Accodring boxrec Wilder is the 4 best heavyweight in the world

Post by Chepppaaa »

to me #2, so why all the hate.

cause he is talking so much sh&/(t and is arrogant, young and stupid?
but who cares what he is as a person, me as a fan of good action packed boxing, i just like his style.

I just cant understand the hatred he is getting. for ~10 years heavyweight boxing was one boring sh((/&/§t and now finaly you got action with guys like josh, parker, ortiz and wilder, but still all that hating going on. more for wilder than for the rest. why.

First of all, Boxrec works with numbers, not with opinions, so hate has absolutely no influence.

The reason a lot of people hate him is because he had a ridiculous KO rating, he outnumbered any boxer out there on that point, but once you looked more closely you realised you've never heard of any of the boxers he KOed.
If you only fight against guys that have absolutely no chance of winning against you, then why would you do the fight at all? If it's your first fight it's oké, everybody needs a step up, but after 10, 20, 25 fights you must have had at least somebody someone has ever heard of, especially if you won everything on KO this easy.
That's like racing against a Skoda while you're driving a Ferrari, it doesn't make sense, and people will start hating you for it as well, it doesn't prove you're a good driver or anything like that.

After about 25 fights he finally started fighting names people actually heard of, but the hate has already started at that time and they clearly weren't top contenders.
Nowadays he actually proved to be quite a good boxer, he hasn't proved he's the best of the world, but at least he proved to be a decent top 10 contender. But for a hater somehow there isn't really a way back any more, if they now start to become a fan they prove themself wrong, so they can't do much else any more as continue to hate.
If Deontay Wilder never fought his first 25 fights he would have been loved way more right now.

Also, his behaviour doesn't really help either, continually calling yourself good, while only taking fights where you clearly have the odds, making fun of opponends, telling AJ he needs to step up while AJ already boxed more boxrec top 100 opponends within 15 fights as Deontay now has after 35 fights. accusing several opponends from using PEDs or similar stuff without any evidence whatsoever, or 'evidence' of ages ago where Shannon Briggs clearly had a excuse for, burning or shooting things that his opponends have as an alias, screaming out loud like a complete idiot... Those are the kind of people you just want to see failing don't you?

every boxer should call themselves good. its called confindence.

so julio cesar chavez fights 40 nobodys before boxing some good opponents and for him its okay. and wilder cant have some 25 easy opponents?

malik scott is 8 best accord boxrec
stiverne was champ and is now 17 best acc box
splika is in the top 30 i guess

so he boxed guys, who are now top 10 like scott or top 20 like stiverne, on top he calls out and wants to fight the top guys like povetkin and fury, so where is the damn problem?

to be quiet frankly, i dont like wilder. i dont like his shooting and him being stupid, which surely is. but i dont wanna be friends with the guy, i just wanna watch him box on tv. and i like good action, he brings good action, all that is. i want guys to fail who are boring, because life itself is often super boring, so why would i watch something boring on tv?

He fought a bunch of bums
Then he fought a particularly weak world champion
Then he fought some more risk free punch bags

He's not ranked for that reason and that reason alone, nothing to do with hate.
He might be the best heavywieght on the planet and I'm not saying he isn't, but so far he has done absolutely nothing to prove it, no matter how enjoyable he has been to watch knocking over the proverbial tomato cans

I think he was underrated by some and has improved but he still has not looked great in his last two fights. he was hurt against Molina and actually struggled quite a bit with szpilka until the pole ran out of gas.

I think he is a top5-10 guy but I just don't see him as good as povetkin, fury or even haye and Joshua. he works hard and is a good athlete but he is easy to hit once you get into his range.

I don't hate him at all. Just don't think he's very good. Erratic and unbalanced. Plenty of power though. Wilder and Fury are good for HW boxing at the moment.

Great question ! These critics keep bringing up Mayweather. My theory is that Mayweather-Canalo, May-Berto, May-Pac, and May-Berto and other thrillers are so easy to predict, it makes them feel smart. A Fury or Wilder fight has suspense. Their predictions are wrong. They feel stupid, so they complain. Some miss Wlad's head pushdowns as well.

Ya, you keep banging on about the HWs being unpredictable but I'm not really seeing it, and Fury's last three fights have been dross with zero moments of drama or major momentum shifts. Floyd is just one fighter by the way and not a whole division, and he gets loads of hate for his style.

By the way, isn't Wlad a big punching (unlike Fury) but fragile guy who has been stopped three times and put down even more? Did you get all excited about the suspense his fights offered?

I've read a lot talking about Wilders all action style.

Yes he delivers knock out because he's heavy handed but is he really all action?
I've found him to be quite cautious and tentative, staying at range, not throwing combinations.
I'd like to see his punch stats for his last 4 fights (I think the Duhaupas fight could be an exception, he put punches together well in that fight.)
But certainly against Stiverne he boxed and took few real risks, against Molina he was poor and he struggled to get off and really mix it with Szpilka the other night

I find his fights exciting and enjoyable, but much of that is down to anticipation that he will eventually detonate that right hand and also because he looks vulnerable at times. But i wouldn't say he's all action.

He's not as dull as Wlad, but you could argue Wlad was just as likely to deliver a knock out blow and also had his frailties, which is why, despite the wrestling and upright 1-2 style, I enjoyed watching him fight (although I suspect I'm in the minority there)

Great minds and all that :TU:

Another thing Tony, you mention people getting their predictions wrong for Wilder and Fury fights, but between them I think they've been the favorites for all but one or two bouts, and both of those would've been Fury fights (Wlad and possibly Chisora I; can't recall the odds for the latter). Wilder has generally been expected to beat all the opponents he's faced, even when he fought the absolutely incredible Bermane Stiverne, so it's not like he's proving the masses wrong and I question whether there's been as much goalpost moving as you think. Do you want people to go crazy over Deontay's wins against C/C+ level guys like Artur/Molina/Duhaupas (not exactly easy fights for him either) and assume that because he beat them there shouldn't be doubt about him beating people like Fury and Povetkin? That all his technical flaws shouldn't be criticized?

Wilder is good--despite the technical shortcomings he's got impressive power that he keeps late, solid speed, and a legit HW frame--but I'm very eager to finally see him against a top-tier guy so I can get a better idea of how good. If he beats Povetkin or Fury I think he'll get a lot of credit, credit that the nature of his performances don't merit right now.

Personally I think 4th is spot on - Fury, Wlad and Povetkin should all rank higher.

Wilder's power and athleticism are unquestionable, but he isn't the most coordinated or skilled.

i found his style action packed, not onl the knock outs, but the way he fights, if he got you hurt, he tries to finish it. he is throwing bombs all over the place, cant remember of a boring fight of his.

A couple of points.

1. Wilder is ranked 4th because BoxRec rankings are impartial and they are dictated by a rigid points system, if a fighter wants to score heavy points and move up the rankings, then he has to beat an opponent with a lot of points to his name, simples. And it's actually a very good (if not perfect) system - look at David Haye's current ranking (47th) and that is exclusively because he fought a nobody in his comeback fight. It is a fair system.

2. I do dislike Wilder. For me, he's a heavy hitter who has a big mouth, yet doesn't have the courage to back it up. When he defeated Stiverne for the WBC Title he was VERY vocal about making a splash in the Heavyweight division and repeatedly mentioned Klitschko's name, yet the fight didn't materialize. Also, his last three opponents have been of a poor quality. He wants to be the number one, yet he won't fight opponents ranked in the top 20.

:shame: :shame: :shame:

I would think Wilder at 4 is what most have him rated, Fury, Wlad and Povetkin have to in front. Hard to find someone more deserving of a spot in front of Wilder.
