WBA BUFFOONS REQUIRE 6 FIGHTS TO DETERMINE WBA CHAMP

And one of the fights even features Fres Oquendo - 40+ and KOd by John Ruiz 12 years ago.

It took only 4 fights for Mike Tyson to both unify all belts and slay the lineal the champ.

Well at least we should end up with just one champ. Should do it in all divisions and try and restore an ounce of credibility.

But I think The tournament would be better if it was to determine the mandatory to Fury. As the real champ, why should he take part in this? He already is The Man.

Their website has the full release at http://www.wbanews.com/boxing-news/wba- ... e-champion

Some comedy gold in it - "In order to have one champion like everybody is expecting from the WBA..." says Gilberto Mendoza. Based on the last few years, I expect the WBA to have at least four champions at any one time - interim, regular, super, XXL, whatever. The one thing I don't expect is just one.

I do like the word Buffoon, a highly underused word these days.

I remember, back in the 80's, being dismayed by the fragmentation of the title into (at that time) three, WBA, WBC and IBF, and how difficult it was to get a single champ. Now it's harder than that just to get a single WBA champ, and then that person needs to win ANOTHER 3 titles to even look a bit undisputed. It's like Kafka wrote a boxing comedy.

There won't be only one WBA heavyweight champion for long, if at all.

this makes no sense to me, so fury has to beat klit, then winner of ortiz fight, then winner of brownes quarter and semi, all for a title he already has.
this wouldnt be too bad if there was only one federation and it was to become the undisputed world champ, but by this logic would he have to do the same for the ibf, wbo and wbc. :bag:

How long until the WBO give Fury a mandatory fight and he cannot fight the next schedules opponent? This is a terrible idea.

Fury would be fighting weaker opposition as the tournament progresses.

This tournament is a mess.

Here's what they should do to sort out this mess

Weight classes with two ' champions 'secondary is stripped immediately and named mandatory for the top one. Winner of contest is the sole WBA champion in that weight class.

Weight classes with three champions the regular and interim champions are stripped immediately and ordered to fight in a final eliminator to determine the mandatory for the Super champion, who becomes the sole WBA champion in that weight class.

Not that hard.

I can slate the WBC IBF and the WBO loads but this lot are an abomination to the sport.

The tournament is daft, but anything that makes Fury and Ortiz fight each other is fine by me.

This was probably a long term aim of all of the sanctioning bodies that have multiple clamps at the same weight.

It'll be a big money spinner for them.

1 or 2 interesting match ups that will be well worth watching bit overall a totally gash situation.

its basically the 2 belt holders fighting their mandatory or rematch fights Fury has a rematch he has to have then the mandatory is either Ustinov or Ortiz same with Chagaev who had his mandatory against Browne then a rematch with Oquendo that he has to fight as he didn't rematch him last year when it was in a clause then the winners fight each other

I say this on every single thread about belts, but I will say it again anyway - who gives a toss about them, they are totally meaningless in this day and age.

Undisputed use to mean holding all the real belt's last time I checked it was 4 belt's and please don't any-one bring up the IBO and GGG
or Wlad because the next question i'll throw at ya will be find out when GGG or Wlad make their last mandatory IBO title defence so in other word's who was the last number 1 contender of the IBO that they were forced to fight or they would be stripped of their precious IBO strap if they didn't go through with the fight if the WBA wants credability please have one Champion :TU:

Why has this just been decided for heavyweights and not all weights?
Do they intend to do away with regular and super?
Is this just the WBAs way of trying to get their belt away from Tyson Fury without being quite as transparent as the IBF?

As they probably think they can make a lot of sanctioning fees out of having the heavyweights pay for eliminator a and such. I am convinced money is behind the decision in some way.

A day before this it was announced it was announced that a Chinese guy (Qiu Xiao Jun) would be fighting a guy from Ghana (Raymond Conner) for the "regular" version of Quigg's title. Jun is the #9 ranked guy and Commey is #11.

The WBA are trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes and will announce a new regular title after the Fury/Klitschko faces the Ortiz/Ustinov winner. It's rather transparent.
