No, Rigondeaux would still be ahead, but he's living off the past.

His win over Donaire was almost 3 years ago now and he hasn't done a great deal since then.
It's not been his fault though, he is an excellent boxer who is frozen out.

I would say that it has been his fault.

His managerial/promotional problems are mostly down to him and boring people in the ring is his choice.

Fighting over ten rounds to stay busy is perfectly reasonable.
There is a wealth of historical precedence for such fights.
He'll be stripped of his title if he loses, so he's just making his fight less important.

Rigo is awful at marketing himself. Rigo is a fool.
What major title will he be stripped of? Presumably we're not talking about the WBC International Silver title, as that seems pretty unimportant in the scheme of things (and was fought for over 10 rounds last time anyway). He holds no other title that I know of. His WBO title is long gone (as it was stripped and Donaire now holds it). He holds no WBA title, as he is the WBA "Champion In Recess", which is not a title, just as Vitali Klitschko did not hold a title when he was Champion Emeritus until he came back in 2008. The WBA have said Rigo's next fight must be against the winner of Frampton/Quigg - see http://www.wbanews.com/boxing-news/clar ... t-division. That's how he comes out of recess, and establishes himself again as a title holder (if he wins) or a holder of no titles (if he loses) - he has nothing to defend against Dickens. So can someone explain what title (apart from WBC International Silver) he would even have to put up against Dickens?

The Ring and Lineal titles.
Still makes no sense to me. Changing a fight from a 12 rounder to a 10 rounder makes no difference to whether you can lose the Ring title. Ring policy is that if losing a fight at the championship weight (regardless of distance) can be enough to lose the Ring title - see http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/1726 ... hip-policy , point 1. If the Dickens fight is over 122lbs, then that risk is removed, but that is nothing to do with whether it is a 10 or 12 rounder.

Rigondeaux can lose the title, but can Dickens win it?

The Ring's policy in the link makes no comment on the distance a fight should be over to win the title (rather than for the champion to lose/be stripped of it). However, it would be remarkable if they thought the Ring title could be won (not just lost) over a distance of less than 12 rounds. Let's see what happens on that in the unlikely event that Dickens wins over 10 rounds and both fighters weigh 122 or less. And either way, the risk (i.e. losing the Ring title) is the same for Rigondeaux regardless of the distance of the fight.

So he should fight over 12 rounds then.

Not if he sees it as a mere warm-up for the winner of Quigg-Frampton. It's no different from what plenty of fighters used to do - Duran had 17 non-title fights during his lightweight title reign, so about 3 a year - why should Rigondeaux not have one?

Because he hardly ever fights and he should make the most of it when he does.

His attitude stinks.

I agree with Horse that Rigo is overrated; he's really only had one standout performance, that was 3 years ago, and he's had problems with fairly mediocre opposition. Dickens fits right in with his last few opponents, though he may well be even worse.

As for the talk of it just being a stay busy fight or a warm-up, the guy has had 16 fights in 7 years. He's getting up their in age for a boxer at his weight and I think he should be moving far more quickly.

Fair points - think most people want him to fight more regularly and be more entertaining when he does - but neither are relevant to whether he fights over 10 or 12.

It brings more prestige and media attention to the fight. It would help his cause of getting the Frampton vs Quigg winner, the loser or any other big fights.

He really is his own worst enemy with his awful career decisions.

It would have been more horrendous over 12 rounds.
Let him fight a couple of 10 rounders until he has got his fitness back.

Will Jazza beating Rigo be the second biggest surprise in British Boxing history?

Will it leapfrog Turpin defeating SRR? Surpass Honey beating Curry? Eclipse Fury taking Klitchko?

Obviously it'll never make #1 ... What'll ever dislodge Frank becoming Kellie.

Rigo was dull as hell last time out against Francisco, awful watch,im expecting a big effort from Dickens in front of his own fans and against such a great fighter,Jazza going to need to set a frantic pace, make Rigo uncomfortable at all times and hopefully he can outwork him to a decision

I can't stand watching Rigo. I'd rather shit down my own throat to be honest. I'll be glad when he retires.

He'll be way too good for Jazza though.

I'm going to this event and looking forward to seeing Rigo in the flesh - I reckon it'll be a totally different experience from seeing him on tv (I hope so anyway  ).

He was told many times by HBO to start turning it up instead of being horrific to watch but he continued to stink out the joint and is now essentially banned from US tv. World class at stinking out a joint is Rigondeaux.
