Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
I see everyone complain about Deontay Wilder ducking Povetkin.
If you fallow boxing for longer time , you must know that Povetkin won WBA title from Chagaev , after that he was ducking Wladimir for years and defended that title against bums like old Rahman , Andrzej Wawrzyk.
He pulled fight against Wlad once than more time.
I see double standarts in boxing.
If Wilder fought a guy like Takam most of you would complain that Takam is a bum who lost against Gregory Tony and needed 8 rounds against old Michael Grant.
I can't wait for your reactions when Wilder beats Povetkin. You will call him an old washed up bum with short reach.
Let's not forget that Fury looked even more crap against poor opposition and got even kd by Cunninham.
With your logic Wladimir was supposed to ko him without problems but it did not happen.
Wilder is coming for Sasha and haters prepare yourself because i will return to this topic

Thank you for that. They keep moving the goalposts for Wilder. Fury has gotten a lot of criticism too.
Sure, Fury-Wlad lacked action. Thank goodness when half starved 118 pounders fight, it's always exciting. Yes, that was sarcastic.
Some boxing fans seem to only like fights when they know EXACTLY what is going to happen. Some people need a high level of predicability in their lives.

The biggest joke is that Wilder's or Fury's haters are fans of GGG and they claim he is number one p4p king hahahahaha
Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
Povetkin was embarrassing against Wlad, and really typified how poor the division was.
This will be Wilder's toughest test so far, but I would still expect him to win. May have to go 12 rounds to do it.

And Wilder is a WBC paper champion.
Let them fight and then all the geniuses can brag about how they were right or wrong or whatever.

Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
The respect people have for Povetkin generally increased with his post-Wlad demolition of a solid group of opposition. He got plenty of criticism before that and for years was widely accused of ducking.
Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
All this talk about how Povetkin and his fearful ability Povetkin is one of the most overrated fighter around ![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)
Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
The same bum Andrzej Wawrzyk who was being discussed as a possible world title opponent for Wilder VERY recently?conty22 wrote:I see everyone complain about Deontay Wilder ducking Povetkin.

Anyway, now the IBF title is a genuine out for Wilder we will definitively see if he's gonna duck or not.

I'm a big fan of Povetkin but when he was avoiding Wlad I was critical of that
Not however, critical of his ability, as I thought he was the best of the rest in the division, which was exactly why I wanted him in there fighting Wlad
I still believe he's top 3 and a serious threat to anyone in the division.
The guy has talent, he has very few weaknesses, with the exception of maybe his head movement and obviously the height and reach issues
but he gets credit now for the way he has dealt with the guys he's fought since Wlad and the way he has disposed of them.
And you can't continue criticising him for ducking Wlad over 2 years after HE ACTUALLY FOUGHT HIM

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say Povetkin has "fearful ability". But he's one of the very best heavyweights around today. To deny this shows a lack of comprehension skills.campfire wrote:All this talk about how Povetkin and his fearful ability Povetkin is one of the most overrated fighter around
Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
Povetkin was a paper champion. Now as a non-titlist, his quality of opposition is better than most of the titlists like Wilder. Povetkin has all of the respect now that I didn't give him when he had a belt.
Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
To sum up:
*Povetkin fought a list of bums on route to winning a title and took deserved criticism
*Wilder fought a list of bums on route to winning a title and took deserved criticism
*Povetkin fought a man, who wasn't the man, for a version of the world title and took deserved criticism
*Wilder fought a man, who wasn't the man, for a version of the world title and took deserved criticism
*Povetkin spent years avoiding the best opposition, Wlad, while holding a "world title" and took deserved criticism
*Wilder is currently avoiding the best opposition, Povetkin/Wlad/Fury etc, while holding a "world title" and takes deserved criticism
*Povetkin eventually fought the man, then fought a bunch of top contenders and earned the credit his talent deserved and is waiting patiently for his chance to fight for a title again
*Wilder...............
As soon as I can complete that last sentence, Wilder will get the credit he deserves.
If he ducks Povetkin he will continue to get criticism, if he fights him I'll give him his dues, if he beats him I'll rank him as arguably the best
If he never fights Fury, he'll get criticism, if he fights him I'll give him his dues, if he beats him I'll rank him as the best!

He is a guy with talent and he beat some talented guy's along the way that's all he's 36 and past his best at this point in time if any of the titlest are running scared from this guy they really need to get help with their head a mental health specialist might be able to point them in the right direction :lol
Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
Not sure they're scared but they won't be queuing up to face him. He's a risk and one thing we know about world champions and the people who choose their fights for them, is they don't want avoidable risks.
I reckon Wilder will duck him
Think about it, you can face your mandatory who is good or you can add another title to your collection fighting Martin, what do you do?

i strongly disagree with the earliar point about Takam.
Carlos Takam is one very underrated guy who thoroughly deserves a bauble shot.
He's a class level above Szpilka

Re: Povetkin was a WBA paper champion
Wilder still can't beat Chagaev, and even before that title Povetkin beated Byrd (previous world champion, a guy that beated one of the Klitschko's as well once with luck, but oke), beated the unbeaten Eddy Chambers, beated Cedric Boswell who had a rating that was higher as Szpilka's rating currently is, beated Marco Huck while training just before the match, Povetkin didn't even take Huck serious, Andrzej Wawrzyk is still more impressive as Duhaupas was, as well before as after the fight against Povetkin, outside of Povetkin he still hasn't ever been beaten.conty22 wrote:I see everyone complain about Deontay Wilder ducking Povetkin.

Also, I accept Wilder's and his team their choices, unless he's now ducking Povetkin again saying he wants to unify the titles.
If you carry the WBC belt you have to fight the best boxers out there, that's not a rule, that's just the thing that should be done out of respect for the belt.
And I'll be honoust, Wilder improved a lot after Stiverne, he actually has a chance against Povetkin, his reach is better, he's taller, Povetkin is a better boxer, in a worser body.
The hate exists because he's claiming to be the best of the world, without ever fighting anyone who came even close near the top of the world, also, that's something Povetkin never claimed as far as I know. Next to that he's uccusing others for using PEDs and stuff like that just randomly, that's just sad and silly. Wilder simply doesn't have a mature attitude out of the ring, his screaming is annoying. He got some skills and a good boxing body, but he really hasn't proved much yet.

Povetkin had a couple good performances and boxing fans, being battered wives to still watch this sport, forget about all the bad things that happen to them on a repeated basis with just a couple nights in the sack.
