New challenge belts?

Post by JM915 »

Keep seeing posts about new challenge belts which have replaced the masters titles.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me & what the belts are all about?

Pretty similar to the old masters belts to be fair, can be fought for over 8 rounds (or 10 I believe).

Seem to be being used as the masters were i.e to make a small hall show headline fight (that in reality is the standard prospect v journeyman) seem better.

As above took over from the masters title. Any body can fight for one. Their helping small hall promoters as well as getting novice pros 8-10 round fights

Will boxrec eventually be recognising them? What's the criteria for boxrec recognising a belt?

And anyone got a pic of a challenge belt?

They never recognised the masters belts so I doubt they'll recognise these to be honest.

I was hoping when they came in they would be used in the way the British Master was when it was done well. ie a competitive area title type level fight (where it maybe the case they're not from the the same area) but they seem to just be being used just to up the rounds in a pretty standard prospect v journeyman fight and add a belt to the posters.

Lets just hope they don't start throwing in bronze and silver ones.

I have a simple rule I'll go to any local show as long as theres at least one (usually headline) competitive fight on the card. Therefore doubt I'll see the challenge title too much.

Couldn't agree more. My biggest beef in boxing is the fact that some shows can have a bill full of 1 sided bouts. I know people are going to say this has to happen but at least make the fights competitive instead of fat Latvian imports & journeyman scared that a win will harm their next payday.

Those type shows just have no interest for me to be honest. Don't get me wrong I understand small hall promoters can't be putting on a card full of 50/50s and there obviously is a need for prospect/journeymen fights to develop the younger fighter so I don't mind if the undercards full of them as long as theres at least 1 competitive fight (preferably over 10 rounds) I'll be there!

Thats why I love the area titles to be honest, I've seen some cracking area title fights. Just checked and out of the 8 Midland Area Title fights that happened in 2015 I was at 6 of them! Promoters take not stick a well matched fight on top of the bill and people will come. If its down to cost I'd much rather a 5/6 (even 3/4) fight card with a real fight on top of the bill than a 10 fight one sided card.

They're just like the masters belts but are instead endorsed and recognised by the board. There's no gold silver and bronze either. The two challenge belt contests I've MC'd so far have both been 8 rounders. I've also heard of an up coming international challenge belt contest.

The belt sort of looks like the ring belt, I'll try and find a pic.

There are 4 variations.
British and International, Junior (8 rounds) and Full (10 rounds).

So basically just the Masters titles without the option for a 12 rounder and without Bruce Baker in charge

They look far better than the masters ones at least. Having 4 versions though? Couldn't they just have made 2. 10 rounder ones
