I don't think he was joking, but either way I was about to say the same thing. If Wilder fights and beats Povetkin, quite a few here will have to eat their words and admit they were wrong. If he vacates, I will join in on dissing Wilder.....but don't think he will.

I made a prediction 1 year ago that Wilder will likely vacate rather than fight Povetkin.

Wilder has fought bumsand designated losers his entire career. Admittedly, Szpilka is a top20 guy, but other than that he's never faced a single credible opponent. Povetkin is certainly a top5 HW, possibly top3 or even the #1 or #2 guy. This is not an easy fight like Wilder is used to and Povetkin will likely be favoured by the casinos. Povetkin has a massive amateur background and has beaten much better fighters thanWilder has.

If Wilder and his team had any confidence in him whatsoever. Theyd take the fight. If they vacate its because they dont have confidence in him winning the fight.

If Wilder does vacate, it will go down as one of the biggest ducks in the history of the sport. American fans can try and spin it all they want but the reality is his own team obviously has no confidence in him.

Wilder will go down as a massive duck.

If the fight happensAlex wins easy. Likely by KO.

Me thinks Wilder will vacate though out of fear. Thats fine. Its like quitting on your stool. Povetkin will be the champ then and surpass Wilder in the ratings. Actually, hes already rated higher.

Povetkin > Wilder.

Drop the belt you American fraud. What kind of champ cant defend against his mandatory? Pathetic. Hes an American fraud who ran the first time a real fight came up.

Nope, I wasn't joking. Unlike most on this forum, I believe Wilder is quite good, and one of the top talents in the division.

First off, I think it's silly to assume that Wilder will run from a challenge.

Secondly, I believe he beats Povetkin handily.

Povetkin is overrated, while Wilder is underrated.

that purse bid seemed low to me, but then i saw dibella only offered just over $5mil,
so wondering how much can this fight make in russia? ticket prices and tv over there
are not going to cover it, so unless he can get united states and EU tv money to make
up the difference he takes a bath. wilder takes over 5 mil of that 7.15 mil purse.
just make sure on fight night that promoter wires the cash instead of handing over
a bad check.

edit: just noticed the bonus arrangement.
so 715k held back for the winner, guaranteeing wilder $4,504,500, Povetkin $1,930,500
with the winner getting the $715k. claiming that wilder is going to walk away from
between $4,504,500 and $5,219,500 out of fear of povetkin is silly melodrama.
even after his training camp and team cuts and taxes he is still taking home millions.

Why is it hard to believe he'll avoid Povetkin?

This is the same man who wanted nothing to do with Tony Thompson after Thompson KO'd price and pulled out of a fight with Chisora citing visa issues (But could miraculously get a visa to spar Haye a month later).

I don't think Wilder HIMSELF is a ducker or coward, but his team have made a nasty habit of feeding him crap opponents who he can easily KO to build him up because they smell money from the American public who are desperate to have the #1 heavyweight division spot again.

I'm not sure if it is getting more comical or pathetic on this site? I would be lying if I said I had never used the word duck before, but now guys are accused of ducking before knowing the facts, or before the decision has been made. (Thurman and Wilder)

The "American public" is anything but "desperate to have the #1 heavyweight division spot again."

The promoters may be attempting to maneuver Wilder into a position of national interest, but up to now the success of their attempts has been very limited.

Team Wilder has done the right thing with Wilder up to now but the training wheels must now come off for good and the risks will increase. Wilder needed time to develop. That time has now run dry.

Things have changed since then. Al's big hedgefund money has been depleted. PBC is switching to more usual way of making busyness, that is to exploit their fighters. We can already see Haymon stable thrown in big money fight without reservation. Next they will be thrown in every fight big or small, so that Al can recover some of that investment cash. After all, they have all signed slave contact and Al has them exactly where he wants them.

Wilder is going to Moscow whether he likes it or not. Only question is whether he is coming back walking on his own feet. Expect a brutal knock out win for the Russian.

When he ducks out Americans will come out with 50 excuses why the fight could never happen. Wilder won the title and fought Eric Molina, Johnathon Duhaupus and Artur Spielzka. He is a coward. He does not want to fight. He is an embarrassment.

He made over 6 million fighting those guys. Now he will make over 4 million for Povetkin.

If Wilder does fight Povetkin, which I am 99% positive he will, will guys like you come back and admit your idiotic claims were bogus, or will you just go away to find some other guy to disrespect? (Americans only, of course)

When he gets his ass kicked inside of a few rounds the real question is where will you be? I can't wait to see the line on that fight if it ever happens. Mike Perez got KO'd inside of 90 seconds or so. Wilder's footwork is beyond awful and he has not fought any rugged fighters like Potvetkin who have skills at all. Easy fight, easy win.

2 million a fight for fighting 2 bums and a decent HW. I see what you are saying to an extent. That is what boxing has come. You take the fight with the least amount of risk for the most amount of money. Floyd patented that. Look at 147 and you will see that outside of porter vs. brook and pacman vs. bradley none of the other top ten guys have even fought each other once!  That is the sick joke boxing has become.

DW earned over $6m for those 3 fights? I'm seeing $1.4m x2 and $1.5m = $4.3m, in which case he'd make over 3x as much against Pov than he would for a standard defense and over $3m more than his current highest purse.

I think he'll probably take the fight.

Thank you for the correction. I still say he drops out of this fight one way or another. If he does not it is gonna be bad. America's next great hope!! No heavyweight champ from the USA in 20 years!! Who would have ever thought that could or would ever happen?? Even if he wins he still won't be the champ but at least he would keep himself alive for such distinction.
