Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
In his recent statement, GGG said about Mayweather that "I don’t like his style, [but no one] ever beat him". So my question is simple that is this a fully fair statement for Mayweather? Because at the same time you give regard to someone but at the same moment you dislike him.
Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
It's a fair statement.
And not really disrespectful at all.
If I am lil g tho, I try to stay away from this kind of thing, at least til after I beat an elite guy...

Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
I think it was meant as a knock against Floyd. Like when a girl says to her friend "I wouldn't be caught dead in that dress but it looks really nice on you though". I think that is how it was meant to sound. But it's not exactly shocking to see or hear.
Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
All he seemed to be inferring was that Floyd doesn't exactly have an exciting style which many would agree with. I actually like his defensive mastery and elusiveness but I think GGG is a much more exciting fighter to watch. Not sure any disrespect was meant.

I can't see any disrespect there. If Roman Gonzalez said the same about Amnat Ruenroeng I'm sure we'd agree with him...

No issues with what Golovkin has said.
He is entitled to his opinion & he's not generally a disrespectful guy at all.

GGG should keep hismouth shut until at least beat someone higher than a B level.

Yet all you ever beat was your own tiny dick and it's Z level.

Sounds very fair to me. It's like saying, Anton Scalia was a very bright Justice and a nice guy, but I didn't like his judicial philosophy. Makes perfect sense to me.

You nailed it. GGG is by far the more exciting fighter.SteveDow wrote:All he seemed to be inferring was that Floyd doesn't exactly have an exciting style which many would agree with. But Floyd was damn near unbeatable. No disrespect intended in my opinion. GGG just stating his opinion.

Haha, yeah apparently your not allowed to have an opinion unless you have beaten an elite boxer so lets all stop posting.Impractical Poster wrote:lol.... All he said was he didn't like his style. The point is that it's easy to sit back and be critical of one's style when you are comparing yourself (GGG's style to Floyd's) when you are facing bums and say you don't like it but let's see how well Golovkin does with his style when he actually faces some Elite level competition.
Floyd beat the crap out of bums too, look at his style vs Gatti, what's not to like about that? Against the elites Floyd just like any other fighter has to err on the side of caution because if you make the kind of mistakes you can get away with facing bums then you can get ktfo.
So yes, you're right; he does have a right to his own opinion but it doesn't mean that he should make one especially since all he's faced are bums.

So, now all he's faced are bums? I'd say his recent opposition is a lot better than Berto. Why didn't Floyd go all out on Berto and get a KO?Undefeated49-0 wrote:Larrylefthook wrote:Haha, yeah apparently your not allowed to have an opinion unless you have beaten an elite boxer so lets all stop posting.]

Add in B level Guerrero who hasn't won a world title above super featherweight....Impractical Poster wrote:So, now all he's faced are bums? I'd say his recent opposition is a lot better than Berto. Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
I don't see anything wrong with what he said. He is entitled to his opinion and it's not exactly like his opinion was completely out of left field since a ton of boxing fans would likely agree, right or wrong.
Having said that, I think saying what he said was dumb. What does it get him? Floyd is retired and a comeback fight against GGG is insanely unlikely. Why take a shot at him? I think he would have been wise to be more magnanimous and give a great fighter his due. I don't see how this does anything for him, really.

I don't see any posts from that lame @$$ Troll (Impractical Butthole) so I have no idea what he's saying nor do I care.Larrylefthook wrote:Add in B level Guerrero who hasn't won a world title above super featherweight....
Remind us of how many A level fighters GGG has or how many elites he's faced; Floyd has faced many. This isn't even a comparison, GGG is nowhere in Mayweather's league.
Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
I think a lot of people would say they don't really enjoy watching Mayweather's fights and aren't entertained by them, but nobody in their right mind can argue how effective he is. I didn't think there was anything out of line about GGG's statement.
Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
I don't think he was taking a shot at him, at least just based on that statement.jas80s wrote:I don't see anything wrong with what he said. Re: Is GGG statement fair for Mayweather?
"I don't like his style" is kind of unnecessary to me and I believe there is an implication in there that there is something less than about the way in which he fights. Did he seriously denigrate him? Of course not, but I don't think the statement was particularly complimentary...crusader wrote:I don't think he was taking a shot at him, at least just based on that statement.jas80s wrote:I don't see anything wrong with what he said. But as I said, nothing wrong with it, I just don't see the point in saying it. He was almost certainly asked a direct question and he said what he thought, absolutely nothing wrong with it. Mine is more of a PR point...
