundit - he would be a far superior host to the babbling shill that is Johnny Nelson.

I think he boxed his final fight in 95. Bashed a guy with a name like Martin Gonzalez out in the desert, looked menacing doing it.

Ok.... This is going to sound somewhat controversial, but Fury would definitely give Ali a very tough fight. His size, movement and reach would cause plenty of problems.

Let's remember Ali went the distance with some rubbish fighters, and he never fought anyone as big. Foreman was only 220 lbs and considered a monster at the time. Look at today's heavyweights.

Ali went the distance with Alfredo Evangelista, Rudi Lubbers (196 lbs) for christs sake! 15 rounds with Wepner who looks like he was a bar brawler and never stepped in a ring.

Henry cooper at 13 stone almost knocked him out and a 180 pound Bob Foster lasted 8 rounds.

Anyone who thinks Fury would not give Ali fits is drunk with nostalgia. Not saying he'd win, and we'll never know... But in every sport athletes are bigger, taller, faster, better. Why is boxing any different?

Who cares about big. Everyone is obsessed with big (that's what she said). The discrepancy in skill is night and day here. It negates big. Easily. Ali would have teed off at will on Fury, dropped him multiple times, embarrassed him. Would have been over before 6.

I feel like Lennox/Wlad is more of a BrickFuck™?

Lennox/Fury is a much clearer cut HammerFuck™ in my book.

This is such a facile analysis, and it always, always crops up among the record skimmers.

David Haye was knocked down heavily by a 183lb Lolenga Mock. Mock was a blown up super-middle. He was down versus Carl Thompson and Mormeck too, a pair of cruiserweights. Haye went 12 rounds with - horror of horrors! - the paltry 198lb Ismail Abdoul!!

And yet, in spite of all that, the gargantuan Wladimir Klitschko not only failed to knock David Haye down, he never even hurt him. And both times David Haye was heavily favoured to knock the even bigger Tyson Fury out.

Dissecting the heavyweights, particularly the great and the enigmatic ones, is subject to a thousand more complexities than the dull weights and stats of the sterile Boxrec record, and, worst of all, the utterly cretinous 'who's bigger' question.

Lennox was a diverse fighter, even if he lost the chess match against Fury i think he would be intelligent enough in the ring to adapt and change the fight in his favour.

Wlad's jab is undoubtedly top notch, but LL's was better, as was his punch variety and his willingness to .... you know .... trade punches?

Could today's Fury have beaten that Vitali by any means? LL was behind on the cards but he still found a way to get through it...satisfactory or not. I can't envisage a scenario whereby Fury would win that match up against Vitali.

Yes, this topic has been done to death elsewhere. If bigger meant better, than Joe Louis would not have been top dog in an era with the likes of Carnera and Buddy Baer around. Marciano either, he was nowhere near the biggest of his era, nor even the most skilled, but his toughness, incredible stamina, and power was enough to overcome those obstacles, and he routinely beat bigger men than himself.

There is a trade off between size and speed, especially at heavyweight. Ali was so successful not because he was bigger (he was among the bigger men of his era, but not the biggest) but because of his speed. In his prime he literally danced rings about people and punched them silly, in his latter days, his infighting, wrestling ability, still very impressive handspeed, guts, resilience, and ring smarts.

Ali would have possibly struggled with the reach of Fury, and size, but he was as smart a fighter as they come, and he would have made Fury look like a gnu on roller skates in terms of footwork.

Boxing is not athletics. In running, you are talking about a very simple sport, there's only so much you can do to improve running, which is something that every human can do from a very young age, it comes down to training, nutrition, and equipment.

Fighting is so much more complex, that simple size and supposed 'genetic improvements' as previously expounded, are not going to be a factor so much as all of the many other factors involved.

I'm pretty sure if you took someone like Jack Dempsey, gave him some of the benefits of modern training methods and diet, he'd probably have been a lot like Tyson was, and he'd have hammered the shit out of many of the lumbering apeths in modern heavyweight boxing.

Do we think Fury would have beaten Mike Tyson in his prime - please god say it isn't so.

Yep. A 180lb Dempsey met a 6'6'' 250lb goliath in Jess Willard - and had him down 7 times in the first round. David Haye couldn't hurt a 198lb Ismael Abdoul even slightly - but he certainly whisked a 330lb Nikolay Valuev's equilibrium. 5 times Joe Louis boxed men in the 6'6'', 260lb dimension - and all 5 times he won inside the distance. And yet - he had his hands full with more than one wispy little dancer. Holyfield couldn't put bloated middleweight Czyz on the mat - and that fight was sandwiched by brutes like Mercer, Bowe and Tyson all hitting the floor. Nothing I have related makes sense if we are playing the stats game.

With the ring acumen Ali could employ, and the depths of willpower he was able to plumb, it is nonsensical to point to half arsed fights he engaged in, like Lubbers, as evidence that Fury - a man so oafish he once contrived to hit himself in the face - would trouble him. So Henry Cooper put Ali on the floor as a boy? Cooper's hook came from the heels. Fury's blows come from his big gangly arms. Probably why he never scores any devastating knock outs or knock downs. A giant doth not make a hitter, anymore than it makes a Pep-style ring wizard.

A prime shape Lennox lewis vs Tyson fury.

Lenox lewis wins by KO before the 8th round, quicker than it took Lewis to put down the man Fury is named for

Lennox is very overrated. Behind to Vitali ON ALL CARDS before cut stoppage, knocked out by Rahman who was leagues below the Klitschko's.

Memory plays tricks.

Fury points, comfortable.
Then knocks out the next big thing in michael grant in the 2nd round, demolishes the guy who gave riddick bowe kittens for two fights before being DQ. Regarding vitali a fights is 12 rounds not 7 or 8,how many times has james toney been behind and in the 11th/12th he knocks them out? Lewis isnt over rated he beat every guy he fought what more can u ask of him?

Mike tyson vs buster douglas? Wlad vs corrie sanders? When you are in the ring with heavyweights big punches get thrown and if they connect it could knock you out. Lewis got his revenge on both and established himself as the best of the late 90's early 00's

The same Sanders whose victory over Wlad is used to criticise Wlad despite Sanders being a much bigger ko artist than McCall or Rahman?

If anything Lewis should receive much more praise for having so much success over ten years at world level without the safety net of a granite jaw to bail him out when his defences were breached.

The same mcCall dropped tyson in sparring when tyson was invincible. Like i say heavyweight boxing brings big punches if you get hit right your getting knocked down or even out, lewis got dropped and was out of it against rahman but id say lewis k.o of rahman was more convincing. Now imagine ut was lewis standing opposite fury when fury fought cunningham, lewis wouldnt of let fury off the hook when he got knocked down :box:

Id still say Sanders hits much harder than McCall. I doubt Fury would fight Lennox like he did Cunningham, either. PS I'm not picking Fury over Lennox, I'll judge that at the end of Tyson's career.
