Who was the better puncher?

Both very similar I think. Great, technically sound punchers with a stocked arsenal, the right hand being their best.

I'll take Arguello, by a very slim margin, although admittedly, I haven't seen as much of Gomez as I'd like.

I pick Arguello simply because his punch seemed to remain a very potent weapon even when he moved up in weight whereas Gomez definitely lost something the higher up he went.

I agree with Ezzards opinion , Arguello was a very damaging puncher even at over 140 , even at 34 yrs old he took a pretty solid Billy Costello out of there with one shot. I think Alexis knocked out a little higher level of competition than Gomez also.

Both guys were brutal punchers.......with neither have a big edge of the other in terms of pure punching power (P4P that is).

If I had to pick one....I'd go with Gomez when he was at 122 (JFW).
