I disagree Silva subbed Sonnen and that was in the back of Bisbings mind. You must of forgot about that one huh? That is OK I'll be happy to remind you about that one. Bisbing made sure not to go to the ground for a reason and that was it. He fought the right fight by keeping it on the feet.

It's BISPING you utter prick!

And we know how that one turned out. Silva is a black belt ya know. Silva is long and skilled on the ground. You are underselling his ground game bigtime.
It turned out with Silva being unable to escape Sonnen's mount for the last minute of the round, and then Sonnen getting KO'd in R2, which had nothing to do with his ground game.

Silva is skilled on the ground but the chances of him submitting Bisping off his back were very slim. Besides, takedown attempts can be their own reward. If your opponent is concerned with the takedown threat it affects their striking quite a bit.

Bisping WON the fight you do know that right? You are talking like he lost. His strategy was the right one he won!! Secondly, Sonnen is wayyyy better on the ground than Bisping. Your whole point makes ZERO cents. NONE!!

Deadendgeneration wrote:I don't think it was an issue really. Bisping won the first two rounds and was holding his own in the third on the feet. Why change strategy when something is working? With hindsight clearly taking Silva to the ground could have helped avoid the ending of the third round which to my scoring swayed the fight, but then so could keeping his eyes on Silva rather than the ref.

Also how good are Bisping's takedowns? He doesn't take people down all that often. Most of the instances of Silva being taken down have come at the hands of elite wrestlers.
Exactly.

You seem upset for some reason. I'm not talking like he lost at all. I'm simply analyzing his strategy and mentioning an area where I think it could have been improved. Let's face it, he won by the skin of his teeth and got beat up pretty badly in the process. I think if he'd mixed in more takedown attempts it would have kept Anderson guessing and made the 2nd half of the fight much easier for Bisping.

Does that make "cents"?

I was using a play on words there and I am glad you caught it. I just think you are overrating Bispings ground game. I mean in what fights was he so great on the ground where you think that would have been so effective against Silva. I just have never seen Bisping all that great on the ground to begin with.

I don't think anyones referring to him being Maia'esque on the ground, but groundwork isn't just about beautiful flowing transitions and sub attempts, it's as much about the ability to prevent sub attempts, prevent your opponent advancing and dominating position, and wrestling in reverse to be able to get back to your feet. All things Bisping is good at.

Sonnen really struggled with Bisping. Mike won that fight, even Sonnen admitted that.

Ben Fowkles (who's one of the best guys writing about MMA) made a point recently on The Co Main Event (http://www.comainevent.com/), a podcast he does with fellow writer Chad Dundas and which I recommend. The mind games that Conor has employed successfully against his opponents thus far in the UFC (Aldo in particularly was gotten to) probably won't work the same way on Nate Diaz because while you may get him to react to you The Diaz Brothers take every fight personally and don't have anything even close to a sport mentality. So, he won't be thrown of his game in the same way. He goes into every fight with the idea that this is a fornicating fight and fornicate you.

I think it's an interesting fight in terms of what will happen in the cage but I also see the potential for chaos surrounding it. Johnathan Snowden, who covers boxing and MMA for Bleacher Report, tweeted something that I agree with.

If Conor keeps fornicating around he's going to get Paul Herrera'ed in a hotel elevator. #209 #Hilton #stopplayin #UFC196

A sentiment that was also echoed by CodyBllinger.

Connor better keep security lol shields and nick won't give a shit about Saturday if they see him outside later

11:05 PM - 3 Mar 2016
Then on the last episode of UFC Embedded Krazy Horse pops up as part of the Diaz entourage, and to put it mildly Krazy Horse is another interesting character.

While Conor is playing a role and hyping a fight there is a volatility about The Diaz brothers that is more than affectation. It was shown, for instance, when they jumped Mayhem Miller in 2010 (http://www.mma.tv/mma/the-infamous-strikeforce-brawl/) or in Nick Diaz's efforts to goad GSP into a street fight (http://www.mmafighting.com/2013/3/13/41 ... e-in-hotel). I can see Conor's trash talk getting the whole crew riled up and there are members of that crew who wouldn't be adverse to going after him in the cage post fight or if they run into him on the street.

Saw some trashy interviews earlier. Two white studio suits trying to goad the two competitors into lowering themselves like a couple if imbeciles. Really depressing sh*t all round....because it's like, you can see the suits don't really behave that way and are serving their masters but the fighters respond to them like they are obliged to dance for these people....it's kinda sad.

Anyway....The Irishman looked in better trim and I hear he is good. Last time I remember seeing an MMA fight where one guy looked awesome and the other guy looked a bit bedraggled was....right before Forest Griffin pasted Quinton Rampage Jackson. Coincidence?

I actually thought McGregor was starting to get a bit pissy in some of the interviews Diaz was just his normal self but McGregor I thought looked not quite himself sometimes he's normally loud, cocky and having fun but never riled up here he seemed to be slightly riled. I doubt it'll make a difference to the outcome but something I found interesting anyway.

I think he's always had a solid ground game even since he was back on TUF. I'm not saying he'd have passed Silva's guard and submitted him, but he's always shown excellent ground 'n' pound whenever he's gotten opponents on their backs and I can't recall anyone threatening him seriously with submissions from guard. Plus like I said, when you threaten takedowns against a striker you change the dynamic of the standup game. It makes him less comfortable, more likely to drop his hands and react to feints. If you just shoot for a takedown in the 5th round when you're tired and desperate, it's too late. It's something you have to establish earlier in the fight.

Yep. Don't know about Nate winning, but he has definitely gotten under Conor's skin. Pretty funny. Hopefully it translates to a great performance from Nate.

McGregor calling Nate a "broke little punk" and saying he could buy and sell him 100 times just made me sick. I hate the jumped up little prick. Not only do I want Nate and anyone else he ever fights to beat the piss out him, I'd like some of his countrymen to tiger kidnapp him and send him back to his beloved dole queue :bag:

Nate didn't just make Conor flinch, he made him just about jump out of his pants.

Not that I think Nate wins, but it is interesting. I wonder if Conor is feeling the pressure, finally? He is supposed to win this fight. Nate is a huge underdog. Nate is a late replacement. Nate is not intimidated. Man, I hope we get an upset!

I also wonder if the fight was at 170 because Dana is worried about his meal ticket. A loss at 170 is much better than a loss from 160 or under. Diaz did say he agreed to 155, he also didn't look like he cut at all to make weight either. Not that I think he wins as I think both Diaz brothers striking is hugely overrated but interesting anyway.
