Haye comeback draws over 3 million viewers

Post by Like a Boss »

David Haye broke broadcasting records for Dave, with a peak of 3 million viewers tuning in to watch the Haye vs Mark De Mori fight.

Dave, broadcasting a live sports event for the very first time, peaked at 3.02 million viewers for the fight – 14% of the UK TV audience – making it the top non-public broadcast service program of the day.

During the fight Dave actually experienced a higher share of the UK audience than Channel 4 and was only 1 per cent behind ITV. In addition, 100,000 viewers streamed the fight live on YouTube around the world.

Haye also managed to fill the O2 arena.

The dooms-dayers seem to have gotten things wrong.

For some reason de Mori's reach never seems to get published. This might have been the ideal time to measure it :

Out of interest, what are the average PBC fight getting on free-to-air channels in the US?

I've seen comparisons of UK vs USA ppv stats and I've seen Sky vs Showtime/HBO type comparisons but I'd be interested to see what kind of figure you get for free fights

I've never understood how they know how many people are watching which channel in their own homes. How do they know that information?
I mean - the thing about the TV licence going around was just a myth, apparently, so how are they working it out sat in an office somewhere?
The electricity grid might know when there's a power surge, but they don't know who'se making cups of tea and who's got every light on the house on. :-?

3 million viewers, wow. Good for boxing! More fights on freeview channels please.

And although the fight wasn't a classic, it was a stonking big knock-out.

That is a great figure for an channel like Dave.

Let's hope that they starting showing more fights in the future.

Maybe they can sign Haye up for a series of fights & Team Haye can find some opponents with a pulse between them & he can then build up a following as he tries to regain an HW title trinket..

I was surprised when they announced the fight was on Dave, but these figures justify it completely.

Haye's name still generates a buzz amoung the British public, I checked my Facebook Sunday morning and it was littered with Haye related posts, most of which were by people who don't normally follow boxing.

Figures for recent Japanese shows were posted recently that we helped put together for boxingmonthly
The doubleheader featuring Inoue and Yaegashi drew around 5 million viewers, the Kosei Tanaka bout 4 million, the Ioka/Takayama broadcast 5.5 million and even the mismatch doubleheader from Tokyo featuring Uchiyama and Taguchi was viewed by 2.4 million viewers in a delayed showing. Also Shinsuke Yamanaka’s last ring appearance against Anselmo Moreno was watched by around 8 million viewers showing that boxing can be a ratings winner given the appropriate fight and platform. All numbers are approximate and many thanks to Asianboxing.info for providing them.

Funny thing about those shows is none were shown nationally due to the way Japanese TV works.

A friend of mine went to the fight and said the atmosphere was great for the main event, and there weren't too many spare seats around. It goes to show that Haye is still one of the biggest draws in the UK.

Wow those numbers are impressive.

The more boxing on free to air the better for the sport in general.

Good god, I guess he does have a substantial fan base.

I'm mystified quite how so many people paid to see this, it was always going to be a total blow over job. Go figure.

Good.

I'm glad boxing got good numbers on a relatively 'normal' channel. Hopefully this leads to more of the same which can only be good fo r sport. Particularly if the quality of the opposition goes up.

True.

I hope Haye can be showcased on Dave, but he's going to need better opposition.

He can't pull those kind of numbers if does an Audley Harrison by fighting the walking dead, although, Haye wouldn't look as poor as Harrison did against his stiffs.

Yeah they fit boxes to TVs in a few thousand houses and monitor what they watch, the figures are estimates based on this data.
