Spot on, refused worthwhile bouts to hold out for Floyd and it's for precisely that reason that he ended up being forgotten about by the top names.

he could have made a case for a super-fight if he stayed active, beat top fighters, won a title and put in impressive performances

he didn't and his legacy will be forever tarnished for it.

Khan has just responded to Pacquaio's recent remarks:

KHAN RESPONDS TO PACQUIAO COMMENTS

BOLTON (22 January) - Amir Khan would like to address the recent comments given by Manny Pacquiao as to why a fight between them never transpired.

Importantly, Amir would like to make clear that he holds Manny as a fighter in the highest regard but his comments about “middle men” preventing the fight from happening are wholly inaccurate and false.

Amir Khan said: “I have read recent comments by Manny Pacquiao stating that the reason a fight between us never happened was because of ‘middle men’ in my team - this is totally inaccurate and false.

“The only people negotiating on my behalf, as with all my fights, were my father Shah, uncle Taz and lawyer Robert Davis. They dealt directly with Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and adviser Michael Koncz.

“An initial meeting took place last September between Bob Arum and my uncle and lawyer in London. This was at the direct request of Bob Arum. The negotiations went well to the extent that a ‘Heads of Terms’ was signed and sent from my lawyer to Bob Arum.

“My team was told by Bob Arum that it was a choice between either Terence Crawford or myself and dates in April were being explored with the fight to take place in Las Vegas or Qatar.

“Since September of last year my team had been in direct contact with Pacquiao’s team, spoke with them and met them face-to-face, so to state that middle men prevented the fight from happening is not true at all.

“Rather, having seen comments from Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach saying that HBO were not interested in the fight - yet are seemingly happy to broadcast a third fight between Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley - makes clear the contradictions and the fact his team knew a fight between us would be a very dangerous one for him and best avoided.

“Freddie, who has trained us both, knows how our sparring sessions used to go and with me having filled out more now as a welterweight, getting bigger and stronger, makes a fight with Bradley – who Pacquiao in most opinions has beaten twice - a much easier option.

“I want to make the best fights for the fans and it was neither my team nor a lack of desire from my end which prevented a fight with Pacquiao from happening – that rests squarely on Team Pacquiao.”

Hearn vs. Khan vs. Brook going off on twitter.
Khan wants £10m (80/20 split), leaving £2m/£2.5m for Kell.
Hearn says hes offered Khan 60/40 of what I am guessing is a £12m pot. Leaving Khan £7.2 and Kell £4.8m.

who needs who more? What is Kells biggest pot to date?
Khan seems content to leave the money and continue fighting stateside, Kell/Hearn can't seem to get past the Khan fight.
Khan is in the power position.
I also think Kell stops Khan so Khan needs to be compensated there also in my eyes. Kell is paying to take his name.
Kell should take £3m and leave Amir £9m. Still a huge pay day for a fight I think he ultimately wins and his biggest pot to date I would imagine...

Khan still doing a whole heap of talking, but not a lot of actual fighting.

Note to Mr Khan:-

You are 29 years old, therefore you are absolutely bang in the prime of your life.

If you don't start fighting soon, one day you will finally get into the ring & find your body does not work the way you remember: in short, get off your backside & fight someone, preferably with a pulse! :TU:

I think Khan should just fight the winner of either Garcia and Guerrero or Thurman and Porter.

Khan already has the inactivity, Mayweather and Pacman as readymade excuses for his next loss. He can get paid well to be KOd by Garcia first (or Thurman?) and then serve himself up for a winter KO vs Kell Brook. Bad for the ego but his remuneration should ease the pain.

Personally I think he'll choose to ride things out a little longer. Rematch Lamont Peterson or, more likely, fight Jessie Vargas. Top 10 ranked, low power (less than 10 KOs) and coming off a loss. He ticks all the boxes!

It's funny how everyone has a pop at Kell saying he should just ditch the title and fight the best with purse being irrelevent but suddenly for Khan its about being paid right. Right ? £9mill ?????
Let's be honest this fight is about proving who's the best in the UK and £9mill to do that isn't enough ?
Serious question - what has been Khan's biggest pay day to date ?
Add to the mix that Khan thinks this is an easy fight.
So why won't he take it ?
Answers on a postcard.

what has Kells biggest pay day been?
Kell also thinks he can win.
Hearn and Kell have accepted Khan deserves more by offering 60/40. Khan wants 80/20. Now the negotiating can start...

I wonder what Khan's biggest purse has been? The Maidana fight perhaps?

80/20 is absolutely BS if he really wants that he obviously doesn't want to fight him. Brook is the champ I think 60/40 in favour of Khan is wrong as well. Should be 50/50. Khan and his people have the most deluded perception of how important he is.

I don't understand why people get so animated about what other people earn, it's not like either of them are giving it to anyone on here.
Brook has been crying out for this for five years. If someone said to Brook, you can fight Khan and get £1m, does anyone think he would say no? Who else is he going to fight? They didn't even put up enough money to get Rios over. Big summer showdown with Chaves at Bramall Lane? Last summer they talked up Marquez and ended up fighting Gavin.
Khan's people will know that so they are going to ask for the most they can get, as anyone would. Khan knows if this fight doesn't happen he is guaranteed Garcia/Guerrero. Hearn is going to keep on at it because if the fight happens, whatever the split between the boxers, he's getting his cut and he is the promoter.

80/20 is obviously a joke, especially considering Khan is hardly a draw on either side of the Atlantic. I actually don't really think Khan wants the fight to happen - I'm not as sold on Brook as some are, but I think he hits too clean & hard for Khan and would win by stoppage relatively easily.

you think 60/40 in khans favour is wrong, yet both Eddie and Kell are happy to give Khan that.
It shows the power is in Khans court.
As "gobbles" has said, Kell is the champ and his opponents haven't been championship names, Khan on the other hand is the challenger with better names on his resume. Kell is a six figure fighter at the moment, Khan is a seven figure fighter.
I'd split the pot 75/25 Khan £9m and Kell £3m.

After all is said and done I still believe Kell is the favourite for this fight and should simply allow Khan the bigger purse to simply take his name...

Khan isn't a draw and neither is Brook.
Khan however is a recognised name on both sides of the Atlantic, Brook on the other hand...

Has Khan ever in his life drawn a serious big time crowd? Only time I can remember was Barrera, but Khan certainly was not the attraction.

If they are happy with that I suppose it's ok, I just don't think he's that big a name, when Hatton fought in the states he took 20-35 thousand fans with him, what does Khan take? I'd say less than a thousand. I like Khan BTW he's always in good fights, but he seems to think he's in a par with stars like Floyd and Manny, he just isn't.

To be fair, Hatton was a one off. I dont think anybody in the UK would carry the support stateside with them like Hatton did.
As for recognition I think Khan is way bigger than Brook. Your average joe on the street wont know who Brook is.
Khan has 1.67m followers on twitter compared with Brooks 264k...

I've never been one of the khan haters but he's in dream land at the moment it's 5 years since he won a world title fight and kell brook has the belt not him ,khan has wasted his career of late and for those saying brook should take 20% or 1 million why? Khan has never earned anything like the £6,000,000 a 60 -40 split will give him he needs brook just as much as brook needs him and it's by far the biggest fight for khan he wouldn't get that money if he fought Bradley, thuram and Guerrero after each other.....he needs to get rid of whoever is advising him

Exactly he wasted years chasing Manny and Floyd and I doubt they would have paid him that much, he'd be mad to turn down £5m+ he will never earn close to that anywhere else.

Khan does not want the fight.

If he wanted the fight, he'd have taken it by now & bagged himself a world trinket to put on his mantelpiece, but in typical Khan fashion, he'd rather talk than actually fight.

I like Khan, but I will laugh like a Smash Martian if that does happen to him, because it would serve him right.

He really frustrates me the way he is letting him prime pass him by preferring to spend his time on social media whining about fights that he hasn't had. :witzend:

His vanity can't endure another humiliating KO. His best bet at a major retirement payday is Kell Brook but that comes with a possible KO and a laughing Brook/Hearn. I think that image terrifies him.

brook would be more terrified at not getting the fight, there's no other fight out there that gets him even 25% of what he would get for fighting khan.

Brook will easily ko khan too. imagine knowing that and not being able to get the fight that sets you up for life.
