Not sure anyone is going to rule it. A lot of people rate Spence, me included but if he's that good I doubt he'll hang around too long, he'll jump up.
He can fight in that grey area Canelo calls the MW Division at '155'
Thurman is good but not special in my mind.

Nobody stands out, IMO. What we really need is a Super Six style tournament. With Pac v Ramming Speed III and Porter v Sometimes (if it ever happens) several questions will be answered.
If Ramming Speed defeats Pac, he stakes a serious claim to the throne. If Pac wins, he must be considered the king of the hill in the division until proven otherwise.
If Sometimes beats Porter, the natural, logical progression would be a fight with Brook. But we all understand how that usually goes. If Porter wins, it reflects very positively on Brook being the one to beat in the division. A rematch with Porter could happen.
Brook needs to be brought into this mix this year.

No chance of that!
Brook hasn't finished digging up corpses & offering up members of his community allotments to fight him for his title!

Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Brook needs a big fight this summer. Ideally would like to see him fight Spence as he'll be mandated after Bizier however doubt Hearn will consider it a "big" enough name in his little Sky world so doubt that will happen.
His best hope other than continuing to stalk Khan is that Bradley beats Pacquiao as that probably could be made in the UK and would have some appeal. If not Hearn will have to tempt Garcia or Thurman/ Porter fight but will need to offer both of them big money to come over.

Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Terence Crawford when he moves up to Welterweight in a year or two.
Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Maybe, but not fighting the Lundys of the world. He needs to deal with Postol before he can even claim to be the man at 140.gilgamesh wrote:Terence Crawford when he moves up to Welterweight in a year or two.

Brook has the potential; but he's wasting his time fighting C-Level fighters like Bizier and Gavin which is just going to hinder him.

Spence will rule, all of them are running scared to face this young man.

Good prospect, high hopes for him and as good a shout as anyone.Undefeated49-0 wrote:]

But still to prove he can step up to the level of Pac, Brook, Thurman etc
Every chance he can but as always, you still have to answer the questions

This is my favourite long term.
I think he will be a WW fairly soon and think he's one of the top talents in the sport. Just need to see him in the big fights to prove it.
Re: Who will rule welterweight division?

Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
5 years down the line. Spence, ponomarev and Verdejo will be in the mix.
Got a feeling as soon as Verdejo becomes champ he will be moved up the weights rapidly.
Ponomarev is someone I was absolutely blown away with when I saw him. Ticks every box fighting wise but may prove to be a tough sell initially.

Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
The problem is that they're (the WW's) aren't lining up to face him so he cannot get the big names, he's fast becoming the GGG of the WWs.davie wrote:This is my favourite long term. Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Hardly any of these guys are fighting each other. Spence-Porter-Garcia-Thurman-Brook-Mayweather. Of these 6 the only two that have fought each other are Porter and Brook. It is just dumb. Mayweather by the way fought NONE of these guys.

Floyd should fight him.Undefeated49-0 wrote:The problem is that they're (the WW's) aren't lining up to face him so he cannot get the big names, he's fast becoming the GGG of the WWs.davie wrote:This is my favourite long term. Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
I prefer not to bring Floyd into the mix until he un-retires, which I doubt.
Brook vs Spence would be good, but would guess Brook will fight him like he did Alexander, Bradley, Chaves, etc. I heard him vs Rios fell through because of a rematch clause? In other words, find a way not to fight him. Brook is kind of like Wilder at the moment - holding a belt with only one win over a top guy at his weight.

Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Brook has claimed the opposite. Of course he held out for that fight with Kahn which I do not blame him. It was going to be Mega bucks and be huge for the UK. Now that that is over if he defends then he should start fighting the other contenders. I am hoping he will. Of course it would not hurt for one of the Americans to go to the UK to fight Brook. After all, he is the champ.Badhusker wrote:I prefer not to bring Floyd into the mix until he un-retires, which I doubt.

Spence has said pubicly more than once he would be glad to fight Brook in the UK.....no response.
I agree that the champ should have the choice of venue, which make me laugh at morons that insist Wilder should have to go to Povetkins home turf.

Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Why? What has he done to earn that fight?? He is still at Prospect Level, not even a Contender yet (mainly because he can't get the big names to face him) but he is also a Mayweather protege so it is highly unlikely that they would fight even if he was deserving of a title shot.Lancenix wrote:Floyd should fight him.
Re: Who will rule welterweight division?
Even if Floyd could beat him, which I doubt at his age, he will make more money off Spence having him in his/their stable than he will fighting him. When Haymon, Floyd, and Richard Shaefer team up it will get ugly for TR and GB.
