Tyson Fury - The saviour of the Heavyweight Division
Tyson Fury - The saviour of the Heavyweight Division
Its amazing how much 1 mans victory can shake up the most recognized and celebrated division is boxing. Not only has he put himself on the world map he has opened the door for many contenders to now get shots they may have had to wait a couple of years for before. Although he was unfairly stripped of the IBF title this has allowed an unknown Charles Martin to become a 'champion' and defend it against the hugely backed force that is Joshua. Now the news from last night that Parker will fight Takam in an IBF eliminator for the winner of the above. This is fantastic for the division that exciting fights are getting made again and has the fans talking. Fury may be hated by some and loved by others but everyone should be appreciative of what he achieved last time out to get this division back and entertaining for the fans.
Re: Tyson Fury - The saviour of the Heavyweight Division
It was a matter of time. Credit to Fury for the win, but both looked poor in the fight. Least amount of punches landed in history of any 12 round championship fight.
When you are almost 40, it's bound to happen. The same would happen to Floyd if he stayed in. Father time beats them all.
If Fury holds the belt for 3 or 4 fights, I will be both surprised and impressed.

Was a very poor fight but done what he needed to do. I think he does if he stays dedicated to the sport. Very under rated when he puts the work in camp before.Badhusker wrote:It was a matter of time. a dedicated, on the ball tyson fury will hold the belts for much more than 3-4 fights. fury is a bit of a mixed bag but what the OP said is truthful, he has saved the HW division from being very stale.
as said also, when fury is on his game and puts the work in, he can box very well and he is still a bit underrated. but fury will be champ for a while

I don't think that fight alone put the HW division back into the limelight, it is/was a combination of things. One of the main things is that everyone is just glad that boring @$$ one punch and hug Klitschko is not holding the title.
Fury didn't look any better than Klits, what makes him so interesting is that he has a big mouth that's just begging to be closed and I'd be surprised if the took on one of the top 3 at HW if he was able to retain the title without getting KO'd.
The good news though is that at least people are starting to take notice of the HW so in that respect I have to give credit to the foul-mouthed Fury for being a part of that.

With Fragmented belts, and unproven talents occupying them, there is no saviour among the champions.
Maybe Parker or someone from the 2016 Olympics.

Why Parker.. he's not unproven? Done nothing more than any of the other unbeaten prospects. Once he fights Takam we'll no where he's at.pound per pound wrote:With Fragmented belts, and unproven talents occupying them, there is no saviour among the champions.

I would much prefer to see fragmented belts than Klistchko dominating them in his boring fashion. Finally the division is being talked about because of bouts the vast majority want to see, not Kitshcko hugging his way to victory.

Saying Fury is the savior is straight BS, he didn't do much of anything to a senior citizen throwing one shot at a time and hugging him to death.
Re: Tyson Fury - The saviour of the Heavyweight Division
Tyson Fury will be lucky if his reign survives one credible challenger.

I enjoyed Wladimir Klitschkos career.
Just saying....

Fury did the heavyweight division a huge favour beating Wlad. The freeing up of the belts has been the shot in the arm the heavyweight division so desperately needed, and these two upcoming IBF bouts offer plenty - as does the fight between the two winners - hopefully Joshua and Parker.

It was the most awful heavyweight world heavyweight championship fight I have seen in 30 years of watching boxing , but you have to say Klitschko did very little too.
Klitschko sucked and IMHO he always has with his one punch then hug style, he had to be hands down the most boring fighter ever since John Ruiz.
I can't believe the lame @$$ Fury couldn't find a way to knock out the Senior Citizen who threw one shot and then hugged all night long, it was as bad as Byrd vs Williamson.
Re: Tyson Fury - The saviour of the Heavyweight Division
Definitely the worst fight I've seen since Byrd vs Williamson for sure.
