I have to think that when this one goes down, Joshua catches up to Martin.

And sooner rather than later.

Martin is shit and would get destroyed by Joshua. Undefeated is only picking him because he is American.

If he is sheet and he may be, he should fight Joshua for the $$$.

He shouldn't take a chance against a Arreola or Breazeale; he may lose.

Good point, and Joshua gets an easy entry into the top ten.

Exactly. Joshua would have a strap, that he could defend against the likes of Breazeale and Arreola, building himself up for the tougher guys down the road like Fury and Parker.

That's some hubris you've got going on man.

McGuigans concerns are with AJ needing to defend against guys he may not be ready for, not Charles Martin.

I'm sick of all these barely skilled giraffes in boxing trunks who are passed off as world-class fighters. If Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield were just coming up now they'd wipe the floor with these failed basketball players.

This fight is good for boxing.

A mediocre beltholder will lose his title to a talented world-class boxer.

The best fighters should have the belts.

Newsflash, Tyson was passed off as World Class too even though he had a longer list of bums he was KOing than Wilder or Martin.

Tyson also wracked up 23 wins (same as Charles Martin sans the draw with fat Alvaro Morales) in less than TWO years. It's taken Prince Charles twice that long.

Would you care to compare Wilder and Tysons resume through 36?

Tyson didn't really fight a rough and tumble crew on his way to the title, but he was so young and did it so quickly he proved his class.

Though "titlists" the verdict is still out on Martin and (to a point) Wilder.

First of all, huge respect to Charles Martin. He could have pulled Dion and fought cherries for couple of defenses. Instead, he is trying to prove himself. For that reason alone, that he actually has balls, I will reevaluate my initial pick. It is now AJ stoppage withing 6 rather then 3 rounds. Martin is just too unrefined as a boxer to stand a chance against Joshua. And the way he keeps his chin up it will get dented as soon as AJ detonates. Now, Joshua isn't exactly a technical marvel, far from it. But his fundamentals are much more solid then martin's. Essentially a better, faster jab. Better accuracy. Better footwork. And he is a physical jaganath. Anthony Joshua is the next IBF world HW champion!

After this IBF will probably let Joshua have one defense, some step up fight after which he will be ready for Takam. Then Glazkov. And after that it is the deep end, the world level.

Joshua is around a 7-1 favorite. Seems pretty high to me, considering both guys have question marks.

Glad you think so. After all I was thinking about it the whole time since it was announced yesterday. :OhYes:

Watching clips of both of them one thing that strikes me is that they both put their shots together relatively well. I'd say Martin's hands are a bit faster (I really don't know why so many think Joshua has good hand speed!), but he looks even stiffer on his legs than Joshua, is sloppier from a technical standpoint, and despite having a fancy KO ratio I doubt that he can hang with AJ in the power or physical strength departments. IMO AJ should take this by stoppage without facing major problems, though I don't think Martin is as bad as some believe.

My own message, yes. Many posters who frequent this section don't frequent the British and Irish section, and hence wouldn't see what I wrote there.

He's a good southpaw something that Joshua not faced
Joshua did win his Olympic gold medal against southpaw HW Roberto Cammarelle in the final, if no one has mentioned it yet.

But really, if you just look at the fights:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAucHqlSS2w
Charles Martin (13-1-0 with 10KO at the time) VS Glendy Hernandes (10-0 with 6 KO's)

And you compare that handspeed to Anthony Joshua's first pro fight ever against 8-0 Emanuele Leo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu4X443-NEE
Just check the 99% domination, at 5:07/08 Emanuele Leo managed to touch his face once and perhaps he also succeed doing it around 5:42 as well, but that's really it, two touches in the whole fight.
If you really are going to claim that it's Charles Martin who got the fastest hands then I wonder what you're looking at.
It's not even a close match, I expect an absolute domination by Anthony Joshua in early april.

How often their opponents landed is hardly a good measure of hand speed.

I've watched plenty of their bouts and AJ's hand speed is about average, with Martin having a slight edge IMO. I don't at all get what people are seeing when they suggest that AJ is impressively fast; hugely powerful, sure, but his speed in the ring is nothing special.
