Re: Another good reason for Wilder not to go to Russia
He would also have a problem dealing with the distraction of the beautiful and accommodating Russian women.
Re: Another good reason for Wilder not to go to Russia
The one and only reason he doesn't want to go to Russia is the reason why he's doing all he can to avoid Povetkin the first place. He can't beat him.
Re: Another good reason for Wilder not to go to Russia
I disagree. The odds are against it but he certainly can beat Povetkin.gilgamesh wrote:The one and only reason he doesn't want to go to Russia is the reason why he's doing all he can to avoid Povetkin the first place. He can't beat him.
Re: Another good reason for Wilder not to go to Russia
I know he has a puncher's chance. He has a puncher's chance against anybody, I meant it more like he must feel he can't beat him. Either that or Haymon feels that way.Tanzio wrote:I disagree. I understand. I'm not defending them. I have long felt that Wilder is one good shot away from being a giant black preying mantis on ice.gilgamesh wrote:I know he has a puncher's chance. Because Wilder's been pampered too much.
He's like an over-protected big baby, afraid to fight Povetkin without home adantage, even though he's 4 inches taller and has a 9" reach advantage.

Re: Another good reason for Wilder not to go to Russia
This happened a long long time ago I remember...
Oh wait, december 2015, haha that explains a lot, as far as I know he's payed anyway, but before the fight never asked for a lot of money as long as he got the shot for that Silver belt and Povetkin's promotor said all the money has been payed to Wach's promotors in America.
I'm not sure what happened today, but if you take this serious I also understand why Deontay Wilder doesn't fight Klitschko, because according to Shannon Briggs the Klitschko's have never payed him either.
Anyway, it's another very good excuse from Deontay Wilder fans to avoid top this top contender, just like the excuse to avoid Shannon Briggs and name them.

Briggs was ripped off by his own promoters, not by the Klitschkos. He's never said otherwise himself, some Klitschko haters have though.asdfjkl wrote: if you take this serious I also understand why Deontay Wilder doesn't fight Klitschko, because according to Shannon Briggs the Klitschko's have never payed him either.

Weak excuse, and not true. Wach tested positive and was paid anyway, according to the Polish media at the time. Later for no good reason he was cleared, thanks to a corrupt anti-Russian sanctioning organization.Anyway, it's another very good excuse from Deontay Wilder fans to avoid top this top contender, just like the excuse to avoid Shannon Briggs and name them.
Wach was caught on PEDs before, vs. Klitschko. Wach and his trainer were caught with a lot of illegal street drugs for sale:

Oh, I assumed Briggs ment the Klitschko's didn't pay him, I didn't realise it were his own promotors. I'm sorry for that mistake.Freedom2013 wrote:Briggs was ripped off by his own promoters, not by the Klitschkos. I knew Wach was cought on PEDs against Klitschko, but as far as I know, not for the second time and that's where this topic is all about.
Also, I really don't like Wilder, his existance in boxing is very bad for the sport.
Even after 20 ish fights, he still fights guys I've never heard about, overweight welterweights, guys with 3 fights in the past 11 years before Wilder, name it. Meanwhile claiming Povetkin is on steroids, meanwhile claiming it was Povetkin who ducked him instead of the other way around, continually begging for all kind of unfair advantages behind the scenes. For me Wilder is just a silly silly boy.
I actually really like Charles Martin, not because he's any good, but simply because he actually fights top contenders while carrying that belt.

like 36 hours before the purse bid in miami and the shit talking marches on
about ducking and chicken and this and that. the wbc rule over the purse bid
split is the champ gets 70%. assuming povetkin was offered more than 30%
already, the russians would not only need to win the purse bid, but win it
substantially for povetkin's 30% to match whatever he was already offered.
i could swear i remember something about an even bigger split for when the
champ has to travel to the challenger's country, so it's pretty fair to say that
povetkin is taking a big pay cut by fighting in russia unless he gets paid under
the table or the russian purse bid is much bigger (more than enough to guarantee
a financial loss for the promoter). if povetkin winds up taking less than he was
offered AND fighting in the united states, pushing for the purse bid will turn out
to be a dumb move.

One scenario I have not seen mentioned is the possibility of Roc Nation winning the purse bid. That would probably make both parties very unhappy and could legitimately happen.

yeah i see a ruble as 1.3 cents.Tanzio wrote:76.06 Rubles = $1
the average moscow monthly salary converts to about $1,200 (compared to $11,000+
for manhattan) and the price of a dominos pizza or mcdonalds value meal there looks
about what it costs here and apartments even in bad neighborhoods aren't that cheap,
so you have to wonder how poor people in moscow even survive when the average
worker can barely afford a subsistance lifestye. there are lots of rich people there, but
you aren't going to fill an arena with them. a good hockey team in moscow is dynamo
in the KHL. you can get in the door for under $20 and one of the really good seats will
cost you over $40. there really isn't any NHL team that you can attend for that kind of
money. by comparison, you can get into msg for a rangers game for about $100 and the
really good seats are often over $400. the only way moscow outbids lou dibella at msg or
barclays is if the russian promoter intentionally takes a bath, and povetkin's smaller cut
of the purse bid means he probably makes less than if he had just accepted dibella's offer
to fight in new york. in my last post, i left out another possibility:
-povetkin's promoter LOSES the purse bid
-povetkin winds up fighting in new york for LESS than he was originally offered
-povetkin loses
the trifecta!!

By KO even? Now that would very much surprise me actually, if that happens. Povetkin has never really been dizzy because of a hit for over two seconds.bigman1968 wrote:According to all gambling sites - the odds are in favor of Wilder, by KO...Tanzio wrote:I disagree. What makes them so accommodating? I also assume you mean 'to foreigners'

I'm not a gambler. The odds that I am referring to are based on my personal assessment of who will likely be victorious.bigman1968 wrote:According to all gambling sites - the odds are in favor of Wilder, by KO...Tanzio wrote:I disagree. Have you visited Moscow? Wilder is not just any foreigner. The word accommodating was not an indictment of the virtue of all Russian women.Tomasino wrote:Tanzio wrote:He would also have a problem dealing with the distraction of the beautiful and accommodating Russian women.

Huge, famous, wealthy and athletic professional athletes are accommodated by a pool of women wherever they perform, if the athlete is so inclined. Moscow just happens to have a bigger pool of gorgeous accommodating women than most places on the planet. Not all, but most, IMO.

He almost died against Huck though, and Wlad made him sit on his ass with a single jab.asdfjkl wrote:By KO even? Now that would very much surprise me actually, if that happens. Vlad Hrunov tweeted that he's going to make a Klitschko-Povetkin like bid.

That's correct, Povetkin is the only heavyweight boxer I know that won a boxing match, while hitting the wall.PsychoGamerTwo wrote:He almost died against Huck though, and Wlad made him sit on his ass with a single jab.asdfjkl wrote:By KO even?
