Errol Spence jr. vs Chris Algieri - good fight?

Post by ElJefe »

Dan Rafael is reporting that Errol Spence jr. is likely to face Chris Algieri in April (http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post ... d-in-april).

What do people make of this fight?

Many see Spence as one of best prospects in boxing. Meanwhile Algieri has mixed in better class, with a win over Provodnikov, a one sided loss to Pacquiao and another loss in a competitive fight with Khan. Algieri will be Spence's first opponent with world title fight experience, how does the fight go?

Yes, a good test for Spence. If it wasn't under PBC, I would even say that chances are about even.

Good fight for Spence. Algieri is decent stepping stone boxer.

Spence needs more fights like this before becoming Brook's mandatory.

Fair play to Algeri, seems to fear no one and is willing to fight all the big names. However this does seem a test to far and I fancy Spence by late TKO. good fight!

Looking forward to this one, should be a good fight. As others have said, it will be good to see how Spence handles the slight step up in class. He looks like a real talent, so it would be good to see a professional performance. If he can do something that Prov, Pac, and Khan couldn't do, then that would be a big statement for him.

I thought I read a while back that Algieri turned this fight down? Anyway, good fight. CA has a good chin so we will find out how good. Spence has a good body attack also among other attributes. If Spence can stop him I will be impressed. There must be a reason why Khan, Thurman, and other "top guys" want no part of Spence.

Good fight this.
Great step up fight for Spence and shows how Algieri will fight anyone.
I predict the ref saving Algieri around the 9th.

Kahn Pacman and now Spence. That is a better fighting resume of opponents than any other current active fighter at 147.

I wouldn't call it a good fight but it is a reasonable step up for spence. Still not a step up to a guy at his level though.

Perfect fight for Spence Jr, going in with a former world champ is the right step in his career and one I expect him to win well personally

Spence is going to beat the brakes off of Algieri, I don't think this fight will be competitive at all. Spence KO'd not TKO'd but KO'd Broner and is in beast mode looking to make a name for himself so that he can force those who are avoiding him to get in the ring with him.

This young man is definitely the future of the division and will be a viable threat to any fighter from WW to MW.

But he didn't stay down.

Algieri has been in with tougher, faster and greater boxers than Spence. This is a good test for Errol that he should pass impressively. But Algieri is not an easy out.

got dropped early v provo but nobody can deny he got up and completely outworked provo.
i wouldn't say he has a great chin but he is resilient after he gets hurt. keep in mind those
two opponents are considered among the harder hitters in the division, with manny being more
of a cumulative damage guy and provo more of a one or two punch at a time guy. khan has
a decent punch for the weight also and algieri was very aggressive that whole fight and just got
outskilled. spence should have the punch to hurt algieri as much as manny and provo did, but
also the skills to prevent algieri from outworking him. if algieri tries to come forward and feels
spence dig into the body hard early, algieri's workrate will come way down and i see spence just
stalking him after that for however long it lasts.

So? Khan kept getting up against Danny Garcia and was on his feet when the ref waved it off but he has an awful chin. Its the recovery power that got him back up not his chin. If he had a good chin he wouldn't have been down 7/8 times.

He's been in with The Provoglodyte, Pac and Khan without being stopped. That suggests that he has at minimum a decent beard.
