Wilder/Szpilka and Glazkov/Martin
World HW title double header on Sky this weekend, some people rate Szpilka but ive never been bowled over whenever ive seen him,Jennings stopped him in his only defeat though i never seen that fight,he might tag Wilder to strike gold but cant see it,though it might go to the cards for Deontay to win a wide UD but a KO win for Wilder is the likely outcome
Glazkov vs Martin for Fury's stripped IBF strap,is gonna be interesting as the winner is gonna have Joshua,Haye etc on their tail as an easy way to win a world title, neither guy is gonna be champ for long whoever wins,Glazkov was very lucky to get the win over Cunningham,Martin KO'd Dallas in a round last year, his record suggests he can bang but apart from wins over Zumbano Love and Manswell he has nothing there to suggest he's anything special
Looks as if the winners of both fights will have a unification next meaning Povetkin will be left out in the cold for a little longer

Isn't that his own fault?handsofstone wrote:Looks as if the winners of both fights will have a unification next meaning Povetkin will be left out in the cold for a little longer

Im not sure Horse,i dont know all the specifics,do you mean because Alexander chose to allow Wilder to have another voluntary therefore allowing the potential unification??Horse wrote:Isn't that his own fault?handsofstone wrote:Looks as if the winners of both fights will have a unification next meaning Povetkin will be left out in the cold for a little longer

He seems to want to delay the fight as well, like he did with Wlad years ago.

Come on, Bax Notion, you should be winning the rights to fights like this. Sky are just casually throwing on the odd international fight night. They're on your patch, Fwank!
Re: Wilder/Szpilka and Glazkov/Martin
There a lot of comments on here about how terrible Sky is, a lot of it deserved as clearly there focus is far from boxing usually unless its a PPV. But then Sky are showing this & allegedly is just showing classic fights in the same timeframe.surfthehurf wrote:Come on, Bax Notion, you should be winning the rights to fights like this. Before people start I know BN has some cracking fights coming up in the weeks following, just surprised they don't have this as well.

If Martin beats Glazkov i reckon wilder will drop the WBC strap and fight Martin for the IBF.

Unifications take precedent over Mandatories so im sure Wilder would be allowed to fight the IBF champ without vacating??lefty wrote:If Martin beats Glazkov i reckon wilder will drop the WBC strap and fight Martin for the IBF.
Good to see you back lefty, its been a while, how you keeping, all good i hope

Sky will always take whatever they want, ahead of BN.moogie101 wrote:

Sky have Fury - Fury/Wilder is a potential showdown for them to build, hence they picked up the Wilder fight.

Re: Wilder/Szpilka and Glazkov/Martin
And Sky picked it up because it cost next to nothing, as poor a double bill of so-called heavyweight world title fights as you'll ever see surely?
Still I'll watch it tomorrow to see if China chin DW comes unstuck, unlikely as that is with their ultra careful matching...and who's this other heavyweight Martin, any good ?

I hope he's not going to grope Wilder post-fight. That could be very unbecoming.handsofstone wrote:Horse wrote:Yes.handsofstone wrote:Im not sure Horse,i dont know all the specifics,do you mean because Alexander chose to allow Wilder to have another voluntary therefore allowing the potential unification??

Szpilka looks like Gavin Rees's head grafted onto heavyweight.

Nice to see a proper, old-school ugly heavyweight.
The boy will make a killing if the Hammer House of Horror studio ever comes back.

Ah so glazkov on wilder undercard ? Thanks mate
Re: Wilder/Szpilka and Glazkov/Martin
I like unproven Martin over the perenially lackluster Glazkov (can't imagine Czar getting a housefighter decision tonight) and Wilder over the guy who was outclassed and stopped by Jennings.

Re: Wilder/Szpilka and Glazkov/Martin
I felt sorry on Glazkov that knee injury looked horrendous,i read that he tore his cruciate,i dont know if its confirmed though,Martin looked like he had to to gee himself up to celebrate,he knew in is heart of hearts that victory was hollow despite what he says,it was hard to watch in the close up replay though
Wilder/Szpilka was a fun fight i thought,i had Deontay a round up at the time of the KO,which was a beauty, felt sorry on Artur he really made a fist of it and came to win the title, the worries about Wilder remain though, obviuosly that power is a great equaliser but defensively he goes to pot whenever anyone throws punches at him,his height helps him avoid a lot of shots but he loses his shape altogether whenever someone throws at him,it makes glancing shots look troublesome

His lack of balance is worrying at times.handsofstone wrote:I felt sorry on Glazkov that knee injury looked horrendous,i read that he tore his cruciate,i dont know if its confirmed though,Martin looked like he had to to gee himself up to celebrate,he knew in is heart of hearts that victory was hollow despite what he says,it was hard to watch in the close up replay though

He used his height well and did well to stay out of distance and managed to catch a lot of arturs cuffing shots on the gloves. But his lack of balance made the shots look a lot better than they really were.
Re: Wilder/Szpilka and Glazkov/Martin
Why didn't Wilder vs Martin happen? 2 undefeated American world heavyweight champions, both good at talking up a big fight with 1 of them being a massive puncher. Surely they should've put this on PPV and with a 24/7 type build up show it would've generated decent numbers and the winner would've gone on to be a star, especially if it was Wilder winning by a highlight reel KO.handsofstone wrote: ↑13 Jan 2016, 15:31Unifications take precedent over Mandatories so im sure Wilder would be allowed to fight the IBF champ without vacating??lefty wrote:If Martin beats Glazkov i reckon wilder will drop the WBC strap and fight Martin for the IBF.
