Looking back at the Fury/Klitschko fight in hindsight as a contest,it was pretty poor especially from Wlad, although the last round was good but watching at the time it was absorbing viewing,i couldnt take my eyes off, just because we were seeing one of our own dethrone a champ who had been on the throne for a decade, and for that i cant argue with Tyson being FOTY,lets not forget Klitschko has stunk the joint out plenty of times but is still always in control and usually gets the KO,not this time though he was losing round after round and never hurt Fury until the last round and Tyson survived,if somehow Wlad was giving a gift of a decision in Germany then you wouldnt write him off KO'n Povetkin or Wilder next should they have fought, his reign has been peaks and troughs throughout yet he never lost

I wouldnt have argued with Golovkin either or even Mayweather seeing he won a BIG fight too

Loads of fighters won titles they werent supposed to in 2015,but none against a champ who was unbeaten in 11 years

He's the best fighter in his division,i know the HW scene isnt brilliant at the top level(for now) but what more do you want from the guy?

Im not saying he defo should have won,im just saying he's a legit nominee,GGG had 3 solid wins granted but none of the opponents were on the level that Wlad had been sitting at so Fury's 1 massive win is on a par with that, you mentionted Jack but from what i remember Anthony Dirrell was as equally poor when relinquishing his belt to Badou than Wlad was to Fury

For a personal achievment well done to tyson fury but imo there were better fighters who i would of give them it before him, winning a world title is a great achievment,it was for degale in dirrells own back yard and then defending it against bute in his own back yard, then errol spence winning 4 fights in 2015 what about Roman Gonzalez winning 3 fights in 2015 by ko ggg winning his last 21 fights by k.o beating the best in his division in style, deontay wilder winning and twice defending his title in 2015. Tyson had two fights in 2015 one he was meant to win the other he said if he didnt win then he shoukd hang his gloves up if he cant beat a 40 year old man with grey hair at the sides of his head

I guess that's what happens when you beat the sport's current longest reigning champion (I think. I will be corrected in 3...2...1...)

Whilst beating Vlad was certainly a great achievement he did very little & really only won because Vlad did even less.

Far better boxers did far more & managed to do it in exciting fights. Calling him the fighter of the year is a joke.
A fvckin men, this is a joke no wonder boxing is losing its appeal to the general public. I cant believe ppl think he was the ring magazine fighter of the year,id love to hear their reason as to why he is
Sounds like 2 posters on here don't actually understand boxing!

Yeah that's a classic Tyson only won because Vlad did less? That's pretty much how boxing works isn't it?

yeah I'd be inclined to agree with you. Clearly it suits their agenda to promote heavyweight boxing, plus he'll make more news and be more recognisable to the casual observer. I'd suggest there were far more fighters involved in more fighting and doing it in a more exciting way.

Cmon then finn, the almight boxing fan who knows everything about boxing, explain why tyson fury won this award for hardly throwing a punch sweating his bollox off in the process and moving like someone scared to get hit, just like wlad, but fury gets praised? Imo,thats right my opinion not urs,he didnt deserve this award at all, plenty of other fighters deserved this award above him. And btw i understand boxing alot iv watched the sport for the past 30 years so dont come that "looks like rwo posters dont know boxing" shite just cause some prople dont agree with you. Thats like sayin haye deserved this award for beating valuev,he was undefeated in somethin like 46 fights 7ft odd and no one could get near him previous to haye,or is it because ur hangin out of furys butt cheeks?

I thought this award would be for someone who had the most fights the most wins and doing it in style not a bore fest.

.......but, in fairness he did beat Klitschko, which was a big achievement and not heavily expected. When you compare his performance to say, David Haye's attempt...

It's killing them, mate. Six weeks on and some are going through my old posts to try to insult me because I'm a Fury fan. Mike Tyson has come out in support of Fury and he's The Ring fighter of the year, but hey, what do they know?

I have no problem with Fury whatsoever I've taken to liking him the last few years he's good for heavyweight boxing.

But fighter of the year? Would they have given the award to Wlad if he had won? Probably not there are more deserving fighters.

Because smart arse boxing is the art of hitting and not being hit, wlad didn't throw a punch because fury implemented the correct tactics to nullify his strengths. That is boxing!

Fury won almost every world title bar the WBC that night including the rings most prestigious title. Has anyone else done that this year?

Finn got it right when he said that they don't understand boxing. Complaining that the fight wasn't entertaining, and? No one's calling it fight of the year, the only other realistic contender wasn't exactly involved in a couple of barnburners himself.

As for the other candidates suggested.

Postol - Since when is beating Lucas Matthyse better than beating Wladimir Klitschko?

Golovkin - Looked good as usual but Murray, Monroe and Lemieux isn't exactly fighter of the year opposition.

Alvarez - Beat Kirkland and Cotto. Kirkland has never lived up to the hype around him and Cotto's been on the slide for years now, good year for him but not FOTY.

Frampton - Getting laughable now, looked superb against Avalos, then down twice in the first round against an unproven Gonzalez and looked far from his best in the rest of the fight. Wasn't even Irish fighter of the year.

DeGale - Beat Dirrell, but made it hard for himself after a great start, then a similar performance against a shot Bute. Didn't beat Dirrell in his backyard either as claimed, he beat him in an empty arena in Boston, 650 miles from Dirrell's hometown, it's the equivalent of an American coming over here and beating Lee Haskins in the Shetland Islands.
