WBC Emeritus Champion

Post by danundisputed »

Hi Boxingfans!

The WBC is confusing me! Emeritus, Silver, Diamond champion?
I'm searching for a list of all WBC Emeritus Champions in the heavyweight divison.
Vitali Klitschko and I think Lennox Lewis are Emeritus champs, who else?
When did they get the Emeritus status? What I know is that it's a lifetime status and gives them the chance to fight the current WBC champ in case of a comeback! Am I right?

Diamond Champion: As far as I know there wasn't a Diamond championship fight in the heavyweight divison yet!?

I would appreciate your assistance!

Thanks a lot

Emeritus means retired as champ. They get the option to fight current WBC champ if they return. I'm not sure if it's given to fighters who'd vacated. I assume not.

I think you're right. Only Vitali and Lewis were given emeritus status.

I think Holmes and Tyson (second reign) vacated. Bowe, Ali and Spinks were stripped. All others lost titles.

Believe me you aren't the only one who is confused by the unending stream of ludicrous titles in boxing.

As others have said, Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko have been the only two WBC Emeritus heavyweight champions.
There has never been a WBC 'Diamond' heavyweight title fight.
As far as I know Muhammad Ali was the only heavyweight recipient of a WBC 'Diamond' belt - he was presented with it in December 2012 at the annual WBC convention in Cancun, Mexico.

Thanks for your replies!

I've done some research and discovered as followed but I still have questions

DIAMOND
Ok Ali was awarded the Diamond belt, as a honorary title cause of course he never fought for it cause it didn't exist.
And yes there was no Diamond title fight @ heavyweight!

EMERITUS
V. Klitschko was Emeritus champ from 2005-2008 & since 2013 he's Emeritus
Lennox Lewis is Emeritus champ - My question: When did he receive his Emeritus status? I couldn't find any article on the net
Roy Jones Jr. is Emeritus champ - My question: When did he receive his Emeritus status? I couldn't find any article on the net

SUPREME
Floyd Mayweather Jr. was awarded the Supreme champion title at the 51st WBC convention, I guess that's a honorary title
My questions: Is there a Supreme championship belt? There was no Supreme championship fight in any division, right?

WBC SILVER INTERIM
I've read on wikipedia that the WBC now also has a Silver Interim title - Imagine!
My questions: Is there a Silver Interim championship belt? There was no Silver Interime championship fight in any division, right?

I'm looking forward to your answers
Thanks a lot

Floyd was named champion Emeritus in November 2015 after he retired (again). He's probably gonna get another belt from WBC for the most false retirements.

Roy Jones vacated the WBC light heavyweight title to fight John Ruiz at Heavyweight. Therefore, wouldn't be champion Emiritus. Surpringly, he only held IBF strap at 168. Calzaghe also vacated at 168 to fight at Light Heavyweight.

Hi again

After I discovered that the WBC also recognizes Interim Silver champions, I've seen that there is a new Silver belt design.
The old design had a silver plate and said World Champion, on the WBC page I've seen that now it says Silver Champion
http://wbcboxing.com/wbceng/component/c ... les-silver
So I'm searching for a photo of the new WBC Silver belt which says Silver Champion.
If anybody got this pic please be so kind and post it or send it to my email

Thanks a lot
