First show for 2016 in Victoria took place last night in Doncaster promoted by Murray Thompson.
The card included 4 professional bouts supported by a handful of spirited amateur bouts which were enjoyed by a strong local crowd.
First fight saw hard puching Matthew Portelli flatten Anthony Corless who was outgunned in the first round. Corless fought on bravely after being dropped but was caught again in an exchange. Referee, McColl, waved it off immediately (Corelss rose after some time and appeared fine).
Second bout pitted Chase Haley against journeyman Marlon Toby. Toby was cagey in the first round, possibly taking the points. Haley got his fight plan going in the second as a result Toby's corner retired their man before the bell for the third sounded.
Fight 3 was the fight of the night with Areta Gilbert and Korobo Etto trading punches for 6 rounds. Most rounds were close but Korobo, with his cleaner boxing, managed to work his way to unanimouns decision. A rematch between these two would be worth the admission fee.
The main event between Brent Dames and Lewis Goodrich was a willing affair. Goodrich started strongly but Dames was patient and once he worked out Goodrich's busy style he boxed very well to take a unanimous points decison after 8 rounds. Referee Missailidis ordered a point deduction from Goodrich for holding three quarters of the way through the bout, and, from then on Goodrich used his feet but didn't throw enough punches to keep off the fast finishing Dames.
It was good to have boxing back for 2016 for Victoria!

Re: Boxing Promo Doncaster Shoppingtown Hotel
Murray has promoted at Doncaster in the past. The venue is smaller than Knox so better for a show like last night.
Re: Boxing Promo Doncaster Shoppingtown Hotel
I don't think Murray has put a show on in Knox for years, he started putting shows on at a school in Box Hill then moved to the Shopping Town hotel.

According to Boxrec Murray's past 5 shows have been at Doncaster Shopping Town. His last Knox Netball Centre card was 3 years ago.

When Dunn moved camp, Murray wasn't gonna promote pro boxing, but that was short lived.
