Kevin Mitchell Retired
Kevin Mitchell Retired
Kevin Mitchell has withdrawn from his European title bout and announced he is retiring from boxing with immediate effect.
Talented fighter and such a shame he never became World Champion. Good luck for the future Kevin!

Good luck Kev!
Re: Kevin Mitchell Retired
It seems like a strange time to retire when Britain has two world champions at the weight.
Why retire instead of having more time to recover after two recent defeats?
It seems like a rushed decision.

He may have realised in training that he just didn't have it at the necessary level?
I hope he enjoys his retirement and is content with his achievements, I enjoyed watching him box and he put on some excellent displays of Boxing and countering. For how intense he was in the ring apparently he is a really pleasant fellow out of the ring.

Always enjoyed watching him box, never met him out the ring so I can't comment on that.
His efforts versus Murray (loveloveloveloved that fight to tiny pieces), Prescott & the incredibly brave stand against Linares outweigh his couple of WBO-related capitulations in my mind, & also underline just how erratic & enjoyable he was to watch.
Good luck out there Kev, & keep your nose clean.

Wish him all the best but he was overrated. Sky were desperate for him to become a World Champ and he got way more plaudits and exposure than he ever earned - the piece on Sky Sports website today is like he was an all time British great. I've said this before, but if he was from anywhere else other than the East End he wouldn't have had half the hype he had. Lazy journalism and London centric thinking helped him massively.
Re: Kevin Mitchell Retired
He's been stopped twice in the last 9 months. He's not likely to be overly enthusiastic in the gym or close to his best.palooka wrote:He may have realised in training that he just didn't have it at the necessary level?
That might come back later. No need to retire over it.
He shouldn't have been coming back so soon after those losses anyway.

Does his speech seem a bit affected in that interview? It must be hard to walk away though, he had a massive fan base.
Re: Kevin Mitchell Retired
Best of luck to him.
I'm fairly certain he'll be back before the end of 2016. But either way I hope he has a happy & healthy life.

Fair play to him. Kind of thought this would be coming.
Hugely overrated as a fighter, but was rarely in a boring fight. Too dangerous a sport if your heart's not in it fully.

Re: Kevin Mitchell Retired
Best of luck Kevin. Going by that interview he seems to have lost his spark so I'm glad he's had the sense to retire. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back after a long lay off to be honest. Hopefully if he does decide to come back after a good rest it's because he's feeling refreshed and feels he has something to offer and not just for the money. In the meantime I wish him all the best.

He signed a big money deal with FW based largely on his junior amateur career and as a result was able to be a full time boxer with top matchmaking and more opportunities than most.
Re: Kevin Mitchell Retired
Couldn't agree more. He was a lot better than European, but didn't quite have enough for the World title.Happy Slapper wrote:Wish him all the best but he was overrated. I struggled to understand what he was saying through most of that.

In that IFL interview he said Sims told him when he was 15 he wouldn't work with Kev if he signed with Frank, does anyone know why Sims wont work with his fighters? I know he's Eddie's best mate now but back then there must of been another reason.

Kev was in a few cracking scraps but ultimately came up short, shame really as he was a talented boxer.
