Chisora TKO second round. The rate he's going through fights at the moment, it's not unbelievable that he could fight in April against AJ.SMALL AXE1 wrote:CHISORA IS FIGHTING TOMORROW IN GERMANY.

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
for me I'd say Christian Hammer, #2 in Germany and former WBO European champion, a good opponent who would give AJ an example of European level before fighting for the EBU belt

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
If that's the Case it has to be Chisora. He just comes across as the bad guy and plays the part well like he did against Haye and Vitali, he comes across as disrespectful and just a nasty personality it'd a complete contrast of character to AJ and really get the public behind the fight. Add in a british and commonwealth defence and I cant see a bad thing about that main eventwesshaw1985 wrote:its got to be a native English speaker.

Sam Sexton calling for the fight in Boxing News I belieev.
This wouldn't surprise me but no way could they make that PPV.

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
Joshua is now 5th in the IBF rankings, the 2nd spot is still vacant and with Glazkov/Martin rated 1 and 3 and both fighting for the vacant crown this Saturday, that would according to there ratings leave Teper who they have at 4 the only one above Joshua. Teper will surely get pulled with all the drug stuff going on so If Joshua could consolidate that ranking with someone from the IBF top 10 he might force his way upto Mandatory for the winner of this one. If thats the case Cunningham and Stiverne are both rated top 10 by the IBF.
I would not be at all surprised to see either of those two brought over to face Joshua.

Joshua hardly looked fleet of foot against Whyte.Rob3_142 wrote:It seems to me that Hearn has made it quite clear they'll go for a European fight before a British defence, and that can surely only mean Helenius?
I watched Helenius beat a very average Franz Rill on points. I can't genuinely see Helenius beating AJ, I feel Joshua moves well enough to stay out of trouble. Although solid and decent range, Helenius is quite slow and sluggish. Helenius needed points to beat Chisora and Sprott, which just doesn't say trouble to me.
But if Hearn thinks AJ will be world champion by end of 2016, he'll need to really up the level of his opposition in the summer. I honestly think Joshua vs. Ortiz would be a great fight.
By the way, what was the reason that the BDB disqualified Teper from holding the European title?

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
That's a crap fight though. Chisora has looked washed up to me for a couple of years. His punch resistance doesnt look the same and he's not exactly hard to hit. I actually think Whyte would beat him now.northern wrote:If that's the Case it has to be Chisora. Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
If he has beaten Chisora, Helenius and Haye why in the world would he bother with a Whyte fight? Surely he would be fighting Fury/Wilder/Povetkin if that was the case.wesshaw1985 wrote:I'm suprised Hearn is holding AJ back until April. He's got all the potential (in the current heavyweight division) too be a long term world level operator and thus a huge earner for all involved. When he fights for a world title his interested backers will want to be confident in him beating the likes of Fury, Wilder, Parker, Povetkin, Pulev, Ortiz etc.
I'd personally look at a run of something like - Chisora, Helenius, Ustinov, Cunningham.
Chisora is a name, will have the best pedigree of oppo to date and is realistically the only defence for his British. Then go for the European against a tall, unbeaten champion with reasonable power, defend against a tall, physically bigger (fatter!) guy whose only loss was at a good level and then take on an experienced, clever boxer.
Over this period I'd see guys like Scott, Takam, Thompson, Perez, Browne, Szpilka being acceptable as well.
I see Chisora in April at the O2.
Then Helenius in June at Vicarage Road.
Then onto Haye in August at Wembley.
Finishing off the year with a rematch with Whyte back at the O2. Provided Whyte returns in time and knocks over a couple of opponents in the process.
All fights will be on PPV...

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
Cunningham is the stand-out choice for me. He's quick and quite hard to hit which would be a good warm-up for the Haye fight in the summer, but he doesn't have much KO power so it's not a huge risk. Plus, as you say, it would make him a very strong contender for the IBF Title.GlobalBox wrote:Joshua is now 5th in the IBF rankings, the 2nd spot is still vacant and with Glazkov/Martin rated 1 and 3 and both fighting for the vacant crown this Saturday, that would according to there ratings leave Teper who they have at 4 the only one above Joshua. I could see the winner of Martin/Glazkov fighting a voluntary in the late spring/summer then a mandatory at the end of the year. Meanwhile, Joshua could go Cunningham (April), Haye (July/August), Martin/Glazkov (Nov).
I agree with boxingya about Chisora - that fight doesn't interest me in the slightest and I think Joshua would find him easier to deal with than Whyte.
Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
If this is more about money than boxing and the Whyte fight figures are true, why not send a contract to Shannon Briggs?
Yes, he is past his best but he can still punch and can take AJ a few rounds. His whole 'Let's Go Champ' will attract casual fans. He will be vocal during press conferences which will help PPV.

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
I think the board would be morally sinking to new lows if they sanctioned that. Briggs could get killed by Joshua at this point in time. He'd take a hell of a beating for sure and he took a vicious one off of Vitali like 5 years ago.UrbanFox wrote:If this is more about money than boxing and the Whyte fight figures are true, why not send a contract to Shannon Briggs?

Dillian Whyte has just had shoulder surgery and is expected to be back May/June, so Del Boy could definitely be on for a summer fisty cuffs!

Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
Thats the hard thing about matching him right now though, I can't see many people giving him much trouble as far as British boxers go after Whyte and Cornish have already been put away for now.lefty wrote:one or two round knock over job.northern wrote:for me I'd say Christian Hammer, #2 in Germany and former WBO European champion, a good opponent who would give AJ an example of European level before fighting for the EBU belt
Hammer gives him a stepping stone into Europe at least though and sets him on the right path to a European title match.
Re: Next For Anthony Joshua?
Hammer got knocked out cold by Mariusz Wach in 6 rounds some years before getting utterly dominated and then stopped by Fury who's not that big of a puncher in 8 rounds. Someone like Wach for me would be a fitting opponent. Went 12 with Klitschko, got stopped in the 12th by Povetkin but that was on a cut and shouldnt have been stopped really. He would give Joshua a good workout you'd imagine without too much of a threat if Joshua is as good as people think he is.northern wrote:Thats the hard thing about matching him right now though, I can't see many people giving him much trouble as far as British boxers go after Whyte and Cornish have already been put away for now.lefty wrote:one or two round knock over job.northern wrote:for me I'd say Christian Hammer, #2 in Germany and former WBO European champion, a good opponent who would give AJ an example of European level before fighting for the EBU belt

In regards to the title question- his next HGH shot I imagine.
