just because your are world champion doesnt mean you automaticly better than everybody else, it is just a title.

donaire was the world champion of his division and rigo schooled him like donaire was a journeyman.

experts go by ability, not by some mythical status or title. x leg is for sure not the best heavyweight in the world.
Spoken like a true fool or hypocrite. Fury beat a man who was untouchable for a decade.

And you want to bring up such childish babble?

Wilder, as we all know and see, struggles with fringe contenders. He hasn't shown signs of improving. He just waits to land the bomb. He won't fight anyone of any size at all. The Pole demonstrated to me, at least, if he was Fury's height Wilder wouldn't have been able to do crap. Wilder could hardly land anything concrete on him, cus his head movement was so good. He is an out and out goon, with decent hand speed and nothing more.

its not funny anymore, the amount of non experts.

everybody was wrong about wlad being the best heavyweight and now everybody is wrong again in thinking fury is the best heavyweight. basicly you just following who the title has and MUST be #1 in the world, like a title would give you extra power

wilder or ortiz are better than fury at anything, you guys are funny

No, by that logic the same people would think that whoever beats Charles Martin next would be no1 and that would be awfully stupid.

Wlad was no1 bacause he consistently proved over a number year that he is no1, by consistently beating the best fighters available, mandatories, no1 contenders etc
Fury didn't beat a champion, he beat the champion, he beat the man so as far as we can tell without everyone facing off, he is the man.

are there better fighters among this current crop? possibly, but they'll have a lot to do to prove it.

BoxRec top 5 ranking: Fury, Wlad, Povetkin, Wilder, Pulev

Sounds right to me.

The second best and #1 contender is Wladimir Klitschko

The third best and #2 contender is Alexander Povetkin

The HW with the most potential is Anthony Joshua.

Quite a good summary even though you didn't give Wilder any love.

5th is up for debate, probably got to give it to Wilder right now but if Haye is still as good as he was then he'd beat Wilder easily.

Povetkin and Ortiz could be the other way round, that'd be a great fight.

As long as he shows up in shape, I think Ortiz stops them all.

Mmmm 'common sense' would mean go for the guy that can box surely? Wilder is KO artist nothing more, he is completely all over the place in terms of boxing ability, if that what it's even called. I doubt Fury gets to fight him, not for a title at least, if as expected Povetkin gets his shot at Deontay.

In your context I will give credit to Wilder for getting as far as he has.

Now that's actual 'common sense' :TU:

I feel embarrassed reading this on a boxing forum for adults.

Tyson Fury is the man in the division, and will be till someone beats him.

Wilder is one of the biggest frauds in boxing with the most protected record out there. He's tall, has power, can go rounds but that's where it ends.
Once he steps into the ring with a top rated guy instead of these C level opponents he gets wiped out early.
Fury is the number 1 heavyweight at the moment until beaten.
Joseph Parker and AJ are the ones with the most potential who should be looking to have a big 2016.

Look, I like Fury just as much as the next guy but let's not get crazy here. How in the world can this guy grab over 44 of the votes on this poll? Is it just the Brits clicking with their heart? Absolutely is. I love the competition in the division but let's cut the comedy.

I might have to say Povetkin is the "best" (Its like the stupid P4P debate) followed by Ortiz but factor in size and age in head to head matchups I will choose this list:

1. Deontay Wilder
2. Alexander Povetkin
3. Luis Ortiz
4. Tyson Fury
5. Anthony Joshua
6. Wladimir Klitschko
7. Joseph Parker
8. Hughie Fury
9. Robert Helenius
10. Charles Martin

Very true. It won't be the first time that I've been way off about something. Just from simply using the eye test on this one, with all of the surging heavyweights recently televised, my eyes tell me that Fury was the least impressive in terms of boxing skills. Not to mention that his fight with Wlad was the worst championship fight I've ever witnessed in 35 years of watching the sport.

It doesn't mean I'm right though, I agree. In fact, I hope that I'm wrong on this one because I think Fury is GREAT for the sport and the heavyweight division. Absolutely love what he's doing building a buzz.

Conjecture is fine but until it materializes in the ring Fury is King. If WKlit wins the rematch he retakes the crown.

Someday we can all look back and say one or the other boxer was the best of the era but in real time Fury dethroned the king and assumed the throne.

So under this rational, you must have been just fine with Cotto being the lineal Middleweight Champion of the world then right? I don't have to look at some of your old posts complaining about this will I? Cotto beat Sergio so he must have been the man then right? Timing is everything and Sergio was going to lose against anyone they put in the other corner that night. Same with Wlad, he's done. He's old and he's slow. He gets beat by most of the top 10 right now. That doesn't mean that the guy lucky enough to get at him when the getting's good is the best in the world. He's going to have to do a lot more than beat a 40 year old guy that refused to throw punches or forgot to.

Not a bad argument but we aren't talking about MW, this is about HW. There are no catchweights and there was no argument prior to Fury v WKlit who the king of the hill was.

Fury did not get lucky. His gifts (size, length) and skills (head movement, mobility, jab) were perfect to defeat WKlit. Did Wlad's age have something to do with it? Maybe. But, the thing that had the most to do with it was WKlit's concern for his weak chin against a bigger man with decent skills.

As far as Cotto goes, there would have been no controversy if Miguel decided to fight at the 160 limit and defend against 3G. Fury is giving the dethroned king his rematch and there is no indication that he intends to avoid anyone.

Fury is the king of the hill, like it or not. Any opinion to the contrary is pure conjecture until proven in the ring.

No one is disputing that fact. Fury owns the belt and he is officially the king of the hill of the division. This discussion is who is the best heavyweight in the world right now considering all of the heavyweight boxers. Most knowledgeable boxing opinions do not agree with Fury in the least.

2. Klitschko. obviously
3. Povetkin

the rest are a bit of a jumble. there need to be a few big eliminators.

Haye is easily back in the top 10

Classic. So now the overwhelming majority of those with an opinion on this site are not knowledgeable? I'm not taking the bait. You are just flat out wrong, whether you consider yourself knowledgeable or not.

"Most knowledgeable boxing opinions" gave Fury little to zero chance v the acknowledged king of the HW division, WKlit.

Fury is the king of the HWs. That is a fact. All other opinions are based on conjecture, knowledgeable or not.
