All British unification bouts
All British unification bouts
Read something earlier today which said Frampton-Quigg was only the third all British unification fight.
Could have sworn there's been more, but off he top of my head can only think of Haye-Macc & Benn-Eubank 2 in addition to tonight's fight. Any of you knowledgable chaps know of any more?

Re: All British unification bouts
I can't think of any.
Re: All British unification bouts
None at all?
Re: All British unification bouts
Can't think of any. Hatton Witter could easily have been one. Could end up with a couple in the next 12 months. Heavyweight if AJ gets IBF strap and maybe at 168.
Ps lightweight too!

Re: All British unification bouts
I'm not sure that was a unification fight, don't think Akiwande held a belt at the time? But I can't really remember tbh.stevedoc wrote:Lennox vs Henry akiwande .... akiwande was wbo champ I think as well as Lewis's wbc
Re: All British unification bouts
Herbie Hide had won the vacant WBO title two weeks before.stevedoc wrote:Lennox vs Henry akiwande .... akiwande was wbo champ I think as well as Lewis's wbc

Re: All British unification bouts
If Kessler counts as British then Calzaghe vs Kessler and Froch vs Kessler II were unification bouts.
Kessler held a British passport until he was 16 (from what I read).

I get where you're coming from but he obviously fought under the Danish flag so doesn't count to me.Horse wrote:If Kessler counts as British then Calzaghe vs Kessler and Froch vs Kessler II were unification bouts.

Looked at the name below instead if above the post.
Needless to say the eminent boxing knowledge comment was sarcasm

Re: All British unification bouts
Mike Costello said this was only the 3rd in the last 25 yrs, listing the three you gave.
That means to me there must be others. I can't think of any though.

Re: All British unification bouts
To be fair, the further back you go the less weight divisions there is, the less champions there is per division and Britain hasn't always had the number of titlists it has recently.CharlesListon wrote:Mike Costello said this was only the 3rd in the last 25 yrs, listing the three you gave.

There may actually only be the three
