Interesting comments.
Sure he still has some decent fights at Cruiser should he wish to pursue them and no doubt make some good $$ given his popularity in Germany. Guess it depends how long he wanted to stick around for BUT if he wanted another 4-5 years in the sport a move to heavyweight now would be a good option. Try his hand there and chance of picking up a Title i think against the likes of Chagaev, failing that could always move back down and challenge again for a cruiser strap before calling it a day.

Re: Marco Huck - Heavyweight
I agree Povetkin is bigger than Haye - a touch shorter with shorter reach, but definitely the naturally heavier guy. Best way I can say it now is that Povetkin is a small natural heavyweight, while Haye is a blown-up cruiserweight - although now I think he'd struggle to make 200lb too.Ricky_ wrote:jezzamundo wrote:
You're exaggerating - Povetkin is 6'2" tops and looks chubby when fighting in the 220s. I don't think he could make cruiserweight now at 36, but I have no doubt he could have in his 20s. I disagree that he looked much bigger than Huck - they were very similar in height, while Povetkin had the thicker body and more fat.
To answer the original question - given how competitive he was against Povetkin, you've got to give Huck a good chance of doing well at heavyweight, although his style wouldn't do him any favours against the big heavyweights.
Perhaps Povetkin could have made Cruiser when he was younger but he's a bigger guy than David Haye who eventually moved up.
Huck did excellent vs Povetkin, was a while agothough, i think i actually had him winning. It is very clear though that Povetkin was the bonafide heavyweight, simply looked like a weightclass above in both his weight and his punching power. It's also clear that Povetkin has significantly improved since then, and i'd argue Huck has regressed.
He was coming off the back of a KO loss to known territory against a guy he's fought 4 times now. What could he achieve as a Heavy... something better than Adamek or Cunningham? Can't see it, his style is all wrong for bigger men.
I also agree that Povetkin has improved and Huck has regressed and would take Povetkin to win a rematch more convincingly. I think Huck landed the harder punches in their fight, although it's hard to say who is the bigger puncher now.
Finally, I agree that Huck wouldn't have a great deal of success at heavyweight and that his style is all wrong for taking on bigger men. I'd probably still take him over Chagaev, though.
Re: Marco Huck - Heavyweight
Povetkins really about 6'2". I sparred him for the Chaguev fight and he was slightly taller than me and I'm 6'2".bigman1968 wrote:Povetkin is 6'2(according to Boxrec, actually he is smaller) with 75' reach and all his career was ~225. And Wach wasn't brought to Russia to contend, but to be a punching bag. And even so Povetkin didn't look convincing against him.Ricky_ wrote:bigman1968 wrote:
So are Povetkin, Chagaev and Glazkov...and a lot of other guys that should be in cruiser or even light-heavy, but come for HW money, risking their health.
Povetkin is about 6'3 and 230+ lb. He just took apart one of the biggest HWs in Wach. He was clearly much bigger than Huck when they shared a ring.
To go into the Huck/Povetkin bout, both are good friends of mine and I told Hagen Doering (Sauerland matchmaker at he time) it wasn't a good match as Marco is too small and he was their cash cow, but they got him with a new strength and conditioning coach and he did much better than I expected.
I think because of Marcos popularity in Germany he could make some noise. I could see him beating a Cris Arreola type guy to move up the ladder then advance to a Chaguev. Chaguev short but bulky. When I sparred him his asset was big combos but he's older now and is kind've a one punch at a time guy now. Chaguev vs Browne is pick 'em at this point with a slight edge to Browne. I'm pulling for Browne so maybe we'll see Browne vs Huck in the future.
Re: Marco Huck - Heavyweight
I'm saying Chagaev stops Browne inside 8.

Wow, an insult coming from arguably the dumbest person on the board......really cuts deep.Ricky_ wrote:Badhusker wrote: I didn't think he was winning, far from it. Wach is about like Lurch from the Adams family. He was stopped on a cut, correct?
Yes, Floyd did beat Maidana, twice. The first was closer than the second. Quit crying, go to
Yes he was stopped in the last round with a mangled eye after the 1-sided beating he took, which begs the question why you quoted me in the first place. Much like your entire boxrec posting history, it was completely pointless

Re: Marco Huck - Heavyweight
Huck should remain at Cruiser and push to regain his title.
He did well a few years back against Povetkin, but I think it would be a different story now. He'd get hurt against some of the mammoths in the division.

That just shows how fornicating dumb you are. I'm not Brut. I have one screen name and you can pm any mod here to verify it. FYI, there are a lot of folks her that think you are a dumb arse, not just me, and not just brut.Ricky_ wrote:Shutup, brut.Badhusker wrote:Wow, an insult coming from arguably the dumbest person on the board......really cuts deep.Ricky_ wrote:

Ranting like a true Brut.
