Afiff Djelti
Wanted to buy his book but it's only in French, was a big fan of his back in the day, would just like to hear other boxing posters thoughts on this fighter and any interesting facts about him, as from the little information I have read he seems to have had a very strange and interesting boxing career. Thanks

Affif Djelti oldest first time European and world champion
Don't think many people know that the underrated afiff was the oldest fighter to win a European for the first time and version of a world title for the first time at Age 41+
Re: Affif Djelti oldest first time European and world champion
Lots of people know Mickey we had a lengthy thread about him not too long ago.
Contact him on fb,although his English isn't up to much,he's a friendly gentlemanly sort who always replies

Afiff Djelti was very underrated and seems to be forgotten
I think Affif boxing story is incredible, to turn pro with no amateur background at age 31 and then lose your first four fights by stoppage then to turn it all around and find your form and prime yeas age 41 and become European champion and then ibo world champion is a pretty amazing thing to do, yet I never hear no mention of him by fans, magazines or journalist. I have read up as much as I can on him but there isn't much out there and not many of his fights are available

Yes he done very well considering his age and lack of amateur experience. I don't think he beat anyone world class but he beat some good fighters. Not a bad career and he was a tough cookie.
There's a book about him if you can read French. I'm not sure if there is an English version

Re: Affif Djelti oldest first time European and world champion
Winning the European title is a great achievement, but he wasn't a world champion. The IBO title is not a world title, it's completely meaningless, I could start my own sanctioning body, make the belt out of cardboard with a stanley knife and it would be worth the same - nothing.

How do you think he would of matched up against Michael Gomez, Alex Arthur and Michael Brodie?mugabi wrote:He had incredible reflexes and speed for a 43 year old in the lighter weights 13 years ago.of course since than its become far more common to see fighters do well well into their forties.contact him on fb he's a very polite friendly guy but doesn't speak much english

Those are v interesting matches.Gomez would have tried to rough him up and that would have played into affifs hands.Brodie was too young and would win on points.Arthur I think would lose
Re: Affif Djelti
A fitness fanatic with razor sharp reflexes and good speed.
He bashed around a,whole generation of overhyped british level.fighters who were being sold as world level in early 2000s.
That was an unprecedented horrible little era in british boxing ,the fpank wabben sky 2000-2002 era where every saturday night u were fed shhit .none of the light middles fed to us as world class would fight

The atmosphere would have been wild but I think Affif liked that....being in the other mans living room.
Most would probably go for Gomez. But I think his recklessness would have cost him
