Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
I think it's a bit unfair to fully blame Gallagher. Yeah, his tactics were bullshit. How anyone can tell a fighter to go out for 6 rounds and not throw a punch is beyond me. But... Quigg deserves some of the blame for not realising sooner than the tactics were bullshit. Surely by the end of the 4th he must have realised he'd gifted the past rounds to Frampton purely because Frampton actually threw a handful of punches whereas he'd done nothing and surely by then he should have thought "hang on, this is bollocks. I'm going out to fight in round 5".

Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
I'm sorry, but I'm not having this.
Maybe Gallagher told him to go out and be cautious, fight off the back foot, not take risks and not throw when he was likely to be countered. All with the intention of stepping it up second half.
But don't tell me you honestly believe Scott Quigg was sent out with the order to not physically throw his hands once in 18 minutes of boxing and voluntarily gift the opponent the first 6 rounds of a 12 round bout, in the biggest fight of his career. That's just nonsense!
Did anyone actually hear these words from the corner?

Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
It is not unfair to blame Gallagher at all. As a boxer you invest 100% faith in your coach, when you lose 100% faith then you leave. If you're going to just do your own thing in the biggest fight of your life then you are with the wrong coach, he trusted gallaghers judgement and he let him down. Gallagher and quigg must have been then only folk in the arena that thought he as doing anything approaching winning....
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
Ok, going on that, did you hear Gallagher tell him to pick it up? Was he reading the fight to know that he was not doing enough? If Quigg was not boxing as his trainer wanted and if the Joe saw it was not going to his plan, why was he surprised to find him losing? Come on, think about what you just wrote then think about the reactions of the trainer.davie wrote:I'm sorry, but I'm not having this.

I'm not defending Joe Gallagher here, I think they chose to be conservative. His gameplan was wrong, his reading of what was happening was appauling and the corner work is deserving of a public flogging.tobyh5 wrote:Ok, going on that, did you hear Gallagher tell him to pick it up? But I don't believe the man actually told his fighter not to punch his opponent for the entire first 6 rounds of the fight. Being a shit trainer/strategist and being brain dead is two entirely different things
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
Gallagher needed to be told that sky had quigg winning nothing early to know he was behind? That right there makes his Ring magazine award a joke and gives all his critics fuel for years. Inept plan but worse to not be able to read what was obviously happening is embarrassing.
For a class trainer to not be able to realise that his charge was losing, when 95% of people had him getting trounced is ridiculous. Ok, he was not getting hit much but he was getting hit. At least Frampton was trying to land some shots, trying to control the tempo, trying to open him up. Sure he was not getting through much but when not a lot is landing, you have to give the rounds to the guy actually throwing shots, coming forward and at least trying to make a fight of it.

I agree with everything you say, and Gallagher deserves scathing criticism for it all.tobyh5 wrote:Gallagher needed to be told that sky had quigg winning nothing early to know he was behind? But I just wont buy the idea, that at any time in the build up, the words "don't throw any punches in the first 6 rounds" or anything to that effect, ever left Gallaghers mouth.
If they did, it's not boxing training/strategy that he needs to brush up on, it's basic arithmetic
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
when the mikes were in the corner gallagher was telling quigg he was "boxing beautifully"......at the end of round 8 gallagher told him sky had him 6-1 down at the end of round 8 so he was now 6-2 down..........quigg was shell-shocked............at the end of fight gallagher admitted he changed the tactics after round 8 after hearing the score......the fact that gallagher needed to check tv screens to see how the fight was going says it all..........
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
Just watched the post fight presser and I am amazed at what the Quigg camp are saying and how badly they are reading the fight. I understand people do not like to put their hands up and acknowledge their weaknesses and mistakes but in life, I find that the only way to move on and improve is to really acknowledge where you have slipped up, to work out why and how to ensure it does not happen again.
The presser had Gallagher saying they were even after 4 rounds, compared Quigg to Mayweather by saying he was not getting hit, that it was nip and tuck. WHAT?! There is a world of difference between Mayweather controlling the distance, not being hit, showing ring generalship, landing counters, being in control and Quigg walking around the ring with his hands up trying to just block punches. If neither fighter is landing much, they must look at who is in control, who is trying to force the fight, who is pressing the action, who is throwing punches etc. Just blocking punches is not good enough.
Hearn said that Frampton did not do anything, was not willing to engage, that everytime Quigg tried to fight Frampton held on. WHAT?! First 6/7 rounds Frampton was front foot, trying to open up Quigg, trying to be aggressive when he could. The rounds Quigg won (8-11) still had Frampton engaging. I thought he was coming worse off but he stood and traded and tried and succeeded in getting his own shots in there. Final round, Frampton was in control and engaging.

Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
After the Salinas fight it is unforgivable that Gallagher makes the same mistake again. I think his ego is getting in the way of his judgement. If the first 6 rounds yesterday were a strategy then the bloke needs stringing up. Why give half the fight away for free?
I wanted Quigg to win but he didn`t deserve it last night.

Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
In a 12 round championship bout the boxer needs to fight for 12 rounds, not rest. For 6 and then fight for 6. I wish I was a boxing trainer, common sense gets conflated as genius.
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
Carl Froch was without a doubt a Gr8 fighter but from what he said about last nights contest being a draw, in my opinion he is a poor judge I agreed with the 2 judges who gave it to Frampton I thought he won it clear, Quigg did nothing in the 1st 6 rounds & that's a lot to make up ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
Quigg could have tucked up and kept on the defensive but still thrown a couple of punches every 15 seconds, it would have made sure that he wasn't gifting any rounds unnecessarily. He didn't have to avoid every Frampton punch, he was ducking and dodging even the jabs, he could have slipped the rights, blocked the hooks and countered through the first 4 and then walked Frampton down. Quigg gave his title away, he wasn't even breathing hard at the end.
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
gallagher makes out he's some super trainer..........the best fighter he brought thru all the way is john murray...........hardly hamed or haye..........
Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
gallagher wasn't worth a carrot last night. comical

Re: Quigg Didn't Freeze In The Early Rounds.....
All this tactical genius stuff is arsebollocks, in all honesty I could have given Quigg better advice through the first 6 rounds. It wasn't as if Frampton is Julian Jackson. I'm honestly disappointed, all that work wasted. A 16 week camp for what? To throw a few hundred punches and stand up for 12 rounds FFS.Oiky wrote:gallagher wasn't worth a carrot last night. comical![]()

Ah well it will all turn out for the best.
Quigg will end up with Tony Sims, who is a fabulous trainer and is in no way connected to Camp Eddie in any other way than boxing, honest.

Then they wonder why they get called arrogant, they don't have a "thinking brain" between the lot of them.tobyh5 wrote:Just watched the post fight presser and I am amazed at what the Quigg camp are saying and how badly they are reading the fight. Quigg could leave Gallagger after this. The trust will be lost.

I thought Quigg froze, but after hearing what Galagher has come out with since the fight ended - I have little doubt now that Quigg was being fed the wrong information from his trainer during those early rounds.
What a wasted opportunity for Quigg

Clown Gallagher blew it big time, Quigg showed he had a great chin taking that uppercut, so should have looked to boss it from the off. He clearly listens to everything Joe says, but on the big stage, he had an hopeless schmuck in his corner.

I remember reading something about Joe Frazier saying he took up boxing because it was simple and obvious how you won: by hitting your opponent more times than they hit you.palooka wrote:In a 12 round championship bout the boxer needs to fight for 12 rounds, not rest.
