Am I right in thinking Lopez has terrible back problems these day?

I would hate it if Yaqui was going through hard times for health or any other reasons. Yaqui and his contemporaries Marvin Johnson and Matt Franklin (both of whom I should have mentioned) absolutely define the ideal of a fighter to me to this day.

But I am sure I remember reading about Lopez suffering with bad back problems, can anyone here confirm this?

After retiring from boxing, he worked for a private sanitation company hurling barrels of trash into the back of a truck. Nine years later, he was forced to leave that vocation after severely injuring his back. Now, 10 years and five surgeries later, he is still in constant pain, but refuses to take prescribed painkillers and stays healthy by walking two to three miles a day, doing an abundance of laborious stretching exercises, and maintaining a sound diet." - Ring Magazine Feb. 2004

There were so many great fighters that never won titls, but back in the day a title didn't matter as much as how good you were. You could make a good living and be highly respected and never get a title shot because there were 8 titles and seveal thousand boxers; now there are several thousand titles and 8 boxers. By the wat Billy Graham should be on anybody's list of top guys with no title.
