Of those I think I'd go for Eubank vs Watson I, but is it too close in time to the Calzaghe vs Reid fight? Does that matter?

Is it better to jump about in time? Or better to have theme months/fortnights etc where we stick to a certain time period/fighter? Or are both about the same?

Obviously a lot of other suggestions have been made, and we can also choose any of those for the next fight or from any new recommendations as well, but these are the suggestions since week 1's fight was decided.

I reckon a theme might work personally, ie an era for a month or a weight division for a month etc

For me, any of those except the Duran vs Buchanan fight.
It was me that suggested that one at the start of the thread, but I only just watched it a couple weeks back.
Just read an article about the Bugner vs Cooper fight, seems there was a bit of a fall out over it, bit of back story to the fight.
Gives us something other than just the decision to discuss.

On reflection I think I would prefer to have chosen Benny Lynch vs Peter Kane. The best flyweight fight ever according to many historians.

Ah, this is where it gets interesting. Looking at flyweights in the 20s, 30s and 40s we had a number of top drawer fighters, who rank very highly on Boxrecs rankings (and no doubt in the annals of boxing history in general). Jackie Patterson, Benny Lynch, Peter Kane, Jackie Brown, Jimmy Wilde, Rinty Monaghan, Terry Allen, Ginger Foran, Jimmy Warnock, Teddy Gardner, Tiny Bostock, Tut Whalley, Paddy Ryan the list goes on and on, with numerous top fighters who fought at flyweight, whose careers over lapped in that period and many fights ocured between them. It's something I've wanted to delve into for some time
What is not so numerous is the video footage, certainly of full fights from that era.

I wondered if we could have one or two weeks where we maybe focused on certain fighters, watched what footage we could, short fight clips, documentaries and whatever could be gathered in terms of newspaper reports to gain an insight into these fighters.

I think that sort of thing is an idea for the future.

I think it is best to keep things simple to begin with.

To be fair, it doesn't need to be part of this, we have enough full fights on Youtube that we can run this every week for a year and still not get through everything we'd like to see.

I might do that as a side project at some point, as I say, if we can't see a full fight and analyse the scoring etc, it doesn't quite fit in here.

That would be a good fight, but I think it is a bit too recent, at least to begin with.

That fight was in 2005, so it was over 10 years ago now though.

Was just looking through Steve Robinson fights and the Duke fight was one I'd considered suggesting

The only fights I remember Robinson in were the Naseem and Harrison fights but those were a bit one sided.
Not too familiar with his other fights to say what would or wouldn't be worth watching

The problem is that the early fights don't have much footage so if we just look at a single match up then we are ruling out a lot of 'historical ' fighters. I agree with earlier comments regarding maybe watching 3-4 clips of some earlier fights that only have minimal footage just to get a general overview of some of the greats.

A lot of fights suggested tend to be in my lifetime (post 80's) and if this is to be a historical education then surely we have to go back a bit further at some point.
