Re: MMA thread?
I watched the bellator card last night, first mm a card in a while and I have to say it was pathetic. Are bellator trying to kill the sport?
Shamrock v gracie was a farce
Dana v Kimbol was just an embarrassment. Homer Simpson was more aggressive during his boxing career! Seriously, has anyone else ever won a fight in a similar manner? They were pathetic and a disgrace to combat sports. I hope they have their purses withheld

Bellator has some good talent, but last night's card was more of a circus side show production.freddydoesdallas wrote:I watched the bellator card last night, first mm a card in a while and I have to say it was pathetic. Are bellator trying to kill the sport?

Was there really a demand for either of those fights? I used to have the tapes of the first 5 or 6 ufc's and shamrock v gracie at 50 odd was of no interest. I understand that may sound odd going on my previous post but I was channel surfing and came across bellator for the first time!

Am I the only person who thinks Bisping beats Silva this weekend?
It's kind of a mind-boggling thought to me. If you'd have asked me 5 years ago I'd have said such a result is not even remotely in the realm of possibility.

Goddammit! I was so hyped for that fight.
Re: MMA thread?
No I agree. Only because Silva is shot to shit though. I think Bisping has obviously seen better days aswell but he's not declined quite as much.jujigatame wrote:Am I the only person who thinks Bisping beats Silva this weekend?

Re: MMA thread?
Who can they even replace RDA with? I doubt McGregor can get down to 145 after spending the last 2 months preparing to fight at 155, unless he's walking around at only like 160 which I kind of doubt.
I have a hard time seeing someone like Alvarez or Pettis taking this fight on 11 days notice. Cerrone might be crazy enough to do it since he just finished his last fight in under 3 minutes and is obviously in fighting shape. Barring those options, maybe they offer Nate Diaz a bunch of money to take it? The 11 days of shit-talking leading up to the fight would be epic.

Yea, it seems like Bisping has been a relative constant over the last few years, while Silva's stock has dropped immeasurably.lefty wrote:No I agree. Only because Silva is shot to poo though. If you think about it, Bisping has been hovering in and around the MW top 10 for nearly 8 years now. He's never been a serious title contender, but his consistency has been impressive.
Re: MMA thread?
Can Cerrone make 155 this soon after just fighting at 170? I doubt they'd bump the weight up any more than 155..jujigatame wrote:Who can they even replace RDA with? It may have to be a 145er at 155. Maybe Holloway? Would Mendes take it on short notice again?

Re: MMA thread?
I bet Cerrone could make 155. I would suspect he weighed in at 170 while barely cutting any weight. I don't think he packed on significant additional muscle. The only question is whether he's crazy enough to take such a big fight on 11 days notice, 2 days after having fought.
If Cerrone isn't down, I bet they go with Diaz over someone like Holloway who has real potential as a FW contender.
What really sucks about this is that it puts the FW belt on hold indefinitely. If they'd just made McGregor/Edgar to begin with, this wouldn't have been as tricky a situation.

I have zero doubt Cerrone would take this in an instant, but I just don't think there's any way he gets under 160.
Supposedly Nate's strength coach has already tweeted that it's going to be Nate. At least that's the strongest rumor I've heard.
Re: MMA thread?
Faber sticking his head in now as well I see.. but it appears it is Nate Diaz w/ a possible catch weight.

Cerrone is already posting pics to social media saying he's ready and waiting for the call. I'd love to see that, or Diaz - just for the build up. Edgar and Aldo have already turned it down, by all accounts.

Re: MMA thread?
McGregor should take this all off the table and just say that he is not going to fight. I think it would be a mistake for him to fight a sub on 10 days notice. He should just get ready for the next fight whatever that may be. The only way I take the fight if I am McGregor is if it is for an interim belt.

Khabib says he wants the fight. The UFC declined.
Khabib would rag doll Conor, and the UFC knows it. They don't want that at this stage.

Khabib is already scheduled to headline an event in April. Diaz makes the most sense, the way I see it.

They also probably don't want someone who's pulled out of at least 4 consecutive fights in the past two years due to injury replacing someone else who pulled out due to injury.Impractical Poster wrote:Khabib says he wants the fight. The UFC declined.

Re: MMA thread?
Comon now... Khabib is already training for a fight with a top LW... and the Mcgregor fight is how many days away? Khabib is the uncrowned champ of the division. He dominated RDA, and has not lost a round since debuting in the UFC. His style is kryptonite for Mcgregor. He is also a bigger man than Conor. The UFC still has plenty of money to be made of Conor, and it would be quite bad for Conor and the UFC if their guy went out there and got dominated on the ground for 5 rounds straight, or possibly stopped.King Carlos wrote:They also probably don't want someone who's pulled out of at least 4 consecutive fights in the past two years due to injury replacing someone else who pulled out due to injury.Impractical Poster wrote:Khabib says he wants the fight. The UFC's excuse is that The Eagle is already booked to fight Ferguson. But, that has not stopped them in the past. It only makes sense to make this fight, unless they are afraid of Conor's chances. Khabib is ready. They would not have to pull in someone who is injured or not fully trained up.
Re: MMA thread?
Khabib has been so inactive.. who knows what he brings to the table anymore. With him being inactive, he has zero name power to the casual fan.... although I agree he poses a serious threat to Conor, I don't think the threat is the only reason the UFC turned him away.
As for never losing a round.. how about when he should've lost the fight to Tibau?
