Froch is surely taking the piss now

Post by dookus »

Former world champion Carl Froch says he will not reconsider his decision to retire from boxing, but hopes to build a career in acting instead.

Froch told BBC Radio 5 live's Friday Sports Panel that he is set to play "wing man" to Hollywood actor Jason Statham in a three-part crime series.

The four-time world super-middleweight champion says he is undergoing acting lessons to prepare for the role.

"I'm dipping my toe in the water for a bit of acting," the 38-year-old said.

"I've just been reading the script this morning, so it may come to fruition or it may not.

"It's crime in London, it's all going off and there's terrorists going off, and Jason's tackling it through the Metropolitan Police.
...
But as a retired athlete I still look at the super-middleweight division and think: 'James DeGale - I can beat him. George Groves - I beat him at Wembley in front of 80,000 people.

He hasn't been mentioned in a while, personally I'd forgotten where it was and how many were there.

Good for him

However, if I remember rightly, he's far from a natural in front of the cameras

He's got a dry sense of humour, I didn't really take to him before - I think I took him too literally, he's a wind up merchant extraordinare.

George Groves set to play the bad guy in the series, fight scenes with Statham whilst Carl stares vacantly into the camera...

Agree completely. A lot is tongue in cheek. I don't think he gives a rats anus about anyone, as long as he is in on the joke.

He's joking. He's being a bit premature with this acting gig though. He's only been given the script, not the job, right? One doeen't always follow the other. Hope he dies get it though, but I won't watch. Statham doesn't do the sort of stuff I'm into (kelly brook aside).

I think he's really funny and obviously on the wind up but you can see how people would miss the joke, especially our cousins across the pond

He definitely started saying it more often after it had already become a bit of a running joke so he's clearly in on the fun; but yeah there's probably a few people who still reckon he's obsessed with that night

He could remake Way of the Dragon, instead of Bruce Lee fighting Chuck Norris in the Colosseum, Carl fights George Groves in a deserted Wembley Stadium.

He's like a sketch show character away from the ring. Boxings David Brent. He blows his own trumpet a lot but most of us would if we'd achieved what he has. He can be quite self deprecating as well which is refreshing.

I agree. I saw a programme (I think Sky) which was an hour or so about Froch's life... And he said some quite quirky and funny stuff..... And this was prior to him knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley

I can put up with him, but then he gives it the old "when my fist exploded on the jaw section of George Groves cranium" etc. it does get annoying when you have heard it a dozen times.

I read his book last year. I got it as a present as my default gift is something boxing related and I thought 'this will be a bore' but it was a good read surprisingly. Made me look at him in a different light although I was always a fan (post Calzaghe).
