Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
This is something that intrigues me to see on Fighters Records. A guy that had either a Journeyman or in some cases just a straight up bad Record. Who has solid, respectable sometimes even excellent results on his record.
A few that come to mind as an example of what I'm talking about.
David Jaco: Has a 24-25-1 record. Lost to almost every significant opponent he faced...usually by KO, but holds a TKO victory over a Young, unbeaten "Razor" Ruddock
http://boxrec.com/boxer/1534
Lionel Butler: Fought several name fighters, lost to almost all of 'em, but has a KO 1 victory over Tony Tubbs, and TKO 3 victory over James "Bonecrusher" Smith
http://boxrec.com/boxer/1641
Louis Monaco: Complete shit record on paper. 16-39-5...but of those 16 wins he's beaten known fighters like Peter McNeeley, Kevin McBride and most notably Michael Dokes. He also knocked out Buster Douglas once, but unfortunately for him it was immediately after the bell rang to end the 1st round so he was Disqualified. I don't believe he threw the punch with the intention of fouling though.

What else you guys got? I'll post more as I come across 'em.

Zack Page: Record of 21-45-2...but 3 of those wins are over unbeaten fighters, and 2 more are over Kevin McBride and Lou Del Valle.

Sam Reese: Record of 22-16-4...but holds wins over Enrique Ornelas, Dallas Vargas (14-0 at the time of losing to Reese), and Aneudi Santos (10-0 at the time of losing to Reese)

Oh and how can you not love this one?
Shawn McLean: 3-4 entering his fight with 38-0 Faruq Saleem. Stops him in the 4th. Only had one more fight after that which he lost.

Here's another good one
Agustin Silva: 12-24-2 (5 KO wins)...one of those 5 KO wins. A 1st round TKO of the then unbeaten, 9-0 Kassim Ouma.

- Excellent thread. Toothless Neon Leon whooping the doggy biscuits out of The Greatest.
According to prevalent lard ass boxrec logic, the 26-17-3, 9 KO losses should propel Leon at least at 50% parity with Ali and the rest of the top 50 heavies in the world.
Boxrec history experts, you gotta luv em for comedy value if not for nothing else.

Still active I believe, but I've got to mention Darnell Boone....23-22 but with many wins over prospects, a KO of Adonis Stevenson, a split decision loss to Kovalev, and a knockdown of Ward.
Dashon Johnson may be the next Boone.

Yes Darnell Boone has certainly had a commendable career for a guy with a record like hiscrusader wrote:Still active I believe, but I've got to mention Darnell Boone....23-22 but with many wins over prospects, a KO of Adonis Stevenson, a split decision loss to Kovalev, and a knockdown of Ward.

You can't have a list without mentioning big punching and granite chinned heavyweight Ross Purity. He ended with a 31 (27 KOs)-20-3 record but drew with Tommy Morrison (dropped him twice), stopped former prospect Jorge Luis Gonzalez in 7, knocked out Joe Hipp and most famous for holding a win over Wladimir Klitschko. Lost on points to fighters such as Kirk Johnson, Hasim Rahman, Corrie Sanders, Larry Donald, Chris Byrd and Eddie Chambers.
Another favourite of mine is middleweight Sanderline Williams. He ended with a 24-15-1 record but was one tough dude, going the distance with fighters such as Herol Graham, Dwight Davison, Iran Barkley, Frank Tate (split decision), Don Lee, Merqui Sosa, Nigel Benn (split decision), Reggie Johnson, Ron Essett (split decision), Gerald McClellan and Joe Lipsey. He also got a draw against James Toney and lost on points in the rematch. He was only stopped once in his career by Lindell Holmes. Interestingly Herol Graham rates Williams as the strongest (physically) he ever fought.

Yes good choice, and I corrected your mistake on Ross Purrity. It was Wladimir he beat.Controversial wrote:You can't have a list without mentioning big punching and granite chinned heavyweight Ross Purity. Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Emanuel Augustus. The official record is 38-34-6, yet he scored a couple of decent upsets, fight of the year, and was the toughest opponent of Floyd.
Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Darnell Boone 23-22-4 he's beat Adonis Stevenson,Willie Monroe, first fight with kovalev lost a Sd.he's also knocked Andre ward down.
Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
I doubt he was actually the toughest opponent for Floyd considering that Floyd stopped him, but I know Floyd likes to say that. But yes he was in the 2001 Fight of the Year with Micky Ward, and has quite a few noteworthy wins.gregor wrote:Emanuel Augustus. Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Again Jesse Burnett. Top fighter.
Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Yeah he really faced a murderers row of fighters in his time, and held his own in most of those fights from the looks of it. Has some great wins over Tony Mundine 2x, Victor Galindez and Yaqui Lopez.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Again Jesse Burnett. Top fighter.
Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Orlando Sailido beat Juan Manuel Lopez twice song other excellent boxers with very good records.
Re: Fighters with Poor Records, but Good Results
Yeah he really turned it around. He started his career losing quite often, but of course has turned into a Legit contender now, and has held a few titles as well.palooka wrote:Orlando Sailido beat Juan Manuel Lopez twice song other excellent boxers with very good records.
I remember in Ring Magazine when Orlando Salido had just gotten a win on ESPN's FNF the Ring's comments about it was "Keep laughing at his record, he'll keep beating guys up"
His record at that time was just like 18-10 or 19-10 or something.

He also got screwed by the judges many times. He beat conteh so thoroughly that the hometown crowd booed the decision. The spinks decision is in the running for the worst ever. The Revival wrote:Yeah he really faced a murderers row of fighters in his time, and held his own in most of those fights from the looks of it. I'll have to look up some of his fights on Youtube. Burnett was before my time, and I never got to see him fight but I'd like to given your praise of him.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He also got screwed by the judges many times.
