Re: Ruslan Chagaev (c) vs. Lucas Browne - March 5th 2016
I'd love to see Browne pull this off,he seems like a (in best Aussie accent) a bloody nice bloke,he's not the best technically but he can certainly punch and he seems to have a good chin, plus his stamina has usually been good,he finishes well and he's definitly in shape so he's def in with a shout,i dont think he'll be fazed fighting in Russia,Chagaev still has it at some level but he is fading, although taking a round to KO Pianeta is still quite impressive
I'll be rooting for Lucas for sure and that way we can avoid Chagaev/Oquendo 2,no doubt Ruslan takes in on the cards with 1 close and the other 2 ridiculously wide

I'm surprised it's taken Chagaev this long to get back into world title contention. His last loss was in 2011 and he's been active enough since then but just seems to have wasted time fighting bums rather than jumping straight back in to climb up the rankings.

At this level Brown isn't great but Ruslan is well past is best

Funny listening to Browne and his team continually saying what a FANTASTIC place Grozny is, how beautiful it all is, how kind and humble all the people are ! What a GREAT guy Rusian is !
They must be absolutely bricking it, surrounded by armed goons, with Chechen war lord President Ramzan Kadyrov virtually Chagaev's manager and promoter and keeping a CLOSE eye on proceedings

Arguments about the legitimacy of this particular title aside, in a bit of random trivia, I believe if Browne wins he'll be the first MMA fighter turned boxer to win a major sanctioning body world title.

Chagaev should give Browne a lesson in the subtleties of boxing technique. If he has much left. I'd like Browne to win, but I just can't see it happening.

Yeah Chagaev's too well schooled and even past his best is too good for Browne. Browne's far too slow and technically weak.
They can talk all they like about how Browne's developed in training camp but we hear this all the time. When the bell rings it's the form line that shows - not some glorious reinvention in camp.
Chagaev by wide UD for me.

Funeka gave the Russian hell for the last 3 rounds, but probably too little too late.

Edmund Gerber would be a nice opponent for Dillian Whyte after a comeback fight or two, he's ranked no.10 with the WBO.
