Kovalev - Pascal 2 and post fight interview

Post by reggaereggae »

Just watched the fight. Predictable in many ways; and originally I was not excited about a rematch until the beef kicked off.

Ultimately it was a one sided beatdown. Trainer Roach pulled out Pascal before the 8th I think. The interview with Kovalev was cold but also funny in many ways.... See: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yMwzW5qFn1U

Seems boxing is becoming the new WWE but with real beat downs. I actually quite like these confrontations.

Anyway Bunce criticised Kovalev saying he wasn't classy (not sure how Bunce can criticise anyone for not being classy  )... Well he is a little cold, but so what - sometimes forgiveness and making up is good... But in this case, Sergey stood his ground, was not going to change his mind about Pascal's behaviour, claims and trying to embarrass and create tension with his Trainer. That's his prerogative.

Remember, twice Kovalev offered his glove to Pascal after some kerfuffle and twice it was refused. So pascal it could be argued was the one who lacked class.

Anyway Sergey came from a very poor, tough background (not to mention cold...) and has to support his extended family. So he takes his business very seriously.

Also it was great to watch a whole fight without ad breaks (like Sky, even PPV  ) and hearing the corner work... Which in this instance was very important as Roach was going to pull Pascal out the round before, but Jean talked Freddie into another round.

Now let's get Stevenson - Kovalev on, then ward vs the Winner (Sergey I predict)

Kovalev is a real vicious bastard. The man killed another guy in the ring but it has not slowed him down and he still talks of doing damage, hurting people, punishing them etc. Now everyone talks thoughtless bollox, "I hate that guy, i swear I will fecking kill him if he...." is something that we can all say, but not if we have history of killing someone, now it becomes chilling. We can all gob off with words that we do not mean or taken literally are bad, but we are not adversely judged as naturally we do not think about some words in their literal meaning. That Kovalev still says this, having killed, is very cold.

If he was not a world class boxer, I can picture him as a Russian killer or mob enforcer. I think the guy is a real nasty bad man. Just what I want in a fighter though, this isn't table tennis lol :OhYes:

Typically Russian is Kovalev,it was a domination from the off and Pascal really struggled to shake off Sergey's punches, god knows how he never went down because even Krusher's jabs were having a visable effect,i thought Kovalev should have been credited with the KD in the 1st but its academic now i suppose

Bunce should go see how Kovalev lived when he was growing up, then he might understand why the guy is mean when he wants to be.
Plus Pascal called Kovalev a drug cheat in the build up, I'd want to beat down anyone that said that.

Kovalev basically won this fight with jabbing, a few right hands hurt Pascal, but the main punch was the jab.
Pascal did have the look of a boxer that couldn't pull the trigger anymore.

Could there really be any boxing fans who don't have Kovalev & Golovkin in their top 2 or 3 current fighters to watch? I could watch them all day.

Agreed,Golovkin gets kudos for his technical ability but theres still a lot of people out there who think Kovalev is nothing more than a monster with power but the guy knows how to box

Kovalev has always had a really good jab. I remember doing a 'wtf!' when I saw him drop some southpaw kiddy with a JAB to the liver. Fucken badman.

I personally think Kovalev is more well rounded than Golovkin.

Kovalev is a sinister dude. Has an aura about him. I like Pascal but he was out of order in the build up and obviously pissed Krusher off. As Bunce said, the guy is 'real'. I think he smashes Stevenson. Ward will be an interesting fight.

I loved his chicken impression, though. That did make me laugh. And he is right about that as Adonis Stephenson has wanted absolutely no part of him whatsoever. I loved Kovalev's reaction to Stephenson's pantonmine histrionics. He dealt with him with a contemptious middle finger.

Golovkin, Kovalev, Gonzalez is whichever order you like. Any other nomination is just plain wrong.

Yeah can't really argue with that. I like Terence Crawford too though.

Those are unquestionably my favourite Top 4 to watch at the moment. Can't quite decide who takes the 5th spot though.

Kovalev's jab is a real weapon and he just looks naturally heavy handed, he's not particularly well muscled but he really whacks em in. Pascal is a bit of a dick but is tough and game, he took some big shots and tried his best. I hope Stevenson is next, then Ward or Beterbiev - that would be atomic.

Yeah, his jab is so strong... It's like he steps in without the other guy really noticing and bangs him hard on the end of the nose.

I belive Beterbiev may have stopped him in the amateurs, so like anyone he's not superhuman.... But it's amazing how slim he looks and how hard he hits coupled with his intelligent boxing ability....

Beterbiev beat him by one point (Korobov actually beat him by a wider margin).

After Kovalev beat Clev I suggested that he'd beat everyone at LHW (Ward wasn't there yet), but he's gotten even better since that point. He always had boxing skills and was never the simple, crude banger some claimed he was, but the improvement over the last few years is clear to me.

I'm a big Frampton fan so I'd need to be bias and have him in there.
