Rocky Marciano----So overated
Rock would`nt be in the top 10 of heavyweight greats,to small, wide open, lucky he never fought a proper fighter, loius would have destroyed rock in his prime ,so would walcott ,as would many others,i think rock if he was about would `nt have been good enough in the 70`s to even get a title shot, probably the best era for heavies.

Hate to agree with something that you powder you bottom with but I agree that Marciano is overrated generally. People are always calling him 'one of the greats' yet I'd rate him below the likes of Foreman, Liston, Frazier, Jeffries... to name just a few who do not get the appreciation that they deserve. It annoys me the way you are not allowed to criticise Marciano, even objectively, ....yet it seems you can say anything about Liston, Frazier, Holmes etc....

Ugh! Wrote it in a hurry. The library comp was closing out on me. Still, no excuse and thanks for the call.Decagon wrote:Decagon is displeased by your use of the singular verb instead of the plural verb.Nero3000 wrote:Boy, there sure is a lot of token provocateurs on this site.....and more than enough intelligent posters that surprisingly take their bait!

not the way he talks about marciano. he clearly attacks him unfairly and doesnt back up any of his comments with facts. its clear he is out to cruelly attack marciano and not question the flaws of his career with objective anaylsis.
o and I disagree with u, i rate marciano over liston, foreman, jeffries and frazier.
Even though we have had our differences regarding Tyson, I agree with you that Marciano is an overated fighter.silkov wrote:Hate to agree with something that you powder you bottom with but I agree that Marciano is overrated generally. marciano was way to small, wide open both sides, and would have been clearly exposed by the early 70`s era of heavies....this is the problem of looking forward or back...lewis the same story...when people say he was the best even can`t remember those legions of topclass heavies early-mid 70`s...i`m not saying lewis would`nt have beat a couple but not all...no chance.
Well I haven't been derogatory about Marcinao at all, but it is a plain fact that Marcinao is overrated while champions like Jeffries, Frazier and Holmes are vastly underrated. You have never come up with an objective argument as to why Marcianos career is more impressive than Fraziers, or jEFFRIES, or Holmes?.... also you contradict yourself when you malign the acheivments of Bob Foster, saying he koed a washed up Dick Tiger, when Tiger was the same age as Jersey Joe Walcott and actually went on to give some good performances after the Foster defeat.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:silkov wrote:Hate to agree with something that you powder you bottom with but I agree that Marciano is overrated generally. In all honesty I cannot see how someone with good boxing knowledge who is unbiased, would rate Marciano over the likes of Liston, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes and I'd put Jeffries there too... these mens records speak for themselves but unfortunately too many are seduced by the aura of the 'undefeated champion' etc ...and reality goes out the window...
