Parker vs Takam

Post by crusader »

Wow, wasn't expecting that.

Big step up for Parker...if he's not for real it will be shown.

Indeed.

April 17th in Christchurch is litmus test time.

Listed as IBF Mandatory Eliminator too I see.

Huge step up.

takam is very short but is elusive, extremely durable and has lots of skill

he's a terribly awkward fighter...understandably avoided and underated .....but absolutely world class.

much as I like a huge puncher (sorely needed in this heavyweight age of muscle-bound gym monkeys) I would still love Takam to win.

parker is tall but not excessively so it could be a great fight.

we really don't know enough about Parker yet...but credit to the way he's been brought along so far

I would be surprised if Parker wins this, but no matter what, very very great match!

Is Parker vs Takam the biggest fight ever on NZ soil??

Tua vs Ustinov was big. But by then Tua was the other side of 40 and past it.

So we have Joshua vs Martin on April 9th and then Parker vs Takam on April 17th.

Suddenly the IBF title has become very interesting indeed.

Another good fight!

A good step up for Parker, and a good chance for Takam to boost his stock. The winner will be in line for something big.

It is already listed in Boxrec. Which is usually a sign things have progresses further than just talks.

It wouldn't be the first time they jumped the gun.

True. But they usually get it right. From my understanding, most often the promoter is actually the one who informs Boxrec to list the fight.

JP's trainer tweeted (and JP retweeted) "Joseph Parker will fight Carlos Takam for the IBF world title eliminator #TEAMPARKER"

Let's see what happens though.

Sounds like it is at least agreed to, and probably signed as well :TU:

Love it. Perfect step up opponent for Parker at this stage. If he doesn't get by Takam he was never going to be a major player in the Heavyweight division anyway I don't figure. Takam is what I would consider a very tough gatekeeper at Heavyweight. If you're really one of the best you'll get by him, if you're not you'll struggle against him badly or lose to him.

HUGE step up for Parker, possibly too big?

I think this is close to a 50:50 fight at this stage, though Parker will probably be the favourite.

Could it be a Price-Thompson repeat?

Parker and Fury are pretty much the only 24-year-old heavyweight serious prospects who have dared fight a top 10 heavyweight in like 15 years. I am surprised that Parker's camp are willing to take this much risk, but... kudos to them. They probably figure that no matter who outboxes who, Takam is going to get knocked out.

There is a very very big level difference between Takam and anyone else Parker ever faced, I'd be very surpriced if Parker really already is at Povetkins level. Parkers last opponent even said that the difference between Parker and Povetkin at this stage is that you don't see Povetkins hits coming, so you can't defend against it.

Agreed. If Joshua wins then he'd have to face the winner by Jan 17.

Potentially next two IBF fights would be Martin-Joshua then Joshua-Parker.

Good set of fights.

Difference is Price would never have got to the top no matter how well matched he was in the early stages.

This is a great fight and I expect Parker to win convincingly. He'll be in the mix when heavyweight gets hot, and it won't be long till that happens.

Fury did the heavyweight division a huge favour beating Wlad. The freeing up of the belts has been the shot in the arm the heavyweight division so desperately needed, and these two upcoming bouts offer plenty - as does the fight between the two winners.
