Chacon vs Boza-Edwards II not sanctioned by WBC
Hello again. In transferring my master recording of the May 15, 1983 fight between Bobby Chacon and Cornelius Boza-Edwards, I noticed that you have it listed as for the WBC World Junior Lightweight Championship. In point of fact, unless the WBC has retroactively changed things, this fight was not sanctioned. As I recall at the time, Chacon as champion signed to fight the WBC's #1 contender and former champion Boza-Edwards in a highly anticipated rematch of their great 1981 championship bout. However, Don King, in a move to get a title shot for Hector Camacho brought suit against the fight and the WBC took the position that Camacho was due a shot first even though Boza-Edwards was their #1 contender. Because of this ridiculous ruling, the Chacon vs Boza-Edwards rematch was billed as a fight for the "People's Junior Lightweight World's Championship". On August 8, 1983, the WBC sanctioned a fight between Hector Camacho and Rafael Limon (who had lost the WBC title to Chacon in 1982) as a contest for their vacant WBC World's Junior Lightweight Championship, having in the interim stripped Chacon of his title for fighting Boza-Edwards first. I'm hoping my memory and notes at the time are correct on that.

You are correct, it was a non-title fight.

Thanks. I did incorrectly give August 8, 1983 as the date of the Camacho-Limon bout. It is August 7, 1983 as you have listed in your database.
