best run of nanes on resume
best run of nanes on resume
So whos got the best consecutive run of big time fighters on their record ? I think a good benchmark would be Iran Barkley who faced hearns ,duran , Nunn and Benn in successive fights, can that be bettered ?
Re: best run of nanes on resume
Or what about Sanderline Williams who faced Nigel Benn, Reggie Johnson, James Toney, Gerald mcclellan and Toney again in a row, dude was fearless !
Re: best run of nanes on resume

That sprung to my mind too. Tim Bradley probably has the best active run.littlepug wrote:Tough run of fights for de la Hoya- Mosley, Sturm, Hopkins, mayorga and mayweather

Re: best run of nanes on resume
Robinson fought Turpin (twice), Olson, Graziano and Maxim in 5 successive fights.
Jersey Joe Walcott had two great consecutive runs: 1) Maxim-Ray-Maxim-Ray-Maxim- Louis-Louis-Charles: 2) Lane-Charles-Charles-Charles-Marciano-Marciano.
Joe Frazier had two excellent runs too: 1) Quarry-Ellis-Foster-Ali (won all these fights); 2) Foreman-Bugner-Ali-Quarry-Ellis-Ali-Foreman
Holyfield's run was very good too: Bowe-Moorer-Mercer-Bowe
Jimmy McLarnin's consecutive run was downright impressive: Young Corbett III-Ross-Ross-Ross-Canzoneri-Canzoneri-Ambers

Big Bill Tate holds the record for most fights in a row against HOFers with these 9:

Reading all the rematches made me think Ric Sidora who fought
Gerry Penalosa
Jung Koo Chang
Dodie Boy Penalosa
Jon Penalosa
Scoring DRAWS against all 3 Penalosa brothers
Not as impressive as any of the others but Penalosa, Chang, Penalosa, Penlosa does read pretty impressively

If I had to guess who has the best without looking I'd go with Greb without thinking. But he often had keep busy fights, so I could be wrong.
The other guy who must have a great run is Holman Williams.

Re: best run of nanes on resume
I would say the best run would have to be that of Gene Fullmer. Consecutive fights against:
Carmen Basilio
Spider Webb
Joey Giardello
Carmen Basilio
Sugar Ray Robinson
Sugar Ray Robinson
Florentino Fernandez
Benny (Kid) Paret
Dick Tiger
Dick Tiger
Dick Tiger
This is not a run, this is a gauntlet.

Great resume.
Rewatched Pascal the other day. Forgot how good it was.
A fight that is still really under-rated.

If you extend this back in time before Corbett he fought (rankings by boxrec):Boxing Writer wrote:

Sammy Fuller (67 at welter)
Benny Leonard (3 at light)
Lou Bouillard (22 at middle)
Billy Petrolle (17 at light)
Billy Petrolle (17 at light)
Billy Petrolle (17 at light)
If you accept Fuller as a good win (he knocked fornicate out of him) then that is an astounding run of fights considering he won 8 of the 13 and it was the end of his career. Some way to go out

Re: best run of nanes on resume
I think you might be right here, and we can consider Fuller as a great win since: A) he beat Berg and Canzoneri; B) McLarnin was the first man who knocked him out, and Fuller was stopped only once after that - 11 years later in the last fight of his career.davie wrote:If you extend this back in time before Corbett he fought (rankings by boxrec):Boxing Writer wrote:

So yes, 13 great fights in a row is hard to beat.
