Considering what options were available, this is actually a pretty decent fight. Better than Dimitrenko atleast, that's for sure.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Well that's a nice surprise. Pretty decent opponent all things considered.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
I think that was just a bad style matchup for Thompson as much as anything though. Scott adopted a very negative game plan and basically moved constantly throughout the fight using his decent foot speed and Thompson's old ass couldnt keep up/catch up aside from the one knockdown. Ortiz on the other hand is a more stationary type target in that he doesnt adopt a whole lot of movement like that. I think it will actually be a harder fight for Ortiz than people think. Ortiz needs to be winning it though if he's ever going to do anything in the sport, especially being at an advanced age for a professional athlete.Mr Icaman wrote:Will be a total mismatch.

Considering the options available (which were basically F all by and large) I think it's a pretty decent fight. Thompson cant hang with guys that are gonna move a lot but he can give guys who dont do that a competitive fight.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Thompson probably still represents Ortiz's second best opponent, even though he's clearly past-it. Not a match-up to complain about, but not much of a statement win. I anticipate Ortiz winning this easily enough.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Thompson is done. That Scott fight was horrible.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
At least Thompson will make an honest attempt at winning the fight. He will fail but it's better than an opponent who came for the paycheck and isn't going to bother trying to pull off an upset.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
TT gets KO'd. Early.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
At least Ortiz is staying busy.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
I love Tony... i'd rather see Dimitrenko getting knocked out. This is sh*t...
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Old Tony is past his expiry date but this is a very good last minute opponent to keep Ortiz busy.
He is as slow as syrup but can con younger inexperienced fighters into fighting at his pace similar to how Bhop could but I can't see it working this time.
I like Tony but he's had 2 Klitschko fights, the Price rematch must have been good money and hopefully he drove a hard bargain for this one being a rare available name.
What I'm saying is we should try not to feel too sorry for him when King Kong fustigates him in 3 or 4 rounds and I hope he will be able to retire rather than just be a punch bag which might be all he is good for after this.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Better opponent than Dimitrenko, not that that is saying much.
Ortiz should win comfortably, so long as he doesn't take his eye off the ball and get distracted by the potential big fights out there after this, you underestimate Thompson at your peril.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
I wouldn't be surprised if Thompson is pretty much helping Ortiz out, Ortiz will be avoided by all the good boxers that are in position for a belt. Thompson knows he's to old to come in that position again, especially after his last fight. Ortiz got the skills to do it and Thompson is still worth quite some points for Ortiz to gain ranks. With a bit of luck people soon can't go around Ortiz any more, like they can now.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Yes his camp's offers will stop at the end if this match happens. Hope so it will be not just like Ortiz vs Dimitrenkolefty wrote:http://www.BS.com/luis-ortiz-t ... bo--101138

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Good match-up for Ortiz at his stage of his career. He should win handily. If he doesn't stop TT or win a lop-sided decision his credibility will be in doubt.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
Wow. Exciting matchup. A 36 year old against a 44 year old. I remember a time when boxers this old would be thinking of retiring. Now they're top contenders. What a mess.
Re: Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson
I think Ortiz is top 5 in the heavyweight scene. (even though I only watched him once) Thompson is game enough to fight him, so I give him credit for that. Thompson will get his ass handed to him I think. Ortiz's days are numbered, so I hope he gets big fights soon.
