Boxers: name who decked you; who stopped you?
When did the fights happen? Should the "stop" been allowed to continue?

Re: Boxers: name who decked you; who stopped you?
I lost three times on RSC or ret. The first happened at the 1/2 f. US Europe championship Ramstein Germany RSC-1 (&!"down"). Opp: Robert Wallace.
2 Nd one was different story..at Naesteved, Denmark/ on tour with BK Box Club. Faced the no.4 rated light welterweight in Denmark a.t.t.,Gunnar Frandsen. He stepped-up to 147lb. for this.
I decked Gunnar in r.1 right at-the-beginning. "Pole-axed" him hurt him and second-shot he went down. But.. he is "very tough" guy and came back in second r.
r.3, what I remember was..we had under one minute left and I was "pouring it on". Missing shots a lot but being aggressive and I have him against ropes. Ref pulls me to him, takes me to my team now standing up at center of ropes (center between our corner, and a neutral corner..). My eye had puffed up. My German corner, Helmut, & Wilfred are now telling me about how I'm "not a pro". They didn't want me scared..so...they stopped it. May of been 25 seconds left to go.
My third "stop" loss was my fault. Happened in the New England USA/ABF 156, of..'84 maybe. [sprained my ankle very badly in that one] [Brian Powers, later a good pro..was present at that show..]
& the four (4) times I am "down" as amateur were 1) Vs Wallace. 2) In Germany for the Rheinland championships. 156lbs. Vs Rudiger Held. He hurt me at one point in first r. but..I think he never knows it. End of the r. & right at the bell he puts me on the canvas in about the middle of the ring. I wasn't hurt, & the ref helps me to my feet.
r.2 I came out "really bent" and was on fire. Fought the best r. of my life. Blitzed Held along the ropes. Put volly upon volly on him. Then, exactly at the bell a second time, their is a knock-down..but..it's him now. I had him ring center and "spun-him-right down".
r.3 was anti-climatic and I lost a split decision.
I went into this tournament as welterweight but...here I am forced to move-up one weight. Turns out..I stay the whole rest of my career at-the-weight. 3)John DeCastro put me down in first r. of out Western New England final of '83 at Holyoke, MA. This was our second meeting. Really close fight - like a "draw"/but they give it to me close decision. 4) that USA/ABF. "down" in 1 st r. (I should STILL BE "pissed" for losing that fight! Haa haa!)
The pro is something else. Stopped 3X in 12 matches. & "down" six times (2 of the 3 "stops").
All in all, the match at Naesteved, my pro debut.. and that third "stop", I thought could have easy gone forward. Wasn't even "buzzed".

Sounds like you need to work on your defence!
Me? 70 bouts, never put down in sparring or competition. Stopped twice on cuts, once on disqualification.

fairplay for admitting your shortcomings. keep at it and in sparring focus more of defense than offense

Thanks! I'm decent with defense too! Fought a bit heavy always (well..not always but majority of the time). The poster one up has "fabulous" stat on that! It is SOOOOO Rare! I'm thinking that my standing is NOT BAD!Oiky wrote:fairplay for admitting your shortcomings. keep at it and in sparring focus more of defense than offense

You couldn't elaborate? Yeah it's pretty rare what you are saying! & you know this! Everyone different I guess! I was 24 (one "walkover counted") (11)-15(3)-1 amateur.Tarquin Tarpaulin IV wrote:Sounds like you need to work on your defence!

Hit the deck 5X sparring (5th X was a "fluke", though!)
Yeah I have one friend did what you did and more. Fough for lh title in '96. 57(??)-13(0) amateur and, pro about 40 bouts and was "stopped" 1x ("totally out-classed",)
My pro....I'm 'W' truly. Fought 13X [* = put-down; jj = "stopped"]
sm-jj m m sm-* &jj jm m lh-* m-** m sm m-* & jj m-* m = 13 [lines 1, 4 & 10 come to top-4 ratings I count only the first &major-4]
Congratulations on your accomplishments! How could I look at your record? What weight were you? Your retired, right?
What do you think of a fighter such as Dicky Eklund?
Danny Blake?
What ever do you take-up after your boxing? &..were you ever close to going down? How did you do it?

I was a boxer, a super, super fit amateur boxer. Boxer, not a fighter although I had plenty of aggression in the tank when the other guy started puffing.ImranSarwar wrote:You couldn't elaborate? Again with hindsight I never had a true win at all costs mentality. Hated losing but was equally disappointed when stopping somebody who'd put up no resistance. Seemed a waste of time to me. I boxed for enjoyment and getting bowled over didn't come into that equation.
The closest I ever came to being knocked down? Sparring with a 6'5" 110k pro contender. I was 81k, 6'2", walked onto a short left hook (trying to get close lol). He held back on the follow up right hand!

Thank you, Tarquin Tarpaulin IV. That all is interesting!
I "sparred" many times Hvywt too and did well there.
What is your age? They asked you to turn pro? What tournaments you went into? You compete with any "names" along the way? 70 match-Ups is "plenty"!
I'm in the ring against three (3) boxers THEY gain a world title shot. The champions they faced:
1990 Gianfranco Rosi (Italy) IBF my opp rated 12 at height. I fought him at New England GG 1/2 (win)/1983. -154lbs-
1996 Henry Maske (Germany) IBF my opp rated 4 at height. & my pro debut, 1988. -175lbs-
1997 Roy Jones Jr. United title. My opp rated #1 by WBC at 160lbs at his height. We met in '89.
-175lbs-

I decked a guy named Imran Sarwar. It was in the 1st round, 1st 10 seconds with my 1st punch (jab).
Guy was a keyboard warrior. Made you believed he was a boxer, that was his strength.

He said he fought Gianfranco Rosi as an amateur, even though Rosi was a pro at the time.

Now, he didn't say that. Maybe you have trouble with what is considered decent comprehension ability (doubly so, seeing as it was me and not Foxdog that made that statement).Tarquin Tarpaulin IV wrote:Hope his eyesight better than yours. I'm in the ring against three (3) boxers THEY gain a world title shot (So he fought three boxers who fought for the world title, are we ok with that?) The champions they faced:
The rest of it that follows is complete and utter gobblydgook.
So, I think it is your eyesight, or rather, your reading comprehension that is skew whiff.

gobblydgook? It's called a "triangle". I have a LOT deeper record than that, too.Fat Git wrote:Now, he didn't say that. Re: Boxers: name who decked you; who stopped you?
Lost twice on RSC, once to a bloke that outweighed me by 9kgs and both times it was due to ref deciding I'd had enough.
Only ever got dropped twice in my short career, once in my 3rd bout and once from a body shot in sparring.
Lost more than I won, but the other clubs loved me because I always gave their boys a good fight, I didn't tire out and more often than not I'd come out stronger in the 3rd and at least "win" that round. Reckon if am fights were 4-5 rounders I'd have a few more W-RSC on my record.

Lost once by RSC against a future commonwealth champ and was put down once by a future British/commonwealth champ and once by a future British/European champ.

^ ^ 40 amateur (12 pro), have EVERY name! &//I lost Rsc or ret 3X in all. One of the guys >probably< actually I AM better than. We fought for New England USA/ABF 156lb. Lost Rsc-1. The boxer I went up AGAINST hometown is Stoughton,MA.//& over the years if I profile myself (I mean...my record..) I leave any -name- off if it gets to that match-up. So INSIGNIFICANT the guy's NAME. **3x amateur I mean; 3x pro
