I'm a big fan of Adrian Granat, been following him since his amateur days. I like Hughie too.world ranked wrote:Adrian Granat & Hughie fury better opponents with much less hype.Lackeos wrote:Active heavyweight prospects who are 24 years old or younger who have a better resume than Parker? But unsurprisingly you're way off base again.
What are Fury's best wins? Rudenko and Arias? Maybe throw Danny Hughes in there as well as sad as that sounds. You really think that is a better resume than Parker who has Meehan, Botha, Minto, Tank Williams, and Tupou? I'd really like to hear you make the case for that!
Through ten fights I do think Granat has a slightly better resume than Parker, but not by much. Sprott, Williams, and Wilson are almost unconscious before the opening bell these days and Airich, though a tricky journeyman, isn't known for having any sort of punch resistance at all. But I would still say it's slightly stronger than Parker who had Botha and Minto at that same time. I WISH Granat had more hype, and I'm sure he does too. He'd make more money and have more opportunities if more people knew who he was. But apparently you appreciate that no one ever talks about him like it's good for his career or something

Re: Top Heavyweight prospect Parker stopped Bergman Saturday
Well I disagree. I tend to think that Brian Minto and Kali Meehan are quite clearly better than Michael Sprott and Darnell Wilson, and even more clearly better than Andriy Rudenko and George Arias. Having said that, Adrian Granat and Hughie Fury are among the other best 24-and-under prospects, and I agree that Adrian Granat isn't getting enough hype. I have been tempted to create threads to draw attention to Adrian Granat. But Parker has still fought 2 then top 50 opponents, whereas Granat and Fury have each fought 0 top 50 opponents.world ranked wrote:Adrian Granat & Hughie fury better opponents with much less hype.Lackeos wrote:Active heavyweight prospects who are 24 years old or younger who have a better resume than Parker? I think Rudenko is better than Meehan and Minto when Parker fought them but I get your point. We just agree to disagree.Lackeos wrote:Well I disagree. Re: Top Heavyweight prospect Parker stopped Bergman Saturday
I don't see how Granat and Hughie have fought superior opposition.
Michael Sprott had been knocked out three times in a row entering the Granat fight, and that included a first round KO loss to Parker victim Kali Meehan; Wilson had also been knocked out three times in a row and had lost 15 out of his last 17; and Airich hasn't even provided a test to anyone in years. Aside from this Granat has no recognizable names on his record. Hughie has the Rudenko win, and that's solid for a prospect considering that Rudenko gave Browne issues (so did Julius Long), but I don't think Rudenko has shown himself to be superior to people like Tupou (dropped Jennings), Minto (who at the time was coming off a stoppage of Shane Cameron) or Meehan (who as mentioned still had enough left to flatten Sprott). Who is the next best opponent Hughie fought after Rudenko? Arias? Danny Hughes--whom Hughie struggled with?
Overall I think there is more depth to Parker's resume. In my opinion the version of Minto who Parker fought was about as capable as anyone the other two fought, while someone like Sherman Williams has shown himself to be exceptionally durable and at least as good of a test as anyone Hughie and Granat have fought, taking rounds off people like Charr and Helenius while only being stopped once. Tupou has at least shown himself to be a solid puncher, I'd say as hard as the best punchers the other pair have faced, and Meehan was still good enough to flatten one of the best opponents Granat fought in Michael Sprott and score a win over domestic rival Shane Cameron after that. Looking past their best wins I'd also say that people like Nascimento, old Botha, and Pettaway are better than people like Olabamwio, McPhilban, horrificially shot Danny Williams, Tomas Mazrik.
Aside from resumes manner of victory makes Parker stand out more than the other two in my opinion. He's shown a superior combination of speed and power, and has produced spectacular knockouts at a higher level than the other two have. He also has an excellent range of punches and puts together combinations about as well as anyone in the division, and there have been no tough, competitive fights with people like Danny Hughes. He does need a bit of polishing, and he's shown defensive lapses, but overall I've been impressed.
I've already expressed my disappointment with his last two opponents, but he's very young for a HW and has plenty of time to step up and get better. And yes, everyone is cheering for Lupesoliai La'auli because he's white

Polynesians are white
That's fornicating brilliant.
Anthony Joshua has more white blood in him than Parker does
This WAS a poor opponent considering his high ranking but it was more of a showcase deal. They were fighting on a tiny Samoan Island. Parker is a Samoan/Kiwi. I think it's great that he gives something back to this tiny Island nation in a remote area.
I also agree that Hughie Fury has beaten better opponents but they're both just kids (in heavyweight terms) so not going to put either one down.
Best of luck to both of them & all of you

Re: Top Heavyweight prospect Parker stopped Bergman Saturday
Jason Bergman is reported as having said Parker is the same as Povetkin, only difference is you can't see POVETKIN coming..make of that as you will.
Col Bob Sheraldon who calls a lot of elite Heavyweight fights has said the Joseph has the quickest hands. Power is in abundance in the heavyweights but speed isn't always on a high unless your like a prime Tyson or Ali where speed was that extra factor they had over game opponents.
Bergman who sparred World Champion Deontay Wilder has been reported also that Joseph hits Harder, is faster and throws more in bunches.
Interesting stuff. .

Parker will either KO or at the very least beat Hughie Fury by un dec and today I seen another opponent in the near future in former
USA Olympic rep Dominic Beazeale who went 17-0 but still got dropped on his butt by a man in his 40's who quit on his stool afew
round's later............I hope Team Parker take the step up in class this year and get on some big show's in USA/UK especially with Boxing having a resurgence in England[UK] in the Heavyweight's like I can't remember come to think of it this is a good fight for Parker also Dillian Whyte would help Josephs cause I think he beats Whyte and Beazeale these are the type of fight's that will make him ready when he gets too the cream of the crop........

I'm not sure where Hughie is up the ladder but from what I see in his fights is that he drops his guard and doesn't have quick head movement or good footwork. Parkers speedy straights will overwhelm him.
Parkers management is aiming up high. They are chasing Anthony Joshua or as it states below, they have been chasing Joshua. I hear Parkers fighting again in April so maybe he's chasing Joshua for April..

I think Duhaupas could be a very nice opponend for him, that way you can compare him to Wilder, I think that they are even interested in America since Duhaupas Wilder fight.

parker had not fought a south paw before as pro and it showed as he looked not as good as usual . The speed and power was there and hard body shots but joe had trouble with accuracy vs the tough south paw
Great learning exp to go 8 rounds tho .

Re: Top Heavyweight prospect Parker stopped Bergman Saturday
There is pretty much zero chance of Parker vs Joshua happening in next two years. My guess is IF both keep winning they will meet in some kind of eliminator for title fight or in title fight. That is pretty big IF anyways :geek2:
Re: Top Heavyweight prospect Parker stopped Bergman Saturday
Duhaupas would be a good opponent for Parker....Joshua not so much.
And please not a fight with Solomon Haumano, at least until after Parker has a step-up fight. If he beats someone like Duhaupas then stays active by fighting Haumano, okay.

parker is'nt going anywhere soon...
his promoters, duco events, have already said his next two fights, upto july, are going to be in new zealand...and thats seriously going to limit the calibre of fighter he's gonna face..
he could challenge joshua for the commonwealth belt...but theres a decent possibility that joshua may have vacated it by the time parker is brave enough to leave his backyard

Not happy to hear that he's back home to fight because you're most likely right, they're going to bring in another one in for the highlight reel.pasty_spud wrote:parker is'nt going anywhere soon...

I can only speculate either that they're having difficulty finding an opponent or they saw some things they weren't happy with against Bergman and decided that Joe needs a few more build up fights.
That's a new one. I thought Briggs would be in a tree just outside the Klitchkos house.RandomUsername wrote:Joseph Parker is ducking Shannon Briggs

Parker's skillset is more impressive than Joshua's. But it's odd the calibre of his opposition seems to have dipped after the Sherman Williams fight, which was an impressive win for someone with his level of experience.
If a fight with Browne can't be made he needs to move overseas.

Parker has faced several better opponents as Sherman Williams :s I've once seen Sherman as a good opponent for AJ though, not because he's good, but because he can give rounds.dempseyfire wrote:Parker's skillset is more impressive than Joshua's. I haven't checked it, but I believe him blind.Parker beat Minto in the 7th-Whyte best Minto in 3rd.Parker beat Costa in the 4th-Whyte beat Costa in the 1st.Parker beat Nasciemento in the 7th-Whyte beat Nasciemento in the 2nd.

I don't genuinely know what the best course of action for Parker is, after his two final fights in NZ, he needs to either go US or UK. I think US has a greater depth of the right kind of opposition for him to progress, but we will not have a genuine read on his ability to fight at the top level until then.
I think we all need to remember that every top level HW, regardless of their 'prospect', will have this period of stepping up their opposition, or learning their trade before making that necessary step up to the highest level. Wilder did it for 30 fights and Joshua/Parker are on the cusp. Parker is only 17 fights in, if he steps up his opposition level by 20 fights in, he's probably on schedule, and loads of time in hand.
I think we should all be a little more patient and just look forward to the prospective fights coming in the future of what I see as a packed heavyweight division.

Anyone who's boxed obviously knows better than to make a conclusion that person A would "KILL" person B based on person As faster victories. If boxing was a race to see who KOS fast then Whyte is faster but you don't have to have boxed to know that it doesn't mean Parker should just look at that and be scared and roll over and die.I haven't checked it, but I believe him blind.
The stats are probably correct but his conclusion is PROOF the writer has never boxed for a season. Has never understood styles. He just looked up the stats, saw that Whyte stats was better and thought to himself "YES! YES! This proves AJ would kill Parker, I can't wait to tell everyone on youtube who the winner would be". Sounds stupid right?..even more stupid to believe in his stupid conclusion.
