Time Keeper Peter McCann

Post by Johns »

It is with regret that he has felt the need to resign after thirty years as a Time Keeper with the Board.
As an official he has a fine reputation and is a man of high integrity

What is the age limit for Referees in Britain? Mickey Van had to wrap officiating at British shows but you still see him refereeing in Ireland?

Shame his service has come to a bitter conclusion. I don't know anything about the ten bell incident and aftermath other than what he's written himself (quoted on the link above), so I can't comment on the rights and wrongs of it. Whatever the full facts are, I wish him a happy retirement.

It would be nice if some of those fine gentleman of the Southern Area came on this forum and gave an explanation as to their motivation to call Peter unjustly to one of their hearings under Rule 25.

What happened is that Peter rung 10 bells for his recently deceased younger brother, Patrick, a former pro and Southern Area Champion.

Peter has done this many a time and even did it for the current General Secretary's father when he died.

When Peter did it for his brother he was spoken to by a Board Official about this, when not a word was said when Peter did it for other individuals.

Would they say taking to social media to vent his frustrations could constitute to reg 25? Just thinking out loud.

The ten bell thing is supposed to resonate. I can see an argument that doing it for all and sundry lessens that resonance - similar to how 'RIP threads/tweets/topics' have lost a lot of their value over the years. It is difficult to decide who, if anyone, warrants plaudits above and beyond the grief of family and friends.

You are obviously well informed.

Would you care to elucidate on your theory, or not.

Well I was wandering if Peter was called to the Area Council meeting for the improtu 10 bells and subsiquent spat with a Board official or was it the fact he vented his frustrations via social media about the matter after? Perhaps you or someone could elaborate? For what it's worth I've never heard a bad word about Peter and he seems a consumate professional..

You are the only one who mentioned social media. You obviously know more than you are letting on.

I don't think most people spend massive amounts of time looking chapter and verse through Internet sites like yourself.

As it is possible you do, what was it on social media that was said that was of concern.

I didn't have to trawl through the internet. That link was posted in this very thread on the 8th post down if you care to look. Did you miss it? I have no idea what Peter said on Facebook. Perhaps you should ask the Board what concerned them?????
